About
Best fish in the triangle and the owner/chef does a wonderful job
Parking is not good here. Zaxby’s zealously guards their spots. Be prepared to park in the garage down the hill and walk.
Such a lovely experience from the staff, chef and sushi. The inventive offerings has raised the bar for Raleigh Sushi. Tuna Truffle roll, garlicky edamame, black sesame ice creme with sweet popcorn - yum! We had a lovely time at the Sushi bar with Chris the owner/head chef.
this was some of the best sushi we have had in Raleigh. the speciality rolls all came with their unique sauce which made the rolls tasty. I am not sure how we haven't found or heard of Sushi Mon sooner. Highly recommend
The food was tasty and we really enjoyed the spicy edamame and stuffed jalepenos. The sushi rolls were very good too. It was the service. They had 2 wait staff and possibly a bartender - on a Sunday night. We arrived at 5:30 and it took just past 7 to check out. We never had a chance to order a 2nd glass of wine and barely got water. I don't blame the staff, just management. We will give it a 2nd chance because I imagine other reviews are more consistent with the experience.
Delicious food and wonderful chef! We have been here three times since its opening. I’m vegan but my husband LOVES the sushi!
Had to send one dish back. They replaced it with a less fishy choice
Awesome meal during restaurant week.
Omakase = A++
I’ve been here twice and it is definitely the most outstanding sushi restaurant in Raleigh. Simple, classic food with amazing flavor.
My girlfriend and I got two different dishes and shared. Both of our meals were great! We will definitely go back again
Sushi Mon was great. They don't do bogo like most sushi restaurants, but their rolls are very specialized, beautifully presented, great options and ingredients, and very filling so you have to order fewer rolls than some other places. The staff went above and beyond, they were wonderful. The only weird thing was that the tuna appetizer we ordered tasted very good, but it had to oddest smell, it smelled like a nail salon! So bizarre haha, not sure what that could have been. But all of the rolls we ordered were delicious. Without drinks our tab was about $50 for two of us. Not too bad for a date.
Best Sushi in the Triangle. Chris is fantastic, he works hard t make your dining experience the best it can be.
Our favorite dish is the sashimi!
Our college aged son was home for the holidays, so we treated him to Sushi Mon. Their menu is more varied than when we last ate there, but quality of fish and thoughtfulness of flavor pairings is still a strong suit. Their house made soy sauce is wonderful. Not cheap but if you enjoy fresh and creative sushi along w the traditional choices, you will find value here.
Excellent food and service. Our waitress was very fun and helpful. But ended up maybe the most expensive meal I've had in years. Probably won't go back for that reason.
We had a lovely time here for NYE! We really enjoyed everything we ordered, but were especially impressed with the Toro, the spicy garlic edamame, and the spicy tuna jalapeno poppers. Also, the miso soup is incredible with fresh cabbage, shirataki mushrooms and salmon. We would definitely come back!
A hidden gem in Raleigh, North Carolina. I booked this restaurant based on the wonderful reviews and recommendations on Thrillist. One of the best sushi restaurants I have ever experienced and I live in Los Angeles, where sushi is a staple. The place is quaint, quiet and the staff is wonderful. We ordered our sushi and allowed the chef to prepare it as he saw best and it was all amazing. The fish is fresh daily, ingredients are complimentary to every piece, mouth watering recipes and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended, a wonderful place!
Service was slow and our waiter wasn’t the best or most attentive but our meals were amazing and the prices were fair
Very good rolls, probably one of the best we ever had!
This was our second time at Sushi Mon and we can’t wait to go again. Everything was excellent, and the food couldn’t be any fresher. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Great food, great service, would definitely go back!
We sat at the bar and the head chef took great care of us. Taught us all about every fish we ordered and was so nice!
We ordered a variety of the special rolls and were pleased with all of them. Best sushi we have eaten in the area. The ingredients tasted quite fresh, the flavors and flavor combinations excellent. The calamari and baby octopus had a nice tang to it. Spicy but not too spicy. Service was great. Loved the atmosphere. Will definitely go back!
Continues to serve the freshest sushi in Raleigh. The Chirashi bowl has fresh fish and amazing flavors, the nigiri is always fresh and served at the perfect temperature with just enough wasabi, and the XO tuna and tuna truffle roll are perfectly rich. They also have great options for kids and treat my child like a king!
