About the Menu -
Like Japan, Peru has a millennia-old history. They are two great, ancient civilizations with two major culinary traditions. These traditions complemented one another, and neither of the two sides absorbed the other to the point where one disappeared. SusherÍa menu is the result of this great union and the experience/vision of Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld and his dedicated culinary team lead by Peruvian Executive Chef Javier Angeles-Beron.
About the experience -
Susheria is a unique casual-glam restaurant concept where you will enjoy Izakaya, a Japanese style of service. The Japanese version of tapas, dishes will be served when ready. Izayaka is a perfect moment to enjoy life, laughter and great conversations while sharing food and drinks.
I arrived on time and they did not honor my reservation. I was told I had to wait over 20 minutes to get my table. No apologies or explanations. Awful experience
Very cool concept and menu. I love Peruvian and Sushi! I did find the food a little bland for my taste and had to add sriracha, but for most people it's probably perfect.
I do think the price for the serving size/quality is slightly high, but this is probably due to location. For DC area, it's probably reasonable.
I wished my Criollo had some spicy broth to pour over it. I love Criollo soup and that would have made it perfect!
The service was excellent! The atmosphere is great. I'll go back.
I love this place! Been twice now and the drinks are great, food is exciting, and service is lovely.
Horrible food, works not go back. Rolls seem like they were pre-made. Worst sushi I’ve ever had.
Great experience! Dolly was great!
We had an allergy at table and your staff handled it great.
Very special dishes, though you have to pay for them. The noise level was a bit club-like, which would normally be a fine vibe if we didn't take our grandparents there. Great spot for a delicious date.
Servers were very attentive and it was a nice dinner! They were a bit quick to get us out and get our food out but I enjoyed it—not so much my friend but I didn’t mind! It was very yummy. The roll with the steak on it was absolutely amazing.
The service was amazing and the food was great!
Wonderful fusion of Japanese and Peruvian. Great Peruvian ceviche, interesting maki rolls. Service was a bit slow but very friendly and helpful with new items (to us) on the menu.
I was really excited to go after reading the reviews, this is my favorite type of food but was disappointed. Didn’t think it was anything special.
The service was great and we were seated right away. The food was mostly fine, though one of my friends did not eat his ceviche because it was too sour and he actually found a hair in it. The rest of our party's food was fine, but pretty small portions for the price. We went for brunch and they did not have drink specials, so we did pay full price (about $8 for a beer). Overall I'd say it was fine, but don't think I'd make the trip back out to Georgetown for it.
We had the best time at Susheria! The food was delicious and it provided a fun upbeat environment! Highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant, server was excellent and accommodating to our needs and food was dynamite. Definitely recommend and will be returning!
Yum! Just Yum!!!
Susheria was a delicious restaurant with excellent service. We enjoyed our experience, and were honored with a birthday surprise! Definitely recommend the Bonzai maki, it was very special.
The food and ambiance are terrific, but I was disappointed in the service. After we had our food, we were forgotten until we flagged down a waitress for coffee and then had to flag her down again for the check.
We came for an early dinner, so it was very quiet at first, but got more busy through the dinner.
The service was excellent! The music was also good, and gave a bar ambiance...
The food was delicious and full of spices.
Although it’s a bit expensive the overall experience was worth it!
Nice place with great ambiance. Great combination of Asian and Peruvian food. The sushi was fresh. A great place to have dinner before going to the movies next door. I especially liked the Peruvian shredded chicken dish. Nice flavor. The hostess and server were both friendly and customer focused.
Appetizers are very good. Sushi quality is no more than those $4 per roll.
Nice place. A bit on the pricier side but overall very good
Great food and cocktails! Service was good but slow. Took a long time for both drinks and then food to come out. A bit expensive but certainly worth the money.
Very poor service (took them 45 minutes to take our order), mistakes in orders, unfriendly/unprofessional staff tainted the ok food. I hope this place does ok. Seems like an interesting concept. The noise level was crazy loud. Restaurant is intensely smoky. They try to cover it up by blowing heavy duty fans in your face.
Double charged all of our cards.
Overall, disappointment
Late reservation so not sure if the chef/cooks were tired...it was just ok.
The food was interesting but when it arrived it was pretty lackluster. Very expensive for how bland the food tasted. The drinks were also incredibly overpriced.
