Chef Li was fantastic, highly recommended sushi restaurant
It’s all right for a birthday dinner here.... overall the restaurant is Small, crowed, noisy, with those entitled people blocking the entrance and refuse to move. Took them 5-10 minutes for the host to greet us... totally took half an hour to get ready for my table. In the mean time I was sitting on a waiting table along with some dirty dishes and bottles around.
Sushi Bar- DO NOT have the Japanese ambience that you are looking for, not worth to sit there and I don’t want to describe what it looks like there. There’s much better places out there. If you don’t trust me you can check it out yourself.
Just for the first impression, already got you thinking not to comes back. Specially for my future birthday, “felt special “.
But don’t get me wrong food was great, beautiful on point. The waitress was professional. With their complementary green tea cheese cake (birthday only).
BUT the bottom line is that I come to the restaurant to spend money for the food, experience and the ambience, but I do except much more if I am spending $300+. I will rather spend $500+ for the best experience, ambience and food elsewhere honestly.
I would give 3.8 out of 5!
great service, nice ambiance, sushi was delicious!
I really enjoyed this place. The vibe is completely unique: think great 90's hip-hop/r&b, chic minimalist interior, and prime sushi straight from Japan. Many upscale sushi spots are elegant, traditional, and minimalist - but this place has an utterly cool vibe unlike any other I've experienced. My partner and I did the Omakase, and it was wonderful. Great fish, great attention to detail. The sake pairing was perfect too. The service is unparalleled. Certainly in the top-5 sushi restaurants in the city. The neighborhood it's in is a little scrappy, but honestly it just ends up adding to the appeal. Just don't get too gussied up or you'll look out of place. This is the Gucci track suit of sushi spots, so throw on your most expensive RTW.
Fantastic time, excellent 1
We had a great time, and enjoyed our experience. We sat at the corner of the sushi counter as requested ahead of time. Looking forward to our next visit. Thanks!
Best value omakase sushi in San Francisco. They fly their fish in fresh from Toyosu market (formerly Tsukiji) in Tokyo!
Skip omakase. Get the toro, waygu and you will have the best.
Great place for sushi. More of a traditional omakase
Felt for the amount we paid it was just ok. Been to better in SanFran area. After the first course, they ask you if the soy and wasabi levels are ok (as you can adjust). I asked for more wasabi and never received it on any of the other courses. It was only when the folks next to us asked for more wasabi that I realized I should have received some extra, but at that point, we were almost done with our meal. I said something again to the wait staff and they finally brought it out (although late).
Husband and I sat at bar and had the omakase. Amazing food. The fish was tender and cured. The red vinegar rice complemented the fish perfectly.
The service was impeccable. As soon as I was done with a dish the wait staff removed the dish to prepare for the next round. Everyone was attentive. The chef was friendly, proper and wonderful.
Ambiance was relaxing-dimmed lights. Would definitely come again!
This was the best sushi I have ever had. Amazing quality and some unique fish. I highly recommend it!
Sushi hon never disappoints. This was my 2nd time dining here and they really understand the value of making your experience unique and unforgettable. The work crew signed my girl friend and I a card for our anniversary which was a great personal touch. And of course the food was incredible. I will be back soon :)
we loved everything about the place on quite Monday night. The Omikase meal was beautiful and exquisite tasting of prepared bites. Service was always on top of everything as needed
The sushi is excellent, but the service really stuck out on this visit. It seemed like 5 or 6 different people were waiting on us and they never missed a beat.
Sushi sourcing could have been better
We had a great time at Sushi Hon, the Chef was a lot of fun and the omakase sushi selection was delish
Sushi Hon is one of the best sushi places in SF, IMHO. Quality of fish - outstanding. Unique flavor pairings (black truffle and waygu; caviar on top of select fishes; these are seasonal pairings)Everything comes already dressed with sauces and wasabi, so no need to dunk your fish (unless you really want to in which case they will not stop you or frown at you. Excellent service.
Convivial atmosphere with communal tables and sushi bar seating. Did not partake of sake but all looked great.
More expensive, but worth it.
no sushi place is worth customer money when there is no chef personally preparing the sushi for their guests. Great ambiance too bad for not having enough chefs to prepare freshly the sushi at this price.
Delicious sushi. Attentive staff.
Considering that I've had omakase at another restaurant before, this was a little disappointing. The price was less than the other one, but I did not feel satisfied with the exclusive omakase. Some fish served were very good, but I wish there was more to it than just the fish. The dishes could use some more creative plating.
Excellent but expensive
Excellent quality. Exquisite preparation .highly recommend
Sat at the sushi bar; very good sushi similar to the other high end omakase in SF.
Pricey for the quality....only 1 piece in the omakase set actually was memorable. for that price every single piece should melt in your mouth and leave you wanting more.
The service was exceptional. Our sushi chef (I don’t remember his name) was great! He was very friendly. The nigiri was absolutely amazing!
Amazing service and food. Would definitely return!
A+ omakase experience.
Outstanding find in The Mission for Omakase. Really appreciated the experience with Chef Lee
Outstanding. Very high quality sushi, with presentation and service to match!
Had a wonderful omakase dinner with my partner here. The chefs were impeccable, food surpassed our expectations. Service left a little to be desired, our waitress took over 10 minutes to ask us for drinks/bring water and was not very attentive.
Sushi rice didn't taste like sushi rice. Not enough vinegar to make the rice sticky and right texture. Fish was ok. Presentation was excellent and service was top notch. Wish the food quality matched it's price
Lovely place. Delicious and authentic and expensive!
We sat at the counter and had the omakase selection with sake/wine tasting. The sushi is outstanding -- sushi rice is the best I've had, with a wonderful selection of fish, expertly prepared, and some unique preparations. Crowd was a bit lively/noisy on a Saturday night, but we were tucked into a corner that was a bit quieter than the rest of the room. The wine and sake pairings were thoughtfully chosen and worked well with each choice, and the pacing of the courses was just right. I'd recommend Sushi Hon to anyone who wants a traditional omakase experience that is friendly and unintimidating. As with any quality sushi, be prepared to spend a bit more than average - it is definitely worth it.
The only thing detracting from the service was the call 5 minutes after my reservation while I was in my car circling, looking for parking.... the place didn’t fill and usually other restaurants aren’t this aggressive.
The quality of the fish was amazing for the value of the Omakase. Highly recommend counter seating; it basically gives you a one-on-one experience with one of the sushi chefs who gives you a detailed description of where all of the fish is from and answers any questions kindly.
This is hands down my favorite date spot. Sit at the sushi bar for omakase!
My partner and I enjoyed the food here, although all the items were a bit pricey. Expect to pay $6-8 per 1 piece of sushi. You can probably get more value if you go for the omakase menu.