Went to try since we live so close by and it had such great reviews. I won’t even go into the parking situation, just opt for the deck nextdoor. My whole family agreed that this is probably sushi for the masses or people that don’t really eat sushi. If you like really good, fresh sushi, which doesn’t need ‘fancy’ rich sauces and embellishments, go elsewhere. If you like your sushi dressed up, overpriced and flown in from all over the world, which seemed to impress and delight our server, then this is your place. We have the freshest seafood off the East Coast and NC, and many restaurants do get their seafood local. I don’t usually do reviews, but the reviews on this restaurant were very misleading for us. We still love Waraji and I recently tried City Market sushi which was excellent.
Sushi Mon is the best and most creative sushi we’ve had in Raleigh. The location is a little odd and there weren’t many people in there at all but the food was wonderful.
Food was delicious, except for the Crispy Juicy Chicken. It was way overcooked and the garlic undercooked. However , they took it off the bill.
Service was slow and inefficient. There were drips from a pipe on one of us.
But the rest of the food was amazing.
The food is the star and the quality is excellent. The execution was good, the rolls very inventive (truffle oil!), sashimi excellent in both presentation and quality; only exception for us was the XO Tuna which was a little overdone. The service was superb, our waiter very informative and attentive. The room is quite open and we were sitting near the door which led to cold blasts upon opening on this cold night. The décor is superb, the moss wall amazing. Overall highly recommended as a novel sushi experience in town.
Sushi Mon was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The atmosphere and service was top notch but many places have a good atmosphere and service. Where Sushi Mon stood out was the food itself. This was not only the best sushi I have ever had but the best food in general. I have come before for lunch and gotten a smaller meal. I asked the owner and main chef, Chris, at lunch when I could come for an omakase (all you can eat, chefs choice). He told me to come on a slower night, so I went on a Monday and he was able to focus completely on my date and I. He had a wonderful mix of hot and cold, sweet and savory small dishes as appetizers, and then an amazing array of nigiri (my favorite) as the main course. The fish is all too grade and as a sushi regular you can really tell. He has a special preparation tactic for each fish that leaves each fish extremely moist and flavorful, never with any fishy flavor at all. I will be back as much as possible, this has been the best food I have had in Raleigh.
Top chef. Excellent service. We sat at the sushi bar and had tons of personal attention from the very experienced chef. Excellent fish. Thoughtful preparation and enthusiastic staff. Far and away better than typical "local" sushi. Much closer to high-end NYC, Atlanta, or Miami sushi. Not too much choice as more challenging sushi such as uni and giant clam, etc. are hard to sell consistently in this area. Rolls are still their biggest seller. Still, what they sell, including terrific bluefin tuna is excellent quality served by a very knowledgable chef.
Overall it was a wonderful experience. The rolls were very fresh and delicious. Great job!
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Incredibly fresh, creative dishes and excellent service.
Delicious food. Salmon on salt block and toro sushi and rainbow roll were highlights.
Sushi Mon was outstanding as usual. (We eat there at least once a month). Chris always serves the freshest, best quality fish. The service was outstanding. Presentation was attractive. The food was delectable. We enjoyed spending the afternoon with you, Sushi Mon. Will see you again soon!
Very creative sushi selections...and all very good. Unfortunately, we have been there twice and in both instances service was very slow...in fact, at lunch we saw two customers walk out because of the wait. Appears to be understaffed because everyone is very pleasant and appear to be trying hard. Highly recommended for creative sushi, etc...but be prepared to wait a bit. Relax and enjoy
Love, Love, Love this restaurant. The Sushi is extraordinary. If you go here, you won't go anywhere else for Sushi. It is absolutely the best in town.
Chris was welcoming and the food was amazing. I will return.
Best sushi/sashimi in raleigh, no question. Service was excellent (equally attentive and casual). Exquisite and creative presentation and nice touches like handles for purses! Will be back!
Sushi mon continues to be my favorite restaurant in the triangle area. The fish is consistently at the highest quality, freshness, and taste. I also enjoy how the menu slightly changing every time we go (about one time per month) so there are new things to try and our old favorites (sashimi plate, ikura, and uni(Friday-Sunday.
