Sur Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Went to SUR for dinner with my wife after attending Jimmy Kimmel live. Had seen SUR on TV as my wife enjoys watching RHOBH, and thought it would be fun to actually go this place, even though we were not expecting to have any quasi-celebrity run ins. I had heard from a co-worker who had gone and was not impressed with the food, so I had low expectations. We had reservations for 9pm, arrived at 8:30 and ordered drinks at the bar. A pineapple mojito for me and a raspberry mojito for my lovely wife. The bartender was great, acknowledged us immediately and said he'd be right with us as he was making drinks for a group of 6. He was very gracious and attentive, and the drinks were very good. At $15 each, plus tip, it's not cheap but I guess it's what you'd expect from a place like this. 17 years ago in New York City, we were already paying these prices when going clubbing, so we thought it was fair. Our table was ready about 20 minutes later, and we ordered the crab and shrimp cakes as appetizer (3 cakes), and for main course the grilled swordfish for me and the scallops for my wife. The food was delicious, and decidedly better than I expected. Our waiter was very good, but the only negative comment I had was that service was a bit slow. This is not a knock on the server, but it seemed they were understaffed, as he was the only server in that section of the restaurant. He was absolutely great, but he was definitely overextended, hence the slow service. It took a while for him to come take our order, and also a while to get our check, but again I think it was a result of him being overextended. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back and recommend to friends. PS. We actually did see Lisa V while we were at the bar, which was unexpected for us.
Food is delicious ambiance is dark could use more lighting. It was nice seeing a few cast members they were nice and took pics. The music kept starting and stopping with moments of silence would've been better to have continuous music to keep with the vibe.
Knowing that this restaurant is famous due to the owner and her TV show, we were expecting it to be fun and vibrant but had low expectations for the food. Well were we wrong! Everything was fantastic including the food!! And the service was top notch. A lovely hostess, two fun and attentive waiters. We loved it so much, we changed our reservation at a different restaurant for a birthday celebration tonight to SUR. Can’t wait to be back. (And went to PUMP last night and was more of the same and a beet salad that was OUT OF THIS WORLD - so good I had two!!)
We arrived early for our reservation which we mentioned to the hostess and chose to sit in the lounge area. A bit after our reservation time she never came to get us. I had to walk to the front, wait for her and then she sat us right after. Most establishments come to get you since you are waiting but I had to do the follow up which was surprising to me. Bartender service was ok. He did his job, made a drink , not much friendliness there. Our server was terrific. Very helpful and accommodating . Bread, wine and dinner was great!
Food was okay, our server was great. We made reservations and were told when we arrived (not when we scheduled reservation) that we had to sit on the outside patio and couldn't eat actually in the restaurant. It was cold and this is something we should have been told ahead of time. I was extremely disappointed.
OMG, so good to be back. It had been far too long!! Still as beautiful as ever, service (and servers) as lovely as ever, food... maybe even better than ever! I had planned to have my usual (Joe's Fettuccine), but I couldn't resist the Chilean Sea Bass special (with Lobster Vodka Sauce) and it was phenomenal. My dining partner ignored my suggestion and chose the Pasta Sicilienne. Good thing, too, because it was a delicious discovery. Just the right amount of tang.
I couldn't have been happier with the whole evening; plus it was huge a hit with my dining partner who was there for the first time.
The food was excellent! That is coming from some very picky people. Delicious flavor paring, fresh tasting, attention to detail, such as cutting the olive bread into manageable pieces- so you don't feel like a dog playing tug of war with a bread slice. The portions were very generous, pleasing my husbands carnivorous appetite. He was purring when we left.
I hate to bring this part up but with hopes for your info to note. The lemon drop martini was not. Very watered down. I should of sent it back but I didn't want to start my evening on a negative vibe. I did have one at PUMP later and it was A+++.
Thanks for the Great memories, Neil and Patty
Made this reservation not realizing it was the location from the TV show. You pay for the ambiance, not the food. The dumpling appetizer was bad. Undercooked noodles and cold. Ahi was ok, nothing special. Duck was good, cooked perfectly and made the meal worth it. The cobbler dessert was also a nice end to the meal.
Had a delicious dinner! Max Vanderpump was our waiter and Peter brought us our drinks. Great to see people from the show! Saw Lisa Vanderpump at PUMP. She wasn't as friendly as I thought considering we had just spent $450 at her SUR restaurant. Just thought she'd be a bit more gracious. Otherwise, great time!
The bar service was slow and drinks were just ok but the restaurant service was great as well as the food. Don’t expect to see any of the people from the shows they do t really work there anymore just during the show. But overall loved the food and waitress was very sweet and attentive..
Very disappointed. Came from Canada. Have watched Lisa’s shows and have always wanted to try her restaurants. The shows make them seem so good. The staff was relatively friendly when they were talking to us. They seemed to be more concerned about their social life than anything else. Food is expensive and not descriptive enough. I ordered a side Caesar salad and there was giant anchovies on top. I lost my appetite and only took one bite. I was very polite to waiter and said I wasn’t expecting that. He said back to me “oh you don’t want to eat?” Then he took it away. He seemed very upset that I didn’t want it. Obviously this was taken off our bill. I went with my cousin to dine and it was so dark in there, I had to use my light on my phone to read the menu. Bathroom was gross - the couple sitting beside us said the same thing. For such a “Hollywood” type of restaurant, I was extremely disappointed. Too bad. I’ve loved Lisa since the shows have been on and certainly didn’t expect any of this. We were going to try Villa Blanca the next day, but after SUR, we decided not to. My cousin ordered pasta and her bill was $45. We could’ve made the dish for $10.
My wife is a big fan of the show so we were in for a week with family for Thanksgiving and decided to have a date night at Sur. I was pleasantly surprised at how GOOD the food and SEVICE was. The waitress was adorable and so nice and we picked all winners on the menu, the goat cheese balls were so good! Shrimp cocktail was perfect! Can’t wait to be in LA again so we can go to Sur.
