My waiter was nothing short of amazing however the sushi chef didn’t pay attention. He asked if there was anything I don’t eat and I specifically said salmon. He gave a salmon sashimi and salmon hand roll. Disappointed.
The food was delicious. The service was great. The chef was friendly and knowledgeable and dedicated to his craft.
The location is very small so make sure you make a reservation. Bar seats are still great and more intimate since the only tables available are on the larger side.
lovely chefs, willing to make coversations
Came here on a Wednesday for the BOGO omakase. Food was fine, nothing too special for me. My friend was not full. I noticed the lights there were very dusty and it was on top of where we were eating.. there was also a mosquito flying around during the time we were there.
Went for the bogo offer, our sushi chef me tioned that the place ran out of sweet shirmp. we were fine with it until I found out that the sushi chef serving the group to my left 3 parties of 2 were served sweet shrimp. Either the restaurant should serve everybody or tell all parties that its 86. Also, the rice was kind of hard in addition my sushi chef put too much wasabi in my sushi pieces. I told him to limit the wasabi portion.
I've been to multiple Sushi by Bou locations many times. I was pretty excited to go to the newest location in Brooklyn- but the whole experience was not to par with what I'm used to. Some of the sushi pieces didn't seem fresh and poorly made.
The worst moment was when the Omakase was over. I've always ordered extra fish and pieces at the other locations where it was 30-minute Omakases. The hostess came up behind us and asked if we were ordering more. Me and my friend said, yes. The hostess then said, "Uhm, you can't. You have to leave now so I can seat the next reservation." Not sure what's going on at this location, but it's not what I normally expect from a Sushi by Bou location.
I came here for the BOGO deal and it was definitely worth the money. While I'm not someone who craves sushi, I would consider going back even without the BOGO deal because the quality of the food and service was great!
Highly disappointed in my Bou experience, especially being at sushi lab that was owned by Bou. The 65$ omakase is very boring, there was maybe only one or two pieces out of the 12 piece omakase that stood out, not once did I have a wow moment. I believe the omakase experience is all about the interaction with the chef. I never got my chefs name but he didn't even say hi or bye. Other then whispering the names of some of the pieces I didn't hear another word. The service from the wait staff was definitely great and that's why I gave it two stars instead of one. The pieces were so thin that some ripped while the chef molded them on the rice, I added some pics so people can see. Overall I don't think I would ever go here again as I've had phenomenal experiences else where. This place seems like a fast food chain that wants to bring in as many customers as possible with minimal standards.
This restaurant is just what our neighborhood needed. Subpar quality food-wise & service as well. Lana was a phenomenal hostess. This has been my 3rd time at this particular place yet first time meeting her. She is beyond accommodating and sweet... Lana and Chef Kenny are superstars. A+ will come again as much as possible
Great service very good food. Host John O’connor Was great both sushi chefs were excellent
Omakase for that price alone is worth going for. Music is a little loud... drinks were delicious and the host and sushi maker were amazing
Chef Ken, Chef Casey and John our waiter were very attentive! Had an amazing time. Food was so delish! Will definitely come again! Thank you for such an wonderful night with my husband!
The sushi was ok , but what ruined the experience was the service. The hostess was rude and unpleasant. Didn’t explain anything about omakase or the meal. The entire experience felt rushed. The bill was expensive but I wouldn’t feel so bad about it if I enjoyed the experience. Towards the end the rude hostess comes up and says “ I don’t mean to be rude but you need to get up so I can seat other people. Didn’t offer us anymore drinks or dessert or even politely ask us to perhaps move towards the bar. I honestly felt unvalued as a customer. Working on hospitality the restaurants service culture really makes the entire experience and front of the house staff should be welcoming and hospitable and not nasty and rude. I won’t return
A+ great omakase
A+ great omakase
Great omakase experience! Chefs were attentive and provided me with substitute pieces when they noticed I passed pieces to my boyfriend to eat.
My husband and I loved every minute of our dining experience at Sushi by Bou. Chef Kenny was incredible & made our night even better. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood where there aren’t any omakase restaurants to be found. We on coming back many times
Low quality food and bad drinks
The experience was good and interesting, but the cost is too expensive. I can get a much better meal at Peter Luger for about the same price and have leftovers and a much better overall experience. As such, we have no desire to do a repeat.
Enjoyed most the pieces besides the shrimp, felt a little slimmy.
Been to all of sushi by bou's location. Love this place.
Love everything about it
It was just okay. Was excited to try but a few of the sushi pieces didn’t seem fresh unfortunately.
I love this sushi small chain for its freshness of fish, the professional etiquette and the exclusive vibe of the small private space.
Most of these elements were absent at this new location.
First of all, it was not a small space but a full size bar that was connected via open doorway to a huge restaurant.
It was so hot in the space that i started sweating as soon as i walked in. The Chef’s were obviously sweating while handling raw fish, which is not ok.
The fish was the wrong temperature it was warm.
The pieces were over saturated with sauce. This was the most upsetting part. The reason I frequent Bou in the city, is due to the freshness of the fish where i can taste every natural
Flavor with sauces being used to accentuate not drown the fish.
The hostess was unfamiliar with the sake menu. When our $95 was served it was not put in a chiller. So it went warm quick.
The service was ok...the young lady who was the hostess was very sweet and the chef was as well. Just she seemed overwhelmed and he was very hot so I have no complaints there except maybe there should be a host specific to Bou. Who knows the menu and is able to attend to the clientele of this particular restaurant.
It's not just delicious food but it's an experience for the whole family I recommend it to anyone that enjoys quality food best place by far.
Feels like 30min lunch, more than a dinner. If one is spending $$$ for a dinner- dont deprive that person of time to enjoy it. The point of the dinner is not to swallow the food and go home. As for the Host/Manager, dont offer a complimentary drink without an intention of serving it (apparently it happened to my friend the night before, as well)
Spots are reserved for 45 minutes for sushi bar only. The host will rush you in and out. The time slotted is barely enough to get thru omakase course and maybe get an extra roll before they rush you out the door. The prices are outrageous and rival the most expensive omakase places in manhattan for small pieces which are not nearly as good! Moreover, there is no explanation of the omakase pricing or how the restaurant operates. Basically have a seat, eat as fast as you can and out the door you go because there is a crowd of people seating at the booths behind your back!
We came in for our “timed entry” at 5:45 pm and had to wait until 6:15 to get seated.
Than we were rushed. Chef kept looking at his watch and asking us if we need anything else before we have to leave. Maybe we don’t understand the concept of “times entry” but to have a quick bite at the counter where you are squished like sardines and pay $190 for this experience in 30 min is not what I expected.
Second, our bill for 2 people was $190! That's for 2 people Omakase, 1 drink ($17) and 3 extra pieces.
Third- we left HUNGRY.
Forth- Atmosphere is nothing. You seat at the cramped counter like on the train and It's only half the counter- the other half is for the Bar which is empty.
Fifth- there is NO WAY to call to confirm or cancel reservations. They simply do not pick up the phone. We could have called to find out they are running 30 min late for or reservations instead of waiting.
I don't think it's a good value for the money when there is freshest POKE bowl place and hand roll bar around the corner.
Would not go again
