Sushi Mambo Ratings and Reviews
I am from NYC so I did not expect to find such a great Japanese restaurant in Napa. The only reason we went there is because our kids love Asian food but I am so glad we stopped by. Rolls were really delicious and we also were impressed by their Ramen noodles. Broth was very flavorful. If you are craving Japanese food in Napa, this is the place to go!
This was our first visit to Sushi Mambo, and our experience was positive. The sushi was excellent: very fresh and tasty. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old building in a trendy neighborhood. Our waiter was efficient and friendly. A large error was made on our check which, luckily, we caught. It was corrected with apologies. We will return to Sushi Mambo for the very good sushi!
We came here for my husband's birthday with his parents and our 3-month-old (in his stroller). Already we didn't get the sense that having dinner there was appropriate for our "party" so we advise coming here with colleagues, or other adults due to the noise level and clientele that waltzes in at night. If I had come with the girls or my husband for some sushi & sake, then I'd be singing a different tune.
Aside from the somewhat comically-named dishes, every item we ordered was simply amazing! Quite notably was the "Cheese So Beautiful" that my husband still raves about to this day. Their sashimi was gorgeously prepared and fresh beyond my experience. Even their sukiyaki and bento box were delicious.
Highly recommended so hurry and eat!
We have had the same server and Chef almost every time we go. We were greeted promptly, had drinks and appetizers within just a couple minutes of our arrival. Sushi took a bit longer but nothing unusual considering that some of the rolls are cooked and how busy it was for just having 2 workers The chef Eric is great, skillfully made, quality food and fast. Our waiter Ben was knowledgable, funny and very composed especially considering that the place was almost full. We couldn't believe how efeciantly these guys worked. Will defenitely be back soon. Bravo!
Outstanding fish and the most unique rolls we have ever seen - a number of them created at the restautant. The Motherclucker, Leaf Me Alone, and Raw Deal are quite popular. The portion sizes for the price are the best in Napa Valley insofar as sushi establishments. Some good sake and a wine list that is being improved. Sushi Mambo surprises all who dine there.
This is a good spot for a very casual lunch spot with friends. It is not very expensive, there is always a table, its moderately quiet depending on the time you go. The servers are nice. The food is good. The place is small. It is right in the downtown area. There is nothing very outstanding about any of it.
I was totally impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the amazing offers on the menu. It was a little on the pricier side, but seemed typical for Napa and Bay Area sushi joints in general. Their lunch specials are mostly under $18 and offer plenty of food. I had the bento box, which was under $15 and a great amount of food - delicious. They have an extensive offering for rolls, and many vegetarian options. I also recommend the "Fungus Amungus" (on the specialty roll menu).
Would definitely go again, an especially fun place for a date!
I've going to Sushi Mambo for the last 15 years and have always looked forward to the atmosphere as well as the food. The last 2 times I've been there I just feel that the service has really just been mediocre, as well as the food. This is a total surprise to me because in my opinion Sushi Mambo's food is quality and fresh. I definietly do not want to say anything negative in regards to the location because it's a Napa Neighborhood place that makes you feel good inside. It's like the sitcom "Cheers" & I feel like "Norm", but i will be honest that I will be now venturing out to other Sushi astablishments. Sorry Sushi Mambo, but if I'm going to pay a $100 I want to walk out fat & happy!
Always offers excellent food, especially its rolls, which are without peer in Napa. The restaurant, while not being new or chic, has the best sushi prices in Napa. So when you are concentrating on food, this is your place for sushi. The sake list is not bad, either, and while the wine list cold be more expansive, you can BYOB for a fair charge.
I've been going to Sushi Mambo for over 10yrs. & I'm a huge fan, but unfortunately after my experience recently I might be looking soemwhere else. The food as always is quality, but it seems every time I go in there they have new servers, etc. The best service we got was the bus boy (who I tipped soley for his hard work). I have a hard time saying anything negative towards a place I look forward to going to, but after this experience I'll be searching elsewhere.
We've found a new favorite for sushi! Everything on the menu was delicious! there wasn't a roll that we didn't love. And we are picky when it comes to anything fish, especially Sushi and Sashimi. Fresh fish, excellent preparation, and very nice people.
We'll be back soon.
I have been going to Sushi Mambo since Jose bought it from Fuji eons ago. He has always had ultra fresh, unique as well as traditional sushi and sashimi. The only ding has always been service. It really slows down at peak times. It has, however been better since he has his brother AND another chef to ease the bottlejams. Go before or after the peak times for the best experience. The phoenix roll is a unique sauced and broiled roll with three types of fish. Mt Fuji is a monster of deliciousness. SabaDabaDoo is a excercise in mackerel freshness. Yum. Here's something funny. Jose learned english from a Japanese guy at his sushi cheff job at the miyako (sp) hotel in San Francisco. Maybe that's why he has a wicked sense of humor!!!
We were very disappointed on this visit. The Miso soup was luke warm and the gyoza was barely hot as well. I had to ask for the rice that came with my dish and we constantly hadto ask the waitress twice for numerous things - more water, pepper, etc. Not sure that we will go back for quite a while
sushi quality, creativity, taste was excellent. seafood is noticably fresh, very enjoyable place to dine. beware, however of the service. although server was very sweet, there was no sense of urgency, and a slight lack of professionalism which one would expect to accompany level of food.i do recommend this place, however dont expect to be too timely with your order, apps, departure.
While visiting Napa with my wife we were weighing the options for a Sushi dinner but did not feel like spending an arm and a leg. After reading all of the reviews on Open Table, we decided to give Sushi Mambo a try. It did not disappoint. Quite the contrary, it was an excellent experience. The Sushi was fresh and the variety of special rolls was more than adequate. The Udon noodle soup was outstanding and satisfying. I would certainly recommend Sushi Mambo to any one looking for a quaint, affordable and friendly dinning option in Napa.
We dined for sushi and we thought the sushi was okay but nothing to speak of. The experience was nice but nothing over the top. Nothing went wrong the server was a bit slow. We also did not have a view of anything. Better to pick something on the river front napa.
Sushi Mambo is a long-time Napa favorite. It is locally owned and operated and has a very devoted following among locals and out-of-towners. It is a gem in the heart of Napa's Downtown and I don't go anywhere else for sushi.
There was a bento box special on the dinner menu that was excellent.
