We did the Omakase at the sushi bar. Everything was amazing! Chef Ogawa lovingly creates tasty morsels of the freshest fish and other treats.

The food was ok, there was a good variety of hot and cold food with the $100 omakase menu. I was comparing to comparable price in Seattle

Appetizer - so so
Sashimi - above average, not as fresh as I've had
Soft shell crab tempura - ok
Sushi - a good variety, lots of pieces. Again not as fresh as I might have expected
Miso soup - 1 clam?
Green tea mochi - Ok

I think the quality was comparable to neighborhood sushi places - ok

They went out of their way to make our eleven year anniversary spectacular and memorable. The chef was masterful and charming. The service extraordinary. And the food was so incredible: the sushi melted in my mouth. Absolutely recommend to anyone looking for not just quality food but an experience.

We had heard good things from our native Japanese colleagues, and having lived in Japan for a couple years, we were excited for this meal. The place was empty except for us, which was fine, but given that we were the only people there, the service was excruciatingly slow. Painfully so. We are sushi/sashimi eaters for 20 years, and the fish was, on the whole, chewy and flavorless. We got the omakase, so we didn’t have much say, and it just wasn’t very good. I’m not sure I’ll give them a second chance.

The service was outstanding. But, would not recommend the "chef's choice". Highly recommend ordering off the ala carte menu. We chose to order the "Chef's choice", which was $100 for basically less expensive fish options. Although we had 2 courses of sashimi/sushi, we found that the same type of fish was served to us. We learned our lesson.

Anniversary dinner. It was really nice! Almost too quiet and it is expensive. However, the food was delicious and it’s definitely a great spot for special occasions.

The very best Sushi Omekase in DC. One can never get a seat at the Omekase bar at SUshi Taro , but here you can and it’s half the price of Sushi Taro. It doesn’t have the political baggage of Nakazawa at Trump tower. Focus is on food, not the decor.

This restaurant is marketed as having a creative omakase offering, which I simply found not to be true. Having visited Sushi of Gari in New York (with its creative offerings) and having been to Japan (and experienced great quality fish for a good price point) may have tainted my review. It is an enjoyable restaurant in an intimate setting. However, its good bites that don't, in my opinion, justify the cost.

@6:30, sushi bar was full and we were the first ones to be seated in the dining hall. The restaurant seemed very slow for Friday evening. That being said, service was prompt and food came out without any delay. Overall, food experience was okay, except for a few dishes that my niece and I both thought could be improved. Deep fried soft shell crab was a bit soggy and miso soup was too salty. Botan ebi (shrimp) sushi was subpar as it did not taste fresh at all. On the other hand, we both really liked the fatty tuna and mackerel sashimi and sushi. Desert was nothing fancy, just a couple of mochi ice cream which tasted like they were not made from scratch. Overall dining experience was a mixed bag. While some dishes were outstanding, some were equally disappointing. For me, it was definitely not a Michelin star experience. One might argue that I’d have to try their sushi bar to give a fair rating on sushi. But considering their overall quality of neta (fish), I do not think I would have a different opinion.

We had a really nice experience doing the omakase, fish was very fresh and quite tasty. We came right before closing time so we might have felt a little bit rushed, but overall very nice experience, would go back again.

The food was very delicate and tasty in a simple environment with soft music and attentive service. This restaurant was recommended by a Japanese friend and lived up to expectations. It is a bit pricey (menus at $80 and $100 pp) but worth it. Dishes come out fast so it's very good if you are hungry. They also have an "a la carte" menu if you already know what you want but I feel prix fixe menus are a better deal.

Maybe we had an awful one-off experience, but compared to places like Sushi Taro, this place was a HUGE disappointment - especially for how much we payed. The whole place smelled damp and the furniture looked Chinese - ambiance didn't seem to be a priority. There was a gorgeous Octopus detail on the ceiling, but other than that - nothing much. Finally the old air conditioner seemed to be dying and was very loud.

Something is up- I think most positive reviews for this place from 2016 period.

First course was monkfish liver similar to pâté and then an egg custard - very good. The second course was sashimi then nigiri and I was shocked at the redundancy in the fishes used.

Dessert was store-bought mochi ice cream with hot tea. Which is ridiculous when compared to the high quality desserts that are part of omakazes at other reputable sushi restaurants in DC.

Never going again. Angry that we paid for a baby sitter and over $130 omakaze per person (plus two bottles of sake) on our wedding anniversary night for this awful experience.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in the last 25 years. There were only about 15 items on the entire menu--and they did not have half of the listed items. The prices were insanely high--about double the price of other similar Japanese restaurants--but the food was only average. Saki and wine prices were off the charts expensive, and descriptions on the wine list were useless. The service was slow, and the echoing in the room made it difficult to have an intelligent conversation. I cannot believe that this is the best Japanese dining experience D.C. has to offer. If it is, I feel sorry for the good people of Japan.

By far the top sushi in D.C.! What the restaurant lacks in ambiance and service is more than made up for by the outstanding sushi. Every piece of the broad variety of fish was excellent. Sushi Ogawa is worthy of all the praise it has received. Top notch!

I did not feel that the omakase meal was worth $100, as the first round of sushi and sashimi were quite similar and were not very unique. I don't feel that I would return again.

The best sushi I’ve had in DC hands down (and I’ve had sushi taro etc which I also really love.) Not a fancy place on the inside, very traditional. But great service and AMAZING food. Definitely be adventurous and do the chef’s choice, that’s the only way to go IMO and they will work with allergies/restrictions that you have. They pre-soy sauce the sushi appropriately as they do in Japan so no extra is needed. I’ll remember this sushi always, simply amazing.

By far the best sushi in DC. The omakase at the bar was mind blowing. So so so so so good. For such elevated food, it was actually pretty chill too. Sake was fabulous, service was fabulous.

My friend and I read and understood that I made reservation to table so we can order other than sushi. It turned out Omakase we ordered had included side dishes we didn't know. It was much better than we thought. We could make reservation at counter. You may want to change your write up to what's included that make difference in impression. As we had visited other Ogawa where sushi only Omakase, that's what expected this time. Yes, we recommend to our friends. Arigatou.
