Great place.
Fish was extremely fresh. We got the Omakase and everything was delicious.
Excellent food beautifully presented on artistically chosen tableware. Warm welcome from owner Shizu, adorable thoughtful servers. A little cold in winter, specially the metal chairs.
My second time back. I love this not-so-secret jewel tucked under/behind a Korean fried chicken restaurant and really hope it stays in business. They opened just before lockdown and have made it this far based on their stellar sushi and warm service. Fresh fish flown in every day from Japan. The ambiance is relaxing and calm, so you can put your full trust in the chefs.
The garden is set up with heat lamps and a tent in case of inclement weather. It was a fairly warm (50F) night when I went back the second time (late Dec), we didn't need the heat lamps turned up all the way.
One of the best sushi experiences in the city...attentive staff, creative dishes and unique setting make this my new go to!
Beautiful outdoor garden atmosphere.
Staff very attentive and friendly.
Sushi was soooo fresh and tasty!
Only downside that the menu is a bit sparse; no specialty rolls; just a la carte sushi and sashimi.
Also a tad expensive but really good!!
From a longtime sushi lover and japanophile, this place has the freshest of the fresh fish and the friendliest staff. Sushi of gari is the best for innovative sushi but nonaka is hands down better when it comes to traditional style sushi and sashimi and
Above and beyond. More than we expected. It makes all the difference being treaded with kindness during COVID.
Best sushi experience in Manhattan. They aren’t quite ready for outside dining and cold weather so dress warm!
Great hostess - Polina.
Great service.
Great food.
Highly recommend!
A gem of a spot. Such a great place and addition to the neighborhood! Staff and owners are so kind and gracious. The food is always so fresh and impeccably served.
I had one of the most memorable birthday dinners here! The staff generously offered us blankets, turned on the heat lamp and the fire pit. The backyard garden is such a treat to eat in, especially in Manhattan. The service was incredible and the food was amazing. Each piece of sushi was delicious! Don’t skip dessert either, the hoji-cha panna cotta + warm red bean soup with mochi were highlights.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Nonaka! Awesome food and service!!
mediocre omakase, sashimi fish was not that fresh
They have a beautiful outdoor garden with space heaters so despite it being 42 degrees out, it was quite warm. They also provide blankets if needed.
Truly the best sushi I’ve ever eaten in my life. And for years I hadn’t even liked sushi very much — only came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday because it’s his favorite food. Everything about our meal was outstanding. The service, the ambiance, and, of course, the food. Each course was presented beautifully, and each morsel of food was perfect. Seriously: I like sushi now and it’s because of this restaurant.
Given current COVID infection rates, I am not willing to eat indoors at a restaurant (or in one of those sheds that claims to be outdoors but has four walls and a roof and jams the tables in, so who are you kidding with your little plastic dividers?). But the Nonaka courtyard is fully outdoors -- walled on three sides by neighboring buildings but open to the sky and on the fourth side -- and the tables are well spaced. In recent weeks, they also installed heaters, making it comfortable to eat in the courtyard when the temperature was around 50 degrees. So long as the rain and snow holds off, I plan to return! Also, the sushi is very good.
Always a great experience at Sushi Nonaka
A Truly great Gem of a restaurant!
Good time good food good dinner
Can’t wait to go back. A serene garden with delicious food and attentive service.
Delightful.
Food was really excellent. The service was very slow. The servers were extremely nice and very polite but not organized. Possibly they need more servers.
Very impressive food and service, will come again!
Very cozy atmosphere and good sushi
This was our celebration meal for Biden winning the election! The omakase was fabulous and the patio is such a great way to have a safe and peaceful dining experience. Highly recommended!
It was like being back in Japan. The food was excellent as was the service. Definitely would recommend.
Wonderful service and incredible food. We went on Halloween and had a few fun themed Sami cocktails. Will definitely go back.
Absolutely amazing.
Charming outdoor area with fireplaces, along with great sushi. What could be better?
what a find on the UWS! Serene space to have a great meal.
Pretty place and nice staff, and perhaps it as because they were busy, but it took forever to get our reserved table. The food came quickly but I wasn’t impressed. You can find better sushi. This is more so about the ambience. Nice place to go to dinner at for sure. A sweet outdoor setup.
Friendly service and interesting selection of fish for the sushi omakase
Great food and service. I will definitely go back to have the yummy sushi!
Amazing sushi in UWS. Great "secret" outdoor dining spot.
Everything was perfect.
So nice to have a place to eat outdoors where you are in a hidden oasis rather than on the city streets which have sadly gotten so dirty over recent months. We love sushi and omakase-style dining and this was fantastic.
Amazing find! Highly recommend and look forward to going again soon. Best sushi I have had in ages.
Attentive staff and delicious sushi set. Beautiful secluded garden with fire pit features.
Waiter was terrible. Food. Was left. In kitchen. Too long as the hit arrived cold. And sushi was suggy
Amazing sushi, amazing service. Will be back next week.
Properly good Sushi and service. No disgusting chilli Mayonnaise or other nonsense, just wonderful fresh real sushi like you would find in Japan. Nice courtyard and nice atmosphere.
It’s expensive in absolute terms but excellent value set against other places here where omakase can be outrageous. Very good value for money.
