Thoughtfully prepared food drawing inspiration from Braddock, its people, its history and its perseverance. The cuisine will best represent the eclectic style which has become a trademark of Chef Kevin Sousa.
We share a space with Barebones Productions, a Pittsburgh-based theatre company founded by Patrick Jordan.
Thank you for making my mom’s birthday so wonderful. The table was very nice. She really enjoyed her meal and the service was excellent.
I am a Pittsburgher so the location is absolutely amazing. Through large windows you look out on a still functioning Steel Mill, we had a foggy night and it was amazing. The food is wonderful. You can tell lots of thought has gone into it and the flavors are so interesting. The meat was cooked perfectly. All the waiters and staff are amazing, so kind and knowledgeable!
The only negative is the bar. They only have one kind of vodka, Ketel One (I love martinis), and same with bourbon/whisky, very limited options. Also the martini amount was tiny, only half a glass full. However other than needing to fully stock their bar and providing more generous drinks the place is wonderful and will definitely go again for dinner and also business dinners! thank you all for such a memorable experience.
(the small plates are amazing, could have just had all of them instead of entrees!!!). we had 4 and all superb,
The first time we went to superior motors the food was so much better. This second time we went back expecting the same amazing food but half of the dishes were not that tasty and not worth the prize.
It was just OK, so we are unlikely to return. Service staff seemed inexperienced. For example, we ordered our first course of roasted carrots and scallops, but our waiter did not advise that both dishes were served cold, or that the scallops were served raw. We just expected more based on the hype and the price tag we paid.
Food was good - dishes were well thought out and delicious, but service was l not. At first we though slow service was purposeful in pacing the meal - but when we actually waited a full 30 minutes between dinner and desert with no attention at all or offer of after dinner drinks as all of our cocktails were empty we were very disappointed. Also our server made us discuss how bills would be split while we were ordering, but then didn’t split bill and was annoyed when we asked him too - then proceeded to charge our cards wrong. To expensive of a restaurant for that terrible of service. Would love to go back to try more of the dishes but I fear it wouldn’t be worth my time.
Absolutely knocked it out of the park! Our waitress, can’t remember her name, was the best I’ve ever had. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and just made the experience top notch. the manager gave us a tour and went above and beyond making this more than just a great dinner experience. Grew up in the mon valley and I can’t believe this place is there. Way to go superior motors and the awesome staff. Food was off the charts!
Altogether a great overall restaurant. We went during Restaurant Week, but it might be pricey on a regular night.
Having a meal at Superior Motors is an experience - a mouth watering, mind bending experience. If you chew your food only on the right side of your mouth, the left side will hate you until you die. Always chew on both sides of your mouth at Superior Motors.
The food surprises you, because you almost can't believe that something on simply listed on the men as, "Carrots" will blow your mouth and mind apart. I don't know where they grow those carrots, but they (and all the food here) will change your life. I've eaten here twice in the last month and I was worried the second visit wasn't going to rise to the level of the first. On my second visit, I went with a different group of friends and worried I hyped it up so much that the meal would leave them disappointed. I was wrong; they were blown away and I was too.
The service is superb; all the folks working are genuine and delightful. Unlike some restaurants with similar price points and who aim for similar culinary accolades, nobody puts on airs, there's no pompousness or vanity, just good folks bringing together community with crazy good food. And although the chef is award winning and ridiculously talented, it's abundantly clear that the food is the only celebrity at SM.
Just totally outstanding, we had a great dinner/experience.
We came here for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. I had been here two times before. A credit card is required for reservations. I called to add a person on to my reservation. The host who answered the phone was brusque with me and hung up without saying goodbye or anything. He came across as brusque in person as well. He offered to take other people's coats but not ours. Maybe we did not look classy enough. The Restaurant Week Menu said that if one person wants the Restaurant Week special, that the whole table must order it as well which I think is ridiculous. I've never seen a restaurant do that before. Also, it didn't say it on the website, so I never would've known that ahead of time. Thank goodness the people I came with both wanted to order the Restaurant Week special or I would've been out of luck. The server explained that they were out of the carrots for the first course. When she saw the disappointed look on my face she told me that it's not the end of the world and to get over it. I thought that was very unprofessional and it rubbed me the wrong way. I would never say that to a customer. The presentation of the octopus was great but the presentation of the other dishes are always served on over-sized plates with the food on the edge of the plate to the point where it looks like it's hanging off. I guess it's supposed to be dramatic but I really don't see the appeal in that. It makes the portion sizes look even smaller than they already are. The best part of the experience was probably the flavors of the dishes. The smokiness of the pork was very nice. I enjoyed the rice cakes, which were the substitute for the carrots, more than I thought I would. The cilantro was a nice touch. Every time I have come to Superior Motors I have really wanted to like it but found it to be underwhelming. With so many wonderful restaurants in Pittsburgh, I'm struggling to find reasons to come back here.
Food, cocktails and wine were all amazing. Started with the beef tartare and chicken appetizers, which were both phenomenal. I had the duck and my boyfriend had the pork; again, both outstanding (my duck stole the show, though). We finished off with the smoked banana dessert. The tamarind ice cream was a perfect tart touch.
