   Sushi rice was uninspiring, cakey and did not complement the fish. Seaweed paper was chewy. Fish quality was decent. Relatively high-priced for a very pedestrian meal. There are much better alternatives.

   This was our first time in the restaurant although we ordered delivery many times and have been very happy. This time at the sushi bar we tried the highest level Omakase in celebration of Chef Oyama's birthday month. Chef Oyama was phenomenal and his omakase was much better than many which are much more expensive in other restaurants. We had an extremely pleasant time and every bite was super delicious. The side dishes and amuse bouche were also fantastic. Highly recommend Ryusei. Their take out/delivery orders are delicious as well, but Omakase really spoke for itself. Our best Japanese meal is a while. Maitre d'it Haruki-san and our waiter Kenichi gave outstanding service. We will be back.

   I've been to quite a few sushi houses in New York including very pricey ones like 15 East and Sushi of Gari. They are all good, but what I like about Sushi Ryusei is the low price. The 10 piece Omakasi is $95 and the 15 piece around $140. Every once in a while they offer a nice 20% discount and I would recommend everyone who likes sushi to take up this offer. I can't say whether their sushi is better or worse than say like Sushi Yasuda, BUT you can never ever complain about the prices especially since most sushi houses have increased their Omakase prices across the board. Even without the discounts, the Omakase prices are a bargain so if you're someone who is not too picky about the quality of sushi then Sushi Ryusei is highly recommended.

    My absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Manhattan. Their sushi is perfect. Omakase, tempura, udon, dine in or take out, you can’t make a bad choice here. Friendly and welcoming service.
