   Food was excellent quality but portions may be too small. Service wasn’t the greatest. For that reason I probably won’t return.

   After learning about Sushi Note in The Infatuation, I thought I found a super sushi joint in LA that I had to try out over Q in downtown. Unfortunately the actual experience was subpar. I RSVP’d a week prior to my birthday and indicated that’s what we were celebrating, and there was no acknowledgment or celebratory gesture from the staff. A simple happy birthday greeting would have sufficed. We did the whole note omakase to start and nearly each piece of nigiri had cold rice, which fell apart instantly in your mouth - not authentic! I judge the quality of nigiri not just on the quality of the fish but also the temperature and the structure of the rice, which needs to be the right temperature and have the right vinegary taste. The fish was good. Service was a little off putting. Our server forgot to bring us our second round of sake for a good 25 minutes (and admitted it too) or until we nearly finished eating our food. Some dishes felt rushed as well since there was always someone peeking into our booth area and constantly surveying our plates. While the lighting and and setup was nice, I was not expecting the noise levels to be what they were. The noise levels were very loud and took away from the dining experience. Not sure if was other diners or a combination of kitchen noises. In the end, I wish I chose a different restaurant to celebrate my special day given the amount of money my party spent. I will not recommend this place to others who are looking to celebrate special occasions and / or want to eat authentic nigiri.
