Incredible. The chef combines Japanese and Korean cuisine. We went with a Japanese colleague and he said it’s the best money for value in the city. Try the tasting menu and add the supplements. You won’t regret it!
Had a great meal. Went with our young children and the staff was super accommodating as thoughtful.
Friendly services but not professional. Never offered me water the entire night. We had the $70 omakase and the Japanese courses were disappointing. Fish did not look appealing (color), many “chewy” parts (poor quality cuts of fish), fish skin could not be swallowed (we couldn’t bite through), and even a fish scale on one piece. Korean courses were better, many they should just focus on Korean.
Amazing Omakase experience in an intimate newly remodeled soma space. Love the late closing hours. They were great at accommodating our dietary restrictions.
Sushi was fresh tasting and delicious. The service was excellent, though we were there early on Saturday. The portions are on the small side for the cost, so my husband was still a bit hungry. Daughter didn't find much to eat ( as is often the case at Japanese-oriented restaurants), but we didn't order the glass noodles as we thought it was expensive for something she may or may not eat. Simple ramen or udon probably would have worked for her. So I'd say it isn't a great place for the whole family.
delicious fish, excellent sushi chef, very sensitive to allergies and food restrcitions
Lovely dining experience! Did the omakase with sake pairing and it was wonderful. Sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the chef. Thanks for a great time Sushi Ondo team!
What a phenomenal experience! Our party of five, celebrating a birthday, all had the omakase with the supplement. The team had the timing of the courses perfected - we were happily sated with our last bite and still pretty full hours later. We loved both the Korean and Japanese dishes. Most of the pieces of nigiri were probably the best quality I’d had anywhere.
The service was excellent as well - we were 20 minutes late to our reservation but they accommodated us. Each course was presented professionally, water/tea refills were on point!
Also love the layout and ambience! There’s an area in the back to enjoy a few drinks and even have some menu items while you wait for your actual seating.
Nice restaurant. The menu is a little too simple but the food is tasty. The miso soup was lukewarm, but tasty. Once this place gets the details down, it'll be amazing!
Such a wonderful experience. From food to service so impressed. Thank you!
The restaurant has been open for a month or so. The inside has a very home like cozy ambiance and very well decorated. The customer service was amazing and the chef was very friendly as we decided to sit at the chef bar. The food was amazing! My boyfriend did the chef tasting which was very fresh and it was plenty of food for the price. I had the miso soup, hand roll, and otoro. Must try and its perfect for a nice date night. If you like great customer service, excellent fresh food, and a cozy ambiance I recommend this place. This is my new sushi spot.
Awesome experience! Chef Jason prepared awesome food, knowledgeable and friendly. Awesome experience all around.
We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Ondo. We were celebrating my son's birthday, and he wanted to go for sushi, so we decided after doing some research to try Sushi Ondo. We were very pleased that we did. Food was excellent. We sat at the bar and had the Omakase menu, which was fabulous. The sushi was incredible, so fresh, so thoughtful, so beautifully presented. The other dishes, with a Korean flair, were also excellent. All in all, our evening at Sushi Ondo was great!
Very pleasant meal
Superb sushi. The tasting menu was fabulous
Chef Jason was awesome. High quality fish at good value!
Fantastic Omakase with a Korean twist. Highly recommended
Sushi Ondo is a decent place to have a nice dinner for a special occasion. It's not perfect, but most of the things that weren't so great about it can probably be chalked up to the fact that it's still the soft opening period for the restaurant.
While our sushi chef was fantastic in both food preparation and service, the waiters who helped us seemed a little bit lost. There was, overall, no greetings, no eye contact, and they seemed a little clumsy when bringing & taking away dishes to and from our table, often bumping into us because we didn't know they were coming from behind us, or attempting to take away dishes (from the previous course) while we had already started on the next one without much of a heads up, so there was more awkward bumping there. But again, this restaurant is still in its soft opening stage, so I'd say these are all just growing pains of a new restaurant, and really not such a big deal at this point in time.
I do feel like the menu can use some work, however. While the idea of a Korean and Japanese fusion omakase sounds interesting, the contrast between the delicate fish from the sushi, and the more potent flavors of the Korean fried chicken, or Bibimbap, was a little off putting. But more importantly, when the sushi part of the meal is so far elevated in its flavor, the parts that intended to bring forward Korean flavors felt a little lackluster. This is even more so reflected in the price of the tasting menu. While both the $70 base menu and the $102 base+supplement are both good prices for high quality omakase, this imbalance in the tasting menu between the shift of flavors felt a little unsettling at this price point, especially given some pretty tough competition from places like Hinata and Kusakabe, that both have menus at this price range as well. I think if Sushi Ondo were to improve on the synchronizing the two different cultures on their menu, this place would be a huge hit.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. A little pricey when you add in the "supplements", but you absolutely should.
I had the “Jung-sik” Omakase tasting menu. I probably don’t qualify as a full-blown foodie, but I do enjoy a nice high-end meal ... and let me say that the value here was off the charts. It’s truly the best sushi experience I’ve ever had, with some dazzling takes on Korean dishes sprinkled throughout. At the end, I told the host that I’ll be back, and that I fully expect that in two years that same meal will set me back twice as much. If you love sushi, just go.
Chef Jason was fantastic! Omakase is totally worth it. Staff is extremely friendly. It will definitely be a spot we will visit again.
Great value and quality for the Omakase. I would highly recommend the omakase with the add on. Quality and portions were excellent. Unlike any other omakase due to a Korean/Japanese fusion style omakase, would return again!
Food and service were amazingly impeccable. Will definitely be back!
This place is such a little gem!! It's not everyday that you find a gorgeously cute restaurant that offers Edomae style Omakase in SF at a reasonable price. We sat at the bar and opted for their tasting menu (Omakase), each piece of sushi was perfection! In between the sushi courses there were also some delicious and thoughtfully prepared korean dishes. Hubby booked this place based on a yelp suggestion and I must say at first I was skeptical. But OMG did it not exceed all my expectations!! It was such great value as well, it's very rare to get sushi of this quality in the city at Sushi Ondo's price. My favorite was the otoro, that was a melt-in-your-mouth sushi heaven experience. Chef is a SF native but trained in Japan for 15+ years. Cannot wait to go back!
It was our birthday dinner. We liked the food but we thought most servers ran into each other a lot because there's little room between tables.
What an interesting pairing - sushi meets Korea! Loved these flavors and they completed each other so wonderfully. Sake pairing was on point! I am excited to see this place grow and continue its creative thought.
The paring between Japanese Sushi with Korean flare is a great idea. It allows a person to enjoy great fish but doesn’t let them get fish’ed out. From Wagyu dumplings, to marinated pulled beef, it’s the best of both worlds!! I’m going again next month and taking my foodie staff!
