Sushi Damo - Rockville
Of course, most come to Sushi Damo for the great food. Some of the tasty appetizers on the main menu include the marinated chicken on skewers, tempura, mango crab towers and the fried oysters. Choose from various types of noodles, as well as entrées that feature chicken, beef, pork, seafood or vegetarian options. Sushi Damo has plenty of sushi options, as well including classic rolls, such as the tuna avocado roll and the California roll.
Arrived for 7 pm reservation to a not too busy inside seating. Waited 5 minutes and ordered drinks. 10 minutes later my wife’s drink arrived (wrong drink) but not my beer. Another 5 minutes pass and my wife’s correct drink arrives. Still no beer. Beer arrives and we ordered food. 30 minutes later we’re told the sushi orders are taking a while. 8:10 still no food and we request a “to go” order. Server changes order. 8:20 we again told here we have to leave, server checks and says are sushi order is next in line!!!!
Not sure that would be 5 or 15 minutes more. We can’t wait. I paid for our drinks and left. Worst dining experience we’ve ever had. What’s worse than bad food?? No food
1 hour and 20 minutes and still no food. Will not be going back.
The server was extremely knowledgeable & attentive. The food was very good although not a tremendous value.
The sushi rolls are creative. My husband is vegan and there are plenty of options for him. Ample outdoor seating.
OUR REGULAR SUSHI STOP. ALWAYS RELIABLE AND MY KIDS LOVE THE PHILADELPHIA ROLL.
2nd visit. Enjoyed the service and sushi was top notch. Took a friend here for his first visit and he couldn't stop talking about the freshness of the sushi. We will be back.
More than one hour to get our order!
The food here is consistently excellent. We remarked that “we don’t eat here enough,” and we plan to return soon.
An excellent restaurant in every way. The food is creative and delicious from appetizers to dessert. You can clearly see the pride this award winning chef puts into his work whether it is his sushi or other delectable dishes. The bar staff are both friendly and excellent as well. The restaurant is beautifully and tastefully decorated. There were couples and families equally enjoying this restaurant. The portions were large and the prices were excellent. Can not recommend this restaurant enough, really the jewel of the Town Center!!!!
Great service. Wish I could recall our server’s name. Great sushi Very fresh and authentic.
I was very disappointed. We came for lunch on a Monday. The place was empty, but the service was still very slow. And the sushi was just about the worst I’ve had. I’m not that picky with sushi—I love it—but this tastes noticeably not fresh, and the fish didn’t have a ton of flavor. Also, the music was this crappy techno, and it was loud. Odd choice for a sushi joint in Rockville. I’d avoid.
Good not great dishes. service very good by our server.
The sushi was delicious - some of the best we've ever had. We will definitely be back here.
My husband liked the sushi, but the rest of the meal was disappointing. My husband ordered sushi and sashimi, we shared some tempura, and I got an Nabe Yaki Udon. My husband liked his sushi and sashimi, but the tempura was far from delicate (heavily coated in batter) and the udon was basically boring. Yes, the noodles themselves were good (nice texture) but the rest of the soup was boring with big, rather flavorless, chunks of chicken. The environment is very pleasant, a bit hip (which is a positive in Rockville, where not much qualifies as hip), and the service is pleasant. The wine was good enough. Still, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you need to be able to walk to dinner.
Always the best sushi in the area. Creative rolls either he freshest fish, very mellow and modern vibe, excellent service.
Great location, service and food. We went early in the day so there weren’t many patrons. I’d recommend for any occasion. The sushi was amazing!!
We had a great time!
Always tasty. Tried the spicy mussel soup. Very tasty. Had edamame, tempura vegetables & shrimp, make your own California roll, scallop & shrimp entree. Service was good. Sushi Damo has a special feel. Very convenient in downtown Rockville. Extended parking for 3 hours which is great.
Service was very slow because of valentines. Waited half hour for server and then another 30 for food . We ordered sushi .. no cocking required
food was decent, slightly over priced. but service was terrible. took over an hour for food to come out. just a few sushi rolls and a simple salad appetizer.
Everything was perfect!
