Top-notch food with being pretentious. Wish I could eat here every week but we're only here on vacation!

I have a great time when I go to sushi pop, the staff is always courteous, the menu items are awesome, and the specials are always delicious. This past visit could've been better if the waitress had given the correct information when I ask of the prices of the sashimi/nigiri. I was told the lower cost item was the sashimi only to find out the nigiri was actually the lower cost. After being asked and speaking to a manager, the only response I was given was "it probably has something to do with the rice" with no offer to correct the mistake or at least offer a small discount for the inconvenience. Otherwise, it was a great experience as always.

We started with the sashimi/sushi assortment plate and the Mofo roll, both of which were beautifully displayed and luscious in texture and flavor. Having real fresh wasabi root was a definite plus. Our entrees were Korean fried chicken wings, octopus a la plancha, and a duck confit with squid-inked noodles. Quite delicious on all counts and nothing left over. We were pleasantly full, but upon seeing a dessert prepared nearby, we decided on going for it. The table side making of the Peanut butter and jelly sorbet (raspberry) was delightful, getting much attention from other nearby diners. It was a most unusual dessert, more so because of the peanut butter powder and marshmallow foam toppings on the side. The chinese 5-spiced apple fritters and the japanese sweet potato bread pudding were also great hits with my guests. Too bad we were all in town just for a short while, because if I lived here, this restaurant would become a most favorite haunt. I have already told my friends, that if they happen to be anywhere near Oviedo, they must most definitely stop in and eat. Glad I made reservations, even for a Wednesday night, it was busy, and so looking forward to returning again.

My real life (and Yelp!) friend Tim A. told me to go here and so I did. Yep, I made a reservation and fortunately there was a table open. No, I do not want to sit at the sushi bar tonight thanks. Sushi Pop is a different sort of sushi place. Yes, it's sushi, but it's "reimagined" and "deconstructed" so the sort of classic rolls you might expect will be hard to find if that's what you want.

I let my waitress talk me into the special, which was the jaw of a tilefish that was battered and fried. It was... interesting. I'm glad I had it and I enjoyed it, but I don't know that I would have it again. There just didn't seem to be much meat to it though it was tasty.

For mains, I went with the KFC and the Hot Mess Roll. The wings were quite spicy and were served very hot out of the fryer, taking a bit to cool off enough to eat. Quite meaty and very tasty. The Hot Mess was a smoked salmon and avocado roll topped with baked tuna and other fish plus spicy mayo and bacon. Yes, bacon at a sushi restaurant. It was different and enjoyable and I'd say "Yes, you should have this!"

Service from my waitress was great. She was almost too friendly with a strange need to touch my shoulder each time she went by. Not uncomfortable but different.

Beer list has improved since Tim was here. Yes, the usual Kirin Ichiban, but a lot of interesting imports from all over. I love the Hitachino brews, but the Kellerbier went quite well with the fish.

Very interesting decor. As Tim says, it's a loop of anime movies. And somehow, I got very engaged in the story of Mei and Totoro thanks to the captions. It has a happy ending, don't worry.

Was in town for a conference and Sushipop came up with good reviews on Yelp. We loved the look of the place and the food was terrific! We tried to return the next night but they were closed (Monday). We managed to sneak in one last time on Tuesday and brought 8 other conference attendees! Everyone was blown away. Next time in Orlando...I'll make the trip to Sushipop...it's that good!

We really enjoyed the food and drinks. The only complaint was that the waitress was in a little hurry to get us out because the table was reserved for someone else after us. She was polite about it, but she made that known. We wanted to take our time with the meal. The other couple we were with had never been there and really wanted to peruse the menu. I would have had more to drink as well if we hadn't been rushed.

We enjoyed here the most creative and tasteful and well prepared sushi, sashimi, and rolls that we have had anywhere outside of Nobu. We are so spoiled by this that it will make it hard for us to enjoy sushi at our normal sushi place in Jacksonville. The hot cobia preparation was amazing too. We would return for Nigiri such as the yellowtail belly, salmon belly, scallop, and cobia, for the ceviche roll or any of the others we tried, and more, just to keep trying new things. The sake selections are great too! The service by Britney was fun and attentive and she had great recommendations.

Still a good place to dine but something was missing from the first time I went when it first opened. The menu does change which is a treat, but perhaps it was just a night that didn't have some of my preferred dishes. There was also more of an anime flair with the service staff during my previous visit than there was this time around which really gave it an exciting and fun atmosphere.

