Surya was inspired by colonial India. For over two centuries, during a time period known as Indian colonialism, waves of settlers from England, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands arrived to the subcontinent. With them, came their immense influence on the Indian culinary scene, which brought about an entirely new cuisine that would forever change India’s already well established culinary landscape. Amidst the traditional cuisines that India already offered, a new development in the culinary world came about, which is known as the “Anglo-Indian” cuisine.
At Surya, we have created a menu utilizing the traditional and non-traditional ingredients to recreate dishes in hopes to allow our beloved community to socialize, dine, and drink.
Enjoyed our meal. Service was good. Food tasty & plentiful. Quiet. Able to sit & talk with my friend without feeling rushed.
Everything about this place was just meh. The entrees were good but not worth the price point.
Food was delicious and service was great. Used a pulsd voucher and waiter was very nice, helpful and accommodating. Great Indian restaurant off the beaten path.
The quality has not been consistent, ie not always as good as its beginning days. They need to upgrade the quality of the entree ingredients. Vegetarian dishes are better.
good as usual
I eat a LOT of indian food. The only bad thing about this restaurant is that I live 200 miles from it, and they have better indian food than anything in my own town. I don't consider myself an expert on authentic indian food by any stretch, but I will say that this certainly seems more authentic than most and the quality was DEFINITELY top notch
I returned after a long while with positive memories of top quality food. The service was professional, surprised the place was empty on a Saturday night. The biggest letdown was the food. It was nothing special, average at best.
Food was somewhat bland and undistinguished, which is unusual for Indian food
I've eaten here many times, but had a bad experience last Tuesday night. The restaurant was not full at all, and they would not allow us to move to a quieter table, (or turn down the annoying TV that was blasting to no one.) We finally moved tables, and ordered drinks. My tequila, lime, chile concoction was a disaster. I sent the drink back and the "fix" did not improve it. For $14 it should've been a hit, but this was a total miss. The service was gruff, with little to no explanations offered to our questions on the menu (we had a vegan with us, so needed to know which dishes had dairy, etc.) The food is very good, fresh and tasty, which is the only redeeming quality to this restaurant as the ambience, noise level, service and cocktails were all so bad.
It was fine but a little off- servings were randomly sized.
Food is fine, but service is poor. The restaurant was not busy enough for the waitstaff to forget about us. Would recommend other places.
Good food that arrived very quickly. Was easy to get a reservation on a Saturday night. Not great in atmosphere but not just takeout either. I would go back if I wanted Indian food, but not a special treat type of place.
Do not go unless you have hours. Service is almost non existent
As always, the food is delicious and fresh-tasting! Brought Indian-food-loving friends from out of town and they were very pleased as well.
Great place with a super friendly staff
I was treated exceptionally well… I really had a delicious dinner and a nice time… I will go again!
This was overall a great restaurant. The only issue was with the lack of waiters. There were only two waiters handling all the tables and drink orders. We always had to ask twice for something. However, the food and drinks were amazing. Would still highly recommend!
We always enjoy the food and atmosphere at Surya. And try to visit whenever we get to the city. Tasty food, well spiced, always pleasant service. (Only suggestion, please replace the chairs! If you eat there, grab one of the many little pillows to keep from sinking into the chairs. )
Delicious food! It’s always great when I go. They couldn’t find my reservation for this evening but still accommodated me when I showed them the OpenTable reservation on my phone. It took them about 5 minutes to get a table set up for a party of three on a very busy Friday night. The hostess was apologetic about the mixup with the reservations and was very accommodating. The wait staff always provides excellent service. I love this place!
Surya provide classic Indian fare with excellent blewnd of spices. the foos is dependable and consistent
Pretty empty and mediocre indian flavours.
The food here is excellent as is the staff ! I’m looking forward to going back again.
I have been here half a dozen times and have enjoyed some very tasty meals -- this time was no exception.
We enjoyed the samosas, and the cauliflower chili fry appetizer was terrific. The chicken and lamb saag dishes were also well prepared. We ordered Bira (a craft beer from India), but did not like it at all, so we switched to Sauvignon Blanc, but the second round arrived at room temperature instead of being properly chilled. Unfortunately, a party of about 20 boisterous guys in their 20"s and 30's (who told us that they were part of a "curry club") arrived halfway through our meal, and the noise level became unbearable. They were decent chaps, just having a boys night out, but they overwhelmed the restaurant. Incidentally, they agreed with our judgment on the Bira). Most of the time, the noise level at Surya is moderate, as large groups are not a common occurrence.
This is the second time I've been to Surya and again I was not disappointed. The food is authentic Indian (from what region I do not care) and delicious. Again, I shared with my friends the Butter Chicken, which is a must try. This is not a simple recipe. It's complex with some unique flavors you don't often taste. Fenugreek leaves being one. In many Indian dishes that use white meat chicken it can taste dry and over done. Not in this dish. It's moist and full of flavor. Also, we shared the Shrimp Curry and Saag Paneer. Two traditional Indian dishes but again, prepared in such a way that didn't taste like it was loaded with oil and sitting in a pot for five hours.
The portions are not huge, which is good thing, but it's just the right amount to share. I also appreciate that the restaurant is not obnoxiously loud.
I would suggest starting your meal with the BBQ Cauliflower or Samosa. Delicious.
The staff couldn't be nicer and more attentive.
I highly recommend this little Indian gem in the heart of the Village.
Delicious. Good flavor. Not too spicy. Great drinks too!
How amazing every dish was! My fiancé has only dabbled in Indian food and he was highly impressed with the level of quality of our meal. Will definitely return!
I very much loved my experience at Surya. Immediately upon entering the restaurant I was greeted warmly. The ambiance of the place is quite lovely and definitely matches that of a restaurant run by family.
I went here with a few of my girlfriends, and we had a great time. Food was delicious and prices were reasonable.
Very expensive for what it is.
Tastes good but seriously not worth the cost.
The spray paint on the walls makes one expect college-student budget price. The flavor was there but even with a $10 Groupon discount I still walked away feeling like a sucker.
Nice ambiance and good tasting food. Definitely on the expensive side but not very unusual for the area. Would visit again.
Biryani is like tomato rice and when I asked they told me that it’s their style. No Ritha with biryani how would that be a complete dish and the biryani has lot of tomato pieces in it very bad.
The cauliflower appetizer was phenomenal! Had an amazing bartender/server who created delicious drinks. Wonderful experience- would love to come back!
Big fan of Indian food – and Surya always hits the spot. Had a variety of appetizers and entrees and all were tasty!
Good Indian food. My server recommended the Nilgri Lamb Korma with garlic naan. It was delicious. My Bombay Bhel Puri Chaat appetizer was also very tasty. I enjoyed my meal very much.
Outstanding food - ambiance let’s it down a little in my opinion
Fresh ingredients with good options to mix and match. Excellent service. Won’t disappoint
Amazing food!! Did not disappoint at all!! Waitstaff was wonderful!!
Sweet Indian authentic dining! Delightful flavors and prompt service!
Early dinner 530 before a blue show. Food and service really good, but they were cleaning by bar with Lysol-like cleaner. Probably better a little later.
What a great lunch we had today!