Location is a bit tricky, the restaurant is located under the Whitehurst Freeway bridge. Service was excellent and prompt. Food was decent and very creative, though too Americanized. For example, the seared tuna was basted in a very sweet sauce and served with deep-fried noodles. It was a creative combination and presentation, but I could have done without the sweet sauce. Overall, the restaurant is decent and certainly worth a try if you want to try something different. If you are looking for more authentic sushi/Japanese food, then you would want to avoid this place.
OT is the best and the service is always outstanding. Favorite restaurant!
I was very disappointed with the food, the rolls we got were overpriced for the value. The drinks were great.
The food is so delicious and fresh and there is always excellent service!
Awful service. Less than average food. Tried one of the seasonal rolls that had “mahi tempura” in it- I wouldn’t feed this to my dog, so nasty.
Great location but the service needs to be worked on. 12 minutes after sitting in the bar area is to actually get a menu... is unacceptable! Drinks are great and so if food selection but inconsistent. Vibe is nice but I think they should enforce a bit the dress code. Flip flops and beach shorts should be a NO!
Fantastic food. Really high quality fresh raw seafood
Great location, just one block from water and one block from shopping. Comfortable chairs. Corner spot with lots of windows allows for some people watching. Decor was nice. Service great. Ordered a variation of rolls not on the menu and they accommodated without an issue. Delicious food with Japanese and Peruvian flare. Only downside was a little pricey but very comparable to the local places. Highly recommend.
Only giving this place a 3 based on their cocktails and ambience however the food was average and it was overly expensive. Sushi rock in Arlington is about half the price and the food is 1000 times better.
Fantastic food and great to try adventurous Peruvisushi combinations!
food was good; service was inconsistent. waiters would come by and take your order and then another would come by and ask if we had any questions. They could use some more wait staff.
We went to Susheria for lunch. The server was very hospitable, and checked on us a few times during our lunch. We ordered the Spicy Tuna, California, and the Salmon Maki Rolls. The Maki Rolls come in quantities of 8 each. We also got the Miso Soup and a Rice Bowl (Aji de Guillina? We don’t remember the name exactly. We remember it consisted of potatoes and chicken breast though).
Spicy Tuna: The more you eat it, the saltier it tastes. It is not that spicy, so it would be fine for those who are not good at eating spicy things. Rating: 5/10
California: The avocado balanced the other ingredients very well, and is delicious and savory. Rating: 8/10
Salmon: The avocado also created a great balance with the slightly salty salmon, creating an overall great taste. I would recommend this if you visit. Rating: 9/10
Miso Soup: This soup does not taste much like the original Japanese style, as it is excessively salty to the point that it is unsavory. I do not recommend this. Rating: 3/10
Aji de Guillina: Rice with various toppings such as small cube-shaped roasted potatoes and strands of chicken breast. This was an okay dish, but did not have any wow factor whatsoever. I wouldn’t recommend this dish in particular, as it is approximately $15 and comes in a small quantity. Rating: 5/10
Met friends there recently in the early evening, and was pleased to learn they had a happy hour deals until 7p. We had to sit at the bar (not a problem) and proceeded to order drinks and a few sushi items. Japanese beers on draft were cold and refreshing, and cocktails were well crafted and moderately strong. Sushi was very fresh-tasting and delicious. A buddy ordered a fancier Japanese-Peruvian fusion dish off the main menu, and was very satisfied with it. The place was less than half-occupied so sound level was low and ambience was a bit muted, but we left by 8p, so I'm guessing things got livelier thereafter. Will definitely go back to sample the full menu as well as other cocktails.
This was a fun experience - cool ambience and lovely staff!
Server was not very personable and didn’t talk to us about the menu and exciting items. Rarely saw her as well even though it wasn’t that busy. Food was good as always
Loved, loved, loved the ambiance and happy hour menu. Appetizer (rice squares with spicy tuna) was also great. The place wasn’t busy on a Monday night but we saw lots of people on Friday night. Happy hour runs till 7- only in the bar area, but there were long high tops available. Only complaint was it was difficult to reach the restaurant by phone. Using Open Table worked well to secure a reservation. (However- we didn’t use the reservation since we wanted to dine off the happy hour pricing.). Favorite was the avocado, cucumber and asparagus roll.
