Had dinner at Sushi Ichimura tonight. The omakase was exceptional and the chef was warm and professional — no complaints about the food. But the experience ended on a very disappointing note. After the meal, we were suddenly told Apple Pay wasn’t accepted due to a “system issue.” Without our consent, staff had already refunded our original payment and demanded we pay the full amount again. This was a prepaid meal — we only added one bottle of sake — and yet we were asked to reauthorize over $1,200. The manager then implied that past Apple Pay disputes were the reason, which felt like an accusation. As a restaurant owner myself, I found the whole situation poorly handled and deeply disrespectful. Rules were changed after the fact, and it was treated as a trust issue — not a tech issue. The chef remained gracious and apologetic throughout, and it’s clear he doesn’t deserve to be stuck in this kind of management. Diners spending this much should be treated with clarity and respect — not suspicion.

Absolutely exquisite in every detail, as one would expect from a master sushi chef. Delectable fish, innovative and classic presentation, perfect wine pairings, attentive service, and a friendly presence in charge of it all.

Wonderful food, amazing chef, BUT our server mocked us with blatant SARCASM and an EXAGGERATED EYE ROLL, making sure we felt her disdain. Her rudeness was not just uncalled for—it was completely unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant like this. Full story: Since we had already prepaid for the bill and gratuity when making our reservation, and that we only ordered two additional hand rolls during the meal, when settling the bill, we added an extra gratuity of about 25% of the additional amount. However, a female server then approached us, questioning our tip amount. Even after we showed her our digital receipt, she insisted that the system indicated no prepaid gratuity. Thinking we might have made a mistake, we adjusted the tip to approximately 25% of the entire bill and apologized when she came to collect the receipt. At this point, she responded A LOT in an exaggeratedly sarcastic tone, saying something along the lines of, “Oh, of course, no problem at all,” and before leaving, she rolled her eyes at us—so blatantly that she didn’t even bother turning her back completely, as if she wanted us to see. That attitude spoke volumes. After leaving the restaurant, we double-checked the receipt and realized that we had already paid the gratuity. We called the server back and explained the situation, and she eventually admitted it was her mistake. Though she insisted her obvious eye-rolling and sarcasm were “unintentional,” this undeniably ruined our experience. This was absolutely not the level of service we expected, nor the kind of treatment a restaurant of this caliber should tolerate. Even if we had made a mistake with the tip, did that justify such overt ridicule? More importantly, we had done everything right from the start—it was her mistake. This was the worst birthday dinner experience I’ve ever had. Very, very disappointing.
