Visit to LA
Great service and the sushi was bomb!!! We will be back again and again.
Amazing on all fronts!
Very much enjoyed and I'll be back, you can count on it!
Best new sushi in LA
It was the best sushi experience I've ever had. The service was amazing and the food was outstanding.
It was just amazing
Second/tied to Nobu
Food was excellent quality but portions may be too small.
Service wasn’t the greatest. For that reason I probably won’t return.
After learning about Sushi Note in The Infatuation, I thought I found a super sushi joint in LA that I had to try out over Q in downtown. Unfortunately the actual experience was subpar.
I RSVP’d a week prior to my birthday and indicated that’s what we were celebrating, and there was no acknowledgment or celebratory gesture from the staff. A simple happy birthday greeting would have sufficed.
We did the whole note omakase to start and nearly each piece of nigiri had cold rice, which fell apart instantly in your mouth - not authentic! I judge the quality of nigiri not just on the quality of the fish but also the temperature and the structure of the rice, which needs to be the right temperature and have the right vinegary taste. The fish was good.
Service was a little off putting. Our server forgot to bring us our second round of sake for a good 25 minutes (and admitted it too) or until we nearly finished eating our food. Some dishes felt rushed as well since there was always someone peeking into our booth area and constantly surveying our plates.
While the lighting and and setup was nice, I was not expecting the noise levels to be what they were. The noise levels were very loud and took away from the dining experience. Not sure if was other diners or a combination of kitchen noises.
In the end, I wish I chose a different restaurant to celebrate my special day given the amount of money my party spent. I will not recommend this place to others who are looking to celebrate special occasions and / or want to eat authentic nigiri.
We have been going to Seito when he owned 4 on 6 and Sushi Note is no exception! Sushi Note is our go-to date night spot and constantly impressed with the food*, service, and ambiance the restaurant provides. You will not be disappointed!
*I should note that this place does not offer the Americanized rolls with cream cheese or spicy mayo. They offer the freshest fish and it is what truly shines at this sushi spot.
I wanted so bad to like Sushi Note! I have heard so many good things about it. I am quite a foodie though and will say that unfortunately it wasn’t worth it. Yes— the fish is fresh, but ultimately it is overpriced, the portions are small, and I wasn’t blown away. That said, our waitress was lovely! As a foodie, it is a place you come once to try and never return. We left hungry and poor. If someone can please explain to me what the hype is about this place, I would appreciate it because I’m thoroughly confused. There are a PLETHORA of reasonably priced sushi spots in the valley that will leave you full in both the tummy and pocketbook. Think twice before feeding into this trend.
We did the omakase (a good value at $80). Admittedly it was Oscar night, so we may have experienced more personal attention than on a more crowded evening. Chef Saito is affable and conventional in a good way. This is not for someone who is looking to push the sushi envelope with rhubarb-avocado yuzu sauce. Just elegant and superb fish. The music was contemporary but leaning toward jazz, not bad. There are good choices of high end wine and saki. We did not try Kobe beef or other options, but we suspect they, too, would be good. If you are looking for a professional, adult sushi experience, you will not be disappointed.
Best sushi in LA, best experience. Saito is a genius, and the whole place is thoughtful and lovely.
One of the best Japanese (sushi / sashimi) experiences I’ve ever had in Los Angeles. Worthwhile; restaurant is pretty hidden, small and cozy but that’s what makes it so special and original.
Great food and great service. The staff was very accommodating. The food came out promptly and we received great recommendations from the waitress. Overall, wonderful experience.
The best sushi in town
Outstanding in every way - the quality exceeded expectation - which were high!
I thought the food was excellent and the service was terrific. Only negative would be slightly more food in the omakase as I was a bit hungry afterwards.
The fish was excellent quality, reasonable prices and the ambiance was lovely. The service was attentive and warm, it felt special. I thought the omakase was paced slowly but aside from that it was so perfect
This is must must try sushi, especially if you love the rice. One of my top 10 and maybe top five anywhere. Truly melts in your mouth. This was also one of the warmest rooms I've been in in a long while. Funny how nice the vibe is in a place where you're celebrating food and wine. Very highly recommended.
Amazing omakase. Very conducive to conversation.
Saito and his amazing sushi.....what can I say, you sit down and they immediately greet you with a shot glass of a french champagne, and it's so good, you have to buy a glass. You have to make a reservation, because they do sell out. I was there on a Wednesday night, and it felt like a Friday night. Last time I was there I saw Warren Beatty and Annette Benning dining. You can sit at the Sushi Bar, or the wine bar with their amazing selections of wines, and beers. Everyone there has attention to detail. a MUST go to place!
INCREDIBLE SUSHI and equally incredible wine.
We got a wine flight to go with our dinner and was blown away by the options and deliciousness
It is expensive but totally worth it!
We will be back AGAIN!
A really comfortable space with amazing sushi and knowledgable staff. The beverage menu really compliments the food and has so many great selections. The food was amazing!!
Friend from England was in and I wanted him to experience the majesty of Saito’s cooking as well as the amazing wine selections.
What a perfect experience!
lovely meal. great fish and perfect wine pairing. the staff knew their stuff and explained all the wines in a great way.
Top notch...great food and service. Very authentic!
I sat at the wine bar and from the moment we sat down, the staff could not have been nicer or more attentive! Loved the half-note menu and a few other additions, and loved the wine pairing. Will def go back again!!! A great addition to the Valley.
Andrew was an exceptional server!
We had very high expectations as we had read great reviews, but we prefer other sushi places in the area.
Really enjoyable - great food and wine! Spectacular service!
By far the best sushi place in all of LA. The fish is fresh, and doesn’t need to be hidden behind mayo or any other sauce. The wine bar is a really cool touch, and being able to request a drink pairing for your sushi is something that everyone will realize they can’t live without once they try it.
The first time I dined at Sushi Note in August I had the whole-note omakase. This was the second time after at least 15 subsequent visits. The appetizer reminded me of a Venetian fish preparation, the 10 pieces of sushi were ABSOLUTELY impeccable, as I had come to expect, as were the gravlax I missed from the half-note and the Spanish Mackerel I hadn't had for a while that I added on. The handroll was a custom job just for me. The wine pairing for the omakase was absolutely spot on. I'm a fan.
The omakase was fresh and flavorful, the service was incredible, and the sommelier, Andrew, is a major hottie (that also has a great personality).
11/10 would dine here again.
the sushi wasn’t up to par with the wine service.
What a fantastic experience. Food, wine & service are exemplary. A welcome addition to Sherman Oaks. The fish just melts into your mouth. I ordered the 1/2 note but could have easily handled the full note. Impressive wine list.
Lots of potential but not there yet. Omakase was good, not very exploratory and portions are very small. Service was off, no starter served, no edamame. They ran out of rice by the end of the night? Wine bar and service was terrific and suggestions paired well. Concept, ambiance and wine are all there, food and service didn’t match.
Whole Note Omakase was beyond our expectations! All sushi was well prepared and seasoned. Too bad, they ran out of sushi rice at the end. We will definitely come Back to try more sushi and dishes.
Excellent food, service! Chef Saito is just amazing! We love this place and highly recommend it to anyone who loves edomae style sushi.
