We serve 2 sets of omakase courses, 13 courses, and 17 courses. We feature seasonal fish daily, often accommodating the individual preferences, such as kosher-style & gluten-free. However, there are no vegetarian, vegan alternatives.
We are open from Wednesday to Sunday and offer 2 seatings, 6 PM, and 8 PM.
Waitress doesn’t respect rules comes real close to me all the time and puts her hands on my plate
Asked many times to keep her space to no avail
Restaurant does a great job of separating customers but this waitress is dangerous
Phenomenal omakase, our favourite in the city. The quality of the fish, sake and service are amazing.
We have eaten at Sushi Kaito regularly since the day it opened (except during the COVID hiatus when it was closed for a while). It continues to have excellent food and great service. The outdoor area is vey nice, although I can't wait to feel comfortable getting back at the bar indoors to sit and watch the exceptional chefs prepare the sushi.
Exquisite sushi in a lovely, intimate setting with proper COVID separation. Couldn't be happier.
Omakase was a fun and delicious experience. We did premium which I feel was the way to go. The meal lasted about an hour and a half (perhaps a bit more). The pacing between the different plates went really well. We never felt rushed. An enjoyable meal. Highly recommended!
Every bite was good ! But not spectacular ! Nothing was WOW effect! When you take Omakase at $135 you expect a bit more creativity
Every bite has to be an emotion ! And it was only very good ! Fresh quality fish and a friendly sushi chef
Great omakase with the freshest of seafood. The staff there was attentive and explained each course perfectly.
This is one of our favorite restaurants, and we always make sure to stop by when we are in town. The sushi are always sublime, and it is fun to see the actions of the chefs.
omakase was an amazing experience. informative, beautifully crafted, fresh and so eloquently executed. i would visit again for the premium 18 course next time.
Pristine Seafood of outstanding quality served omakase style in a tiny space with a counter accommodating nine people served by two chefs and a sous-chef.
Was less impressed by the rice used for the sushi courses. It was nearly tasteless and felt even a bit stale at times.
Service was attentive but the chef looking after my side of the counter could have been more communicative and talked a little more about the items he was serving. With the mask on it was almost impossible to hear him to begin with.
Nice wine, beer and especially sake list.
The premium omakase ($135 before tax and tip) is a bit expensive for what you get.
All included, a good place to have in the neighborhood but a step below Gari and Nakazawa.
Amazing experience, incredible food and great staff. Can't wait to go back!
As always, Sushi Kaito was an exciting food journey. We utilized their outdoor seating and it was very nice, although the bug zapper set up near the tables was a little disturbing. But the neighborhood is fine and we were largely I disturbed. The staff did everything they could to make their outdoor dining experience top-notch.
I couldn’t help but be a touch disappointed by chef Yoshi. Sushi Kaito was always a gem when it came to top-notch omakase, but this new chef incorporated surprisingly strong spices that we felt were a little out of place. Some of the dishes had chili flakes and peppers, which we didn’t like as we are very sensitive to spicy food. I don’t want to say the food was bad- it was amazing- but spicy sushi is not really what we expected or wanted. I miss the clean, intense tastes that the previous chef brought to Sushi Kaito.
That being said, it was still a fantastic experience and I’ll always recommend sushi Kaito. But be warned, chef Yoshi’s experience is much different than the previous Sushi Kaito.
Wonderful carefully prepared food, and excellent service. High recommendation!
Food was excellent, staff was friendly and ambiance was great.
This place had one of the best Omakase experiences in the city for their price range. Unfortunately, things have changed for the worse.
First, the sushi quality was average, and the originality was simply not there. Pretty much every piece that was prepared for us had a citrusy note with some lemon or Yuzu added to it. As you can imagine, things quickly got predictable and boring.
Second, the two menu options they had were only different in the number of pieces that were served. Two people with different choices could enjoy the exact same experience, with only one of the two getting a few more pieces towards the end before meeting back at the desert piece. Yesterday, we were served two completely different menus, making for a completely disjointed experience during which we didn't feel like we were sharing much.
Finally, we were seated at the far end of the counter, near the cashier. In front us, were 4 people busy preparing about 20 plates at the time for the new outdoor tables. Our master was a bit to our right, and had to overreach to serve us. This is very different from what it used to be. Before, everyone was perfectly seated to watch one of only two masters standing behind the counter hand-make every single piece before it was served directly to them.
It's a real pity because this was one of my favorite spots for good sushi as I lived 4 doors down from it. I hope management realizes the new formula is not big downgrade.
Great sushi but prices went up exponentially. Used to include tip in the price. Now prices are higher AND tip isn't included. Used to be great value. Now not so much.
The quality and balance of flavors and textures of the authentic omakase experience was fantastic. Each course was beautiful and from the subtle smoky infusions to the bright clean freshness, each bite left us wanting more.
A great piece of Tokyo on the UWS. It definitely reminded us of our time in Japan.
We will be back!
Excellent value! Neighborhood gem
Great food and service! We sat outside and the ambience was so romantic and cozy. Will come again!
Congratulations to Sushi Kaito for maintaining consistent very high quality and freshness throughout the delivery phase of the pandemic, with terrific and efficient service. Now with a new chef the in -restaurant is re-asserting itself. This is far and away the best sushi/omakase on the west side. I had the 18 course omakase, which had an ample and delicious variety of beautifully orchestrated and presented sushi . It is a good value and Sushi Kaito has a wonderful selection of reasonably priced sake.
Amazing - the service is great and the chefs are amazing. They tell you what every single piece is and are wiling to answer any questions. I've been here 5 times now and it never disappoints!
I would recommend just going with 1 other person if you want the traditional counter omakase style.
It's the overall experience that stays with you. The sushi is very good of course but it's the service and presentation that are outstanding
Excellent omakase!! Definitely one of the best in nyc!
the food was amazing. the variety and quality of sushi was impressive. wait staff was super friendly and accommodative. can't wait to go back!
It’s a gem! It’s a real treat. A seriously devoted staff, you feel like on a private tour in Japan. Absolutely delicious!
We love Yochai at Sushi Kaito is wonderful! Highly recommend it!
Everything was wonderful. Food and beverages were delicious, friendly and knowledgeable service. I had marked on open table that it was for a birthday, and without asking they brought out a lit candle with his dessert; so thoughtful. Fantastic all around, a wonderful birthday dinner.
A surprisingly interesting omikase. Truly delicious. Probably the best sushi in town.
It was very good! The chef is not the same, that’s why now they changed the name for Yoshi Kaito hence the menu also changed, including the price
Wonderful experience, great fish and very amiable chef Yoshi
Food and service were both lovely! We left very satisfied with the meal. The restaurant has a new chef and he was fantastic. The restaurant has divides between parties so it felt a little more private and the ambience was nice. Definitely make a reservation.
As always our dinner omakase experience at Sushi Kaito was superb. The food was extremely fresh and our Sushi chef guessed right on what we liked. I love eating at the counter to watch the Chef do his magic and it is a better experience when you are doing omakase.
Absolutely loved it. Will come again. Had omakase and 10 out of 10.
Omakase is excellent, will definitely recommed to my friends and family~!!
Favorite omakase in NYC. Excellent quality fish, nice selection of sakes, kind service and appropriate pricing.
Having lived in Japan for eight years we have had a lot of sushi and would include our meal in our top 5 sushi experiences. Delicious perfectly prepared and served. We will be coming back - thanks for a wonderful meal.
Great food - outdoors in nice setting because of Covid
Always great quality sushi and service with delicious combinations of flavors
We enjoyed a course dinner at Sushi counter. Great quality food bad service. Highly recommends!!