Christine, our server, was a true gem! Great personality, ambitious to please and she gave great recommendations.

The sake cocktail was interestingly refreshing but not potent enough for my spirited pallet. The good news is that they are expanding with a full liquor bar in the near future. Great place before a UCF event like a concert or game.

A lot to like but one area for improvement. Great food and variety for most diners but, this restaurant lists itself as "gluten free friendly". A diner in our party has celiac disease and so cannot consume any gluten. Waitress was unfamiliar with what was and was not GF. They offer to make the sushi with plain steamed rice but, when made this way it was blah. If they choose to be GF friendly they should have a few simple safe dishes that are GF. GF teriyaki sauce is readily available. Perhaps a beef and a chicken teriyaki for GF diners who don't want raw fish and then work on improving the taste of GF sushi rice. We love Sushi Pop but we would find another restaurant when dining with GF friends and family. A GF menu and GF aware staff would make this a perfect place!

My friend and I went to Sushi Pop on a Wednesday evening...good thing I made the reservation because they were PACKED!! We sat at the sushi bar, and became so caught up in watching them make sushi that we forgot to talk to one another half the time. Everything we tried was delicious...super fresh, and the service was spot on! Definitely a place that we will be making many return trips.

Amazing fish quality. You can tell it's extremely fresh. Our server, Lucy, was very knowledgable and everything she suggested ordering was amazing. My boyfriend and I have tried several sushi places around central Florida and this is one of the BEST. Pricey but I understand why. The quality and quantity is well worth the splurge for a special occasion or romantic date night. The entire meal was a home run.

Staff-always friendly, attentive and helpful making recommendations. Menu is updated frequently with rolls that are unique in either the fish used or how they prepare it. Recommend you make reservations if possible. We've had one bad experience due to not having a reservation and being seated on the bar side. Acoustics are horrible there. Especially when you've got a couple of people at the bar or table next to you who are obnoxious. Their voice can be heard by everyone on that side of the restaurant. Ambiance on the restaurant side is comfortable and can be romantic. Japanese cartoons constantly playing on the TVs and server's sometimes wear themed outfits. Food-amazing. Favorite apps are Hamachi pop, KFC and everything edamame. If you're only getting one, go with the Hamachi pop. Rolls-We always have our go-to rolls: the Ceviche, Red Hots, Royal Treatment, and Hot Mess. Since the the menu changes frequently, we add one or two new rolls to try, replacing one of our faves. Drinks -My favorite is the spiced manga which they've removed from the menu however sometimes can still make it. What they use in their drinks are homemade so if they don't prepare the ingredient for that then I go for the Tokyo mule. I think I've tried every drink there and don't think you can really go wrong. Desserts-hit or miss. Tried everything and our favorite is the homemade ice cream where you get five flavors. I say hit or miss because they're trying new creations which I applaud, but not all of them are good (wasabi ice cream?). The desserts on their regular menu are ok, but don't knock my socks off. Pricing -bit high, especially if you order a few drinks, but with the setting, service and quality I get, I continue to rank this as my favorite sushi place (Shari is #2).
Overall, the sushi is fresh, creative and tastes phenomenal. The service we receive is excellent every time and the ambiance on the restaurant side is trendy, perfect for dates, anniversaries, or evening out with friends.

Overall, I'd call Sushi Pop well done. Their wait staff were super attentive, management present, and service was quick and reliable. Food was unique and special. As for Orlando, this establishment is one of a kind and one that left me wishing that we had one closer to my home. Nevertheless, worth the 30 minutes of driving. Will certainly be back.

We discovered Sushi Pop last winter and were excited for such a neat place. Since then we have "gorged" ourselves there about once a week, when we are home for the winter months.

Sushi Pop chefs' creativity are different from what you experience in a typical sushi bar - see the menu at (http://www.sushipoprestaurant.com/menus); and specials too (often exotic). But, even more importantly to me, traditional nigiri and sashimi are, overall, the freshest I have experienced. Edamame has no competitors.

If you go, I suggest requesting seating in Britney's station. She knows what's happening!!!

Each dish is truly a culinary creation. Whenever I go to Sushi Pop, I am always sure to order whatever is on special tonight, both the sushi and kitchen dishes possess a complexity of flavors unmatched by any restaurants in the area. The service and management match the talent at the sushi bar and in the kitchen. For out-of-towners it's a must taste attraction. For locals like myself, we're fortunate to have such a beautifully orchestrated culinary delight in central Florida.
