Sushi Kappo Tamura
Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.
*Please note that a 20% living wage charge is included (dine in only). The house retains 100% of these charges to help fund higher wages and benefits to all staff. Additional gratuity is not expected.
best in town period I travel alot and trust me the best Matt and Steve and entire team so welcoming. its like sitting at your home having dinner with friends. lost alot of that with growth on Lake Union. lived on lake union for over 30 years now and this is the last place left that understands and welcomes locals weekly l have had some hard times lately and was so glad I went back this!! its an experience
Service and food were excellent. We had some rowdy nephews along and you were very gracious in helping to keep the piece. We enjoy the atmosphere and care taken with all aspects of our dining. Thank you!
Just outstanding! Thank you for sitting us at the sushi bar... an amazing experience.
The best sushi I’ve had anywhere. They only serve fish that is sustainable fisheries. There are also wonderful hot dishes for those who prefer them. The ambiance and service are amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Let the waiter choose the menu. Superb. Really one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had. I’m also fussy. Well done. 👏🏻👏🏻
Sushi Kappo Tamura has great sushi and a nice ambiance. Service is good and at a reasonable pace. However, I am always surprised at how high the bill is - quality doesn't come cheaply.
Every single thing I put in my mouth was delicious. The (raw) scallops were so good I kept ordering more. The waitstaff was kind and knowledgeable and made great recommendations.
Very good fresh fish. O-Toro and Buri belly was great. A lot of the fish they serve is imported from Japan.
Tried the sushi combo. Sushi was not made properly, without properly squeezing the rice ball and fish together. Some rice pieces were falling out. Price at premium but food quality was below par. Raw oysters were quite good though
Awesome sushi in s great environment
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The omakase at the sushi bar is the way to go. The chefs skill, presentation, and descriptions were perfect. So delicious! High recommendations for this restaurant.
Excellent food and great service
I was recommended to go to sushi Kappo Tamura by a few friends and it did not disappoint. Was my boyfriends first time having omakase at the counter.
Service was flawless and the server/bar manager had great knowledge in sake. Eugene was our chef making our sushi and his nigiri was very delicious.
This place has exceeded my expectations and we will be back again.
We had an incredible experience for our anniversary. We sat at the counter and enjoyed chit chatting with the chefs about the two most important things in life: family and food! There was a Wonderful selection of Ippins (cooked starters) on the menu so we created our own tasting menu of select items to share. The chawanmushi is fabulous as was the rare delicacy of geoduck. The sashimi combo as our finishing course was superb in quality: smooth and almost buttery. We finished with a toast of sparkling sake, an incredibly silky smooth elixir with lovely fine bubbles. Thanks for the memorable night!
The very best sushi in Seattle, possibly the best on the West coast.
Lovely restaurant with excellent food. Loved the Salad!!!
Delicious sushis! Good service and nice atmosphere.
Tremendous food, some great rarities, topline service, fair prices. Loved it!!!
Absolutely wonderful experience. The food was delectable and well prepared with great attention to detail. The atmosphere was welcoming, sophisticated and approachable. A great date night.
Always a great experience. Highly recommend.
Sushi Kappo Tamura has quickly become my wife and I's favorite sushi restaurant in Seattle.
Great experience for my wife on her birthday with front row seats at the sushi bar with Taichi.
Another masterful omakase from taichi kitamura. If he’s there, Sit at the bar. Eat each piece as soon as he places it. Don’t dip in soy. Enjoy.
We eat here weekly. Always fresh, always delicious - wonderful service.
Amazing sushi, calm ambiance... tons of non-sushi options on the menu that we didn’t try this time, but would be an easy place to go with folks who are interested in Japanese food with less raw fish. Highly recommend sitting at the bar—chefs are friendly and will chat with you about the sushi you’re getting as they plate it.
New favorite sushi in Seattle!
Overall, would not recommend this restaurant. High prices for very small portions...which were nothing special. They also add a automatic 20% gratuity regardless of service and we were a party of 2 which received very poor service. By poor service, on 3 occasions during our meal we had to get the hostess to get our waitress....which would be understandable if busy...but there was only 1 other table occupied in the entire restaurant.
Great food, free dessert for my friend's birthday, nice quiet ambience, spacious. Highly recommend.
Chef Matt prepared an excellent Omakase and the service was impressive. Delicious and many sustainable fish options
As always Matt provides exceptional service, passion, and knowledge at the counter. An experience not to be missed!
We went to visit based on it being the only Seattle location on the Opentable national top50 list. We elected for the Omakase tasting menu with a bottle of sake to split for the 4 of us. The server was very knowledgable and made a great Sake recommendation. We really enjoyed the tasting menu, both the hot and cold/sushi courses. Dessert was also tasty. Our only disappointment was being surprised at the end of the 20% service charge. From what we had read prior to going, the charge was included in the cost of the food/beverages without additional gratuity which justified the high prices in our mind. Instead we were hit with a pretty substantial gratuity fee that we didn't expect. Even when a card came out with the bill explaining the 20% automatic gratuity it wasn't clear that this would be added on. So, my review in short is solid service, great waitress, delicious food, well designed location, but over-priced.
This place gave me the best sushi I have ever had and that is saying a lot. I cannot wait to come back to Seattle to eat here again. Thanks Matt for attending to my culinary needs. What really makes this place is the ingredients they have to work with. I have only in Japan and New York seen this kind of quality and variety on a sushi menu. And some of them very sustainable i might add. Thanks Again Sushi Kappo Tamura You rock.
Waiter knowledgeable and shares the passion for sushi.
This is my favorite restaurant. Period. Food great. Service great. Everyone friendly. My daughter picks this as her special place to go when she is home from school on break. Love!!
Eugene (and Matt) offer a fantastic experience at the sushi bar... educational, entertaining, and engaging. All the best that Seattle Sushi culture has to offer, along with amazing food, sake, and deserts. As always, well done guys!
This was a great meal. The service was extremely attentive without being unctuous. The fish was delicious and the sushi chefs were very friendly. Albacore and Sockeye Salmon Belly Nigiri and the Gari Saba Roll were standouts, but it was all very good. The one item that I was mixed about was the Negihama Roll. The texture was different than I’m used to probably due to the addition of avocado. It was still good, just different. Having been to Shiro’s, Sushi Kashiba, Nishino many times and Momiji recently, I would go back to Sushi Kappo Tamura first and highly recommend it.
We were very impressed. Great attention to detail, great presentation, great service. We had the five-course dinner and the overall effect was the most similar to an authentic kaiseki dinner (served in a Japanese ryokan) we have had anywhere outside of Japan, in terms of variety and quality. The sushi quality is as good as you can get in the Pacific Northwest, which is to say, the best you can get anywhere.
Not a cheap meal but the cost of an amazing experience. The ingredients are phenomenal, with some locally sourced and sustainability strongly considered, while other items require sourcing directly from Japan. Our first time as out of towners at Sushi Kappo Tamura but not our last. We had the 7 course 'makase' (chief's creation) and it was about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour dining experience. Well done, keep up the small details that make it the experience it is.
Amazing food and service. Delicious sustainably caught fish. Become a regular at this restaurant!
