I went there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and both of us had to hold back the tears after each bite. It was that good.

The food was good , a bit pricey and the service was a little slow. The beer and Saki selection was interesting, but not to my liking, they do not have Nigori Saki.

Truly an amazing omakase experience with delicious sushi but can get a bit pricy as you continue to order with reckless abandon. The barracuda is truly top notch

It's always disappointing not to sit at the sushi counter when you are out for an omakase meal -- but in this case I had made a reservation hours before so I'm to blame (they tried!).

A very good omakase meal including the opening appetizers -- their sake list is a bit exploitative with the lowest priced bottle coming in at $100. It was good but a choice of $100 or $140 is not enough. The sake by the glass was ok. Beverage program needs some serious rethinking which is too bad as they are on mark with the fish & rice!

This is my first review but probably about my 7th or 8th time at Sushi Daizen. It's truly a "neighborhood gem". It's located in this little sliver of a space that you could easily miss - so when you walk through the door, it gives almost the vibe of a speakeasy because it's so under the radar. Despite how delicious it is - and despite the fact that every time I've gone, the sushi bar has been full - it's been very easy to make sushi bar reservations. The fish is super fresh, flavorful and no frills. This is not the type of place you come to get a spicy tuna roll or one of those funky tempura rolls. They serve quality fish in the most simple/clean way that allows the focus to remain on the flavors of the fish. Perfect fish to rice ratio. Minimalist chic ambiance. We visit "just because" when we are craving quality omakase AND we go for special occasions. Very affordable for the high quality sushi they serve. It is one of my top few favorites in NYC along the ranks of Sushi Nakazawa and Sushi Yasuda.

I live in Long Island City, I am so happy that I found this place.
Omakase was great! Every pieces of sushi was melting in my mouth. I love Japanese cuisine and I tried many good or nice Japanese restaurants all over the world and Sushi Daizen is one of the best! And my favorite!!

While Sushi Daizen was very good, I can't go as far as saying it was extraordinary or even particularly outstanding. We have eaten at some of the top omakase sushi places in the city and so have a basis for comparison. The $90 omakase at Daizen got us 5 pieces of sashimi and 7 pieces of sushi, most of which were fish commonly available in regular sushi restaurants. Only one, the marinaded tuna, was prepared in an "advanced" way; the rest were just normal preparations. Admittedly we were told that several of the fish were flown in from Hokkaido. A shame, then, that their preparations were not particularly unusual.

The restaurant has no cooked food items and we had one diner who generally prefers the cooked items, so we were stunned not to have any choice for him. Fortunately, though, he did like the sushi he ended up having.

Sadly, the restaurant was almost empty except for us and one other table.

One of the best sushi spots in NYC. Amazingly, they serve me a fish I've never tried almost every time I visit and I've been eating sushi in the US and Japan for decades. Would highly recommend the Sushi Omakase. Chef and staff are great!

Excellent Omakase in LIC, and quite frankly the best Omakase I've had in all of Brooklyn and Queens, plus at $75 the value is incredible. It's nice to have something so close to Williamsburg that offers legitimately delicious sushi. The rice temperature was fantastic, the fish portions were spot on, and the sake and beer list are well curated. The only downside here is that there is not a large selection of fish a la Yasuda, 15 East, Ushiwakamaru, etc. However, what they do have is fantastic, and they do a really good job with all the silver fishes (mackerels, sardines, etc). Go now while it's still under the radar, well priced, and easy to get into.

Very authentic sushi/Japanese. Quiet, peaceful ambiance. Very limited menu. Choice of omakase or sushi/sashimi a la carte. Don't expect to leave full for less than $100/person.

The space is very small. We sat at the sushi bar and was not able to get good pictures of ourselves with our sushi. There's no interaction with the chefs, other than uttering to us what the next piece of sushi was. The sea urchin was not fresh at all. Was fishy and cold since I saw that the chef just took it out of the fridge. But the fatty tuna and the blue fin tuna did not disappoint. Overall, the omakase was not bad for the price.

The type of high end sushi restaurant you'd find in Manhattan but reincarnated as a neighborhood joint in LIC. Omakaze was very good and had a few pieces that I'd never tried before (including Baracuda). Service is what you'd expect for a restaurant at this price point. The ambiance is a little less than perfect but still enjoyable. Only thing I don't like is that the menu looks like it's really only good for omakaze and don't really offer any other options besides a la carte pieces. I would go back for a special occasion.

Some of the best Sushi and Sashimi I've ever had in New York City. Served omakase style or chef's choice, but one can also order a la carte. The sea urchin was absolutely outstanding. Service was impeccable. A perfect meal. Highly Recommend.

Tasty "Omakase" sushi for price (I guess it's reasonable). I wish drinks (Sake, Craft beer) less expensive though...

This is the only sushi place to consider in Long Island City. Rare offering's from the Tokyo fish market make it on the menu often and disappear just as fast. This is real sushi from very highly regarded sushi chefs WHO ARE JAPANESE and seem to get Michelin stars where ever they go.

Every time I come there is different offerings. Both seasonal and exotic. Fire-Jack squid, Barracuda, as well as other fish I have never seen anywhere else. If you are a foodie this is the place you will come to and just know a Michelin star is their future. (and it will forever be impossible to get a reservation from that point on)

Just about the best sushi I've ever had, including some nice spots in Tokyo. Suggest getting the Sushi Omakase. The Sushi and Sashimi version was excellent too but for the sashimi portion you have to apply soy and wasabi yourself, whereas the chef does it for the sushi pieces, achieving better balance in flavor than a customer could expect to.

We will definitely be returning next excuse we get.

Opened back in March 2016.

Pro: 1. One of the better sushi restaurants in Long Island City area. 2. Good fish quality.

Con: 1. The sushi rice on our first two ~ three pieces are more than WARM. 2. Traditional and text book kind of Omakase (Good but boring), toward the end of sushi serving, I asked the chef if he had any fish that is "Special" but is not part of Omakase service, feel free to make for us. However, I think the chef did not understand my request. 3. Staff need some more training (when we asked for check, no one asked if we would like to have tea or not. May be the restaurant did not serve tea).

300 dollar for 2. Is my expectation too high?

We tried the Omakase here and unlike other famous Omakase restaurants they only serve common fishes like Salmon, Scallop, Hamachi, Tuna etc that I could order from any other Japanese restaurant. So even though we sat at the bar, the chef didn't have to explain anything to us- they also use alot of soy sauce on top of their sushi, which hides the taste of the fish. The restaurant was almost empty and the server chose to sit us between two couples that were talking/ shouting across and above us which made the overall experience unpleasant. Overall, $90 for the Omakase is a steal compared to other restaurants in this city, but the price is under $100 probably because they only use common inexpensive fish.

This place is a real gem. I lived in Japan for two years and typically don't bother with sushi in NY. it's hard to find really good sushi and a lot of places are just kind of tolerable. This place is serious-the sushi is prepared perfectly in terms of temperature, the rice is perfect, the fish is perfectly cut, and there's just the right amount of sauce and/or wasabi on everything. Also there's a good range of types of sushi available. The service is excellent, much more like you would experience in Tokyo than, typically in New York. The servers never ask you if you are doing ok, but they are always there if you need anything, as if they can read your mind. They're also quite friendly and happy to explain anything on the menu. Also the sake menu is excellent and even the less-expensive brands are very high quality, smooth sake.
