I HIGHLY recommend this Sushi By Bao at 237 7th Ave in NYC! It’s like a Speak Easy type of atmosphere. From the moment you walk in you’re treated like royalty. Every is making sure your experience is memorable. The chief and food was AMAZING and service and drinks were perfect in every. They treated us like regulars and even gave us sake shots on the house! This is not just a fantastic meal but an experience!

Exceeded my expectations! Caught up with a colleague and it was great that it wasn’t noisy. Each piece of the omakasa was delicious and had a unique flavor profile. We opted for the hour long experience to have more time. We were able to sit at the cocktail tables before and after for a drink and later dessert to round out the omakasa. Would definitely return again.

I always gravitate towards sushi by bou for a recommendation for Omakase but this was my first time at the Chelsea location and IMAX and his team made it the most special experience for my bestie’s birthday! Everything was perfect! They fielded dj requests! We met the nicest folks at the tasting bar and every piece of our bougie tasting was perfect! Still dreaming about that sea bass! Can’t wait to check out their new Philly locations !!! ♥️♥️

would love to give five stars. food, ambience, drink, service really awesome. unfortunately, the ‘timed’ service concept is one and done . went with longest offered, full hour but it just doenst work for such exceptional food and service. one really wants to savor these. the chefs are so incredibly awesome, the servers, bartenders as well. But, one needs more time with such quality. also, cost super reasonable. hope this explains the overall of just three stars. can’t recommend and quite sorry+apologize to the team-for doing so

Started out a bit rocky with a system malfunction and no communication between the host outside and the host inside - we were told we didn’t actually have a reservation. Quickly fixed and we sat down within 20 min, but not ideal. Service at the sushi bar itself was stellar and our sushi chef knew what he was doing and was great at his job, but we thought the pieces were small and would have liked more pieces of fresh fish without being charred. Lighting was bright and not incredibly romantic of a spot for date night. Won’t be coming back but a fine experience overall. I think other omakase is a better time!

Our sushi chef Alex was the highlight of dinner. He was personable and insightful but not overly intrusive. He provided the perfect meal in an intimate environment. We did the 'bougie' 17 piece 1 hour omakase for $100 instead of the regular $60 30min set which was such a great deal in NYC considering the experience and the quality of the seafood! Each piece had its own flavor and it took us on an ocean adventure. Overall the food and service was exceptional, we'll definitely be back.

We went there for a celebratory dinner, and absolutely everyone there was remarkably attentive, kind, generous and welcoming. Much and many thanks to Imax and his wonderful team! The atmosphere was quiet urban chill, and the hidden speakeasy vibe was enhanced by the subtle, uplit decor. Add to that remarkably delicious sushi, beautifully presented and it made for a magical night. The one and only criticism I would have had to do with a fellow patron and not the restaurant itself: at the end of our omakazi experience, while sitting at a small table enjoying a final glass of (delicious) sake, the guy with his date next to us seemed to think that taking his shoes off and putting his bare feet up in the chair next to me was somehow ok to do. Didn’t know what to say to that. Maybe the extra side-eye clued him in, as he left after a few minutes, but still. WTF with some people? Again though, the overall experience (Barefoot Brah aside) was totally magical and I would highly recommend it.

The service and cuisine is always enjoyable! I love the attention to detail around timing and experience. They do a really good job and keeping on a rhythm as they have turn over the table to greet the next 8 customers at the chef's table. The fish is super fresh and well prepared. I highly recommend the fatty tuna and the "Big Mac." If you enjoy Omakase and don't have a lot of time to eat, this is the perfect combination. If you like to hang out and take your time, you might consider another option. The bartenders are ALL very good making craft cocktails.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. We had the 12-piece omakase. The sushi was very fresh and tasty. Waitstaff and chefs were friendly and helpful, and not overbearing. It has a cute, slightly kitschy decor, which went well with the speakeasy theme. No problem getting an early evening rsv a day earlier. I would go back again.

It was strange experience. The food was really great, but service… nobody explained properly what will be (12), our chef did not ask about my allergies.. and when I told him, he started to laugh and joke about it, wich is totally strange and make me feel uncomfortable. He also complained that we came late (10:15 pm, reservation) and if we are not there he could go home. After 1 hour of service and dining.. our chef was more interested to talk with other guests that even don’t find time to say “goodbye”. Food good. But it’s not the service that you expect in empty restaurant in the evening for 120$ for 1 person