Excellent service and food! Love the speciality rolls
Perfect place to celebrate my husband’s birthday. He loves sushi and throughly enjoyed his meal. We brought our 7 month baby and the staff could not have been kinder to help ensure we had all that was needed for her.
The food was great! The waiter was very helpful and attentive.
Hands-down the best sushi in Montgomery county and possibly metro DC area.
We always have a lovely experience when dining here and our children (age 9 and 11) also love it.
Nice ambiance. The sushi was excellent. Great value. Skip the miso soup.
We enjoyed a birthday with friends at Sushi Damo. Food and service were very good.
Christmas dinner was a disaster. It was dirty. And slow. Not even sure I was served the correct sushi that I ordered. Our server was pleasant but overwhelmed. If ur going to be open on a holiday, then be open for business as usual. Very bad experience. Not a restaurant I would recommend or go back to. We ran into friends the next night who walked out bc they were not being served. Below is the picture of the table with dirty dishes that sat next to us all throughout our dinner.
Service has gotten really bad over the past few years - very slow and lots of errors. Prices are high given this...
We never got served. After waiting an hour, and being promised someone would be with us in 2 minutes multiple times, we eventually left. This was the worst service I’d ever experienced. A waitress seemingly in our area ignored us trying to flag her down. After we had waited an hour and no one came to help us even after we tried reaching out to them, we gave up and walked out.
We visited them for dinner after our daughter’s activity because of a location (and we love sushi). To be honest, I didn’t have a high expectation but food was unexpectedly good. As a Japanese, I’m very picky about sushi but I will definitely visit there again. As other reviewers said, it’s a little understaffed and their service was slow...but we made it before our parking validation expired.
Had udon and husband had sushi box. Food was good but not great. Service was excellent. Ambiance was relaxing and nice.
We have been Sushi Damo several times and it is always a wonderful dinner and restaurant. The quality of the fish is very high, which is what you want from a sushi restaurant. The sushi & sashimi are served cold (not room temperature), another good sign. Many creative and unique rolls. Good selection of sake too, reasonably priced and higher end in 300 ml and 700 ml bottles. This last time, we went with our 6 & 8 year old children who liked the restaurant, the cushy oversized chairs, and . . .the seaweed salad of all things.
Great sushi! Was actually pretty dead on Wednesday night though I have been here on the weekend and it was a mad house.
Our favorite sushi place in the DC Metro Area - worth the drive. Very fresh fish, creative rolls, good atmosphere.
This was a "different" choice for my late mother's day brunch but perfect for us because we lived in Japan. The sushi is excellent, and we are very picky. I enjoyed the non-traditional rolls and the saki flight.
tasty and fresh sushi. Nice area and excellent service.
The sushi is always delicious and a great combination of flavors. I love the outdoor seating but it'd be better if there was less smoking-- not a good way to enjoy sushi. The prices are also a little crazy for the area, but overall a delicious meal!
The sushi at Sushi Damo is good but not great. You will not find better sushi in a small market like Rockville but there is nothing at Sushi Damo that will prevent real sushi lovers from traveling to a larger market like D.C. or Baltimore for better options. Don't think that getting slightly above average food means paying moderate prices either. With tip I spent $91 on a dinner for two (no alcohol, generous tip, two desserts). This would not give me pause in D.C. or Baltimore but it seemed a bit much for the Maryland suburbs. The locals in Rockville have the money to spend though, so I suppose the prices are understandable. The space is also nice and probably draws a high rental rate, which the owners of the restaurant have to recoup.
A modern styled Japanese restaurant, both tables, booth bench seating as well as lounge comfee chair seating. The house drinks where tastey and mixed well, the sushi tasted fresh and stood out from the frozen junk you see in super markets. Seating was fast, and the waiter was quick to take care of us and have a good conversation. the non-sushi food was fantastic, the calamari was flavorful, not too greasy and was actual tentacles instead of just wedge cuts from a larger organism. Even the soy sauce provided seemed to have a more refined flavor. Refined meaning they spent time on it, not factory made junk. The noise and layout of the restaurant was great, not too loud, not awkwardly quiet. Food & experience was worth the money.
