Vancouver’s First Edomae Sushi Omakase Counter
Sushi Bar Maumi is the first in Vancouver to offer Edomae-style omakase. Sushi is simple, but true craftsmanship sets it apart. Each piece is prepared with care and served directly from the counter.

Essence of Edomae Sushi
Edomae means more than freshness. We age, marinate, and season each ingredient to bring out umami and balance with the rice.

Intimate Dining Experience
With only 17 seats and one seating per night, we provide a calm, focused atmosphere. After the omakase, guests may order extra pieces to finish their meal.

Craftsmanship & Ingredients
Chef Maumi Ozaki has 33 years of experience. We use premium ingredients like Shizuoka wasabi and Tsukiji nori to deliver rich flavor and texture.

Japanese Sake & Whiskey
Enjoy rare sake, whiskey, and shochu from Japan, carefully paired with your meal in a peaceful setting.

Restaurant is very private so can't see from outside. Because customer are only adult (no kids), it was very quiet environment. Sushi was very delicious and sushi chef was very professional manner. All recration was beautiful. However, because of only 1 sushi chef and there were 17 customer, it took long time to serve each sushi. I was a bit tired to wait to be served each sushi. I think it is better 2 or 3 chef to serve if there are 17 customers. In addition, hope to have more large portion for rice. Other than that, over all was very good!

If you are looking for real Edomae(traditional Tokyo style) nigiri sushi, you don’t want to miss this place! How Maumi(owner/chef) prepared fish are incredible. From cut to cured, every kind of fish in different preparation. No wonder you need at least 10 years learning experience to get a basic sushi skills in Japan! There are so many sushi in North America, but this place is one of the best, travel worthy restaurants! Additionally, selection of hand picked premium sake are fantastic! Definitely going back!

I've known Maumi for close to 30 years now, he has maintained excellent standards in everything he does. The food was spectacular this time, the service was always top-notch, and explanations of the food were on point. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a wonderful omakase experience.