Our server, Jason, seemed new and a little flustered. Stumbled over descriptions of the food and read directly from the menu sitting next to me to describe one of the dishes. Not a huge deal... We didn’t have many questions so it wasn’t the end of the world.
Definitely pricey, but well worth the cost. Awesome atmosphere and super fun vibe - much more casual than the menu prices suggest. I highly recommend this place for a date or even a small group of friends for a special occasion!
The food, service and ambiance were fantastic.
Superior Motors was a real treat. Food was innovative but accessible (for Pittsburgh area diners). Prices were in line with what you'd expect at a fine dining restaurant. Location was a bold decision, being directly across from a remaining steel mill. But, in Pittsburgh, it works! Staff was very professional. Definitely worth a trip!
Will go back. Expensive, but if you’re looking for a different kind of dining experience with unique food options, give it a try.
We had a lovely meal. Todd was wonderful and the service awesome. Great place to celebrate a special occasion or to treat yourself.
This restaurant came enthusiastically recommended by a friend and it exceeded my high expectations. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the interior was roomy yet intimate at the same time. My husband and I were seated at a lovely table by the window, where we could watch the gentle snowfall. Our server was warm and welcoming and gave us some tips on the menu since it was our first time. We ordered a variety of smaller plates to start - everything was delicious but the rice cakes stood out the most. For entrees, my husband enjoyed the pork while I had the venison. Excellent dishes! But my favorite was dessert - I had the tonka bean/pear dish which was totally unique and fantastic. The food here is innovative, but still familiar and accessible. It was one of the more special dining experiences I’ve had in Pittsburgh, for sure.
Recently saw this restaurant featured on Anthony Bourdains show and knew I had to try it out when in town. It did not disappoint. The food was inventive, beautifully presented and most importantly delicious.
We pushed ourselves to choose items outside of our normal palate and are very glad that we did. If you are looking for a great dining experience, definitely give this place a try.
Worth the wait - exquisite evening - absolutely perfect - the wait staff, the plating, the food, everything! THANK YOU!
Everything was amazing from start to finish. Had the 5 course tasting menu which they happily modified to make gluten free. Had a wine special mid week that’s worth taking advantage of . Overall amazing! Our server Aroyanna (sp) was fantastic. Enthusiastic and well informed. Really well done
Too expensive and not happy with the food. But it is good for people who like to try new food, new ways to prepare food.
I had great expectations and was severely let down, especially when reading it was ranked one of the top ten 2018 restaurants in the nation. I loved the hip ambiance and overall visual appeal as well as the friendly, eager to please, and attentive staff. My date and I shared several appetizers, two entrees, and a couple of deserts and found all to be lacking any robust, unique, or standout flavor that you'd savor till your next visit. Add to this the rather small portion size and expense, I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon. Maybe we just tried all the wrong things (the menu is limited), or it was an off night for the kitchen (I'd like to think this is the case after reading all the hype). All I can say is my date and I summed up the food experience on the ride home with a single word...disappointed.
Amazing! Loved the energetic atmosphere while enjoying eclectic, delicious food! The hostess was very extremely accommodating to the fact my husband was on crutches. Our table was perfect!
Valet parking would be fantastic!
Over priced terrible food
Great food, fantastic service, very knowledgeable and accommodating
A very satisfying adventure. Duck breast and confit was perfect, tender and flavorful.
Tonka bean dessert was amazing mix of creamy crunchy sweet and tart. Almost chocolate cherry, but a brand new flavor to me. Fun!
This is our third time at SM. It was initially for a NYE event that was then (unfortunately) cancelled. As always, the food was delicious and the setting is unique and worth the drive and indulgence. We all felt the service was a bit lacking and has seemed to decline since our initial visit. Our last 2 visits had servers that were either over-worked/stressed or did not want to be there (it was hard to tell which). But, I guess not everyone can be Bonnie (who is amazing).
Great service wait staff were very Knowledgeable about their food
We dined on NYE. It was our fourth visit and they do not disappoint. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Very creative menu as always. You just have to go to appreciate what a treasure we have here.
We were so excited to get this reservation, which only increased our disappointment at the mediocre food. No vegetarian main courses, only 3 first/second course options if you don’t eat meat or fish. Altogether there are only 4 options for a main. I had the pork which was tough as leather and tasteless.
We looked forward to dining here for weeks. We were told by many people how expensive it was and small portions. But we thought how bad could it be! The restaurant was full and we were told it was busier than it had been the eighteen months since opening. We were very impressed by the decor of the restaurant and the waiter was very helpful. The food we ordered was good but nothing I would ever recommend to friends especially for the price we paid. A friend that was with us travels often and dines often in Pgh. Was very disappointed also.
The staff was very polite but seemed to lack knowledge of the food and drink menu. The menu is a bit all over the place with flavors that were good but not great. Everything had one flavor note with nothing that was memorable.
The octopus is good but lacked much needed acidity. The duck presentation was the least appealing. Very monotone arriving on a dark gray plate with the food consisting of all shades beige. The overall flavor was too sweet with everything besides the savory duck. It could have passed for a dessert. The prawns were the most balanced of all the dishes. After 2 drinks 1app and 2 entrees a bill of $115 and still feeling hungry, I was not impressed.
We were a group of 5. The service was excellent. Our servers were friendly, professional and attentive without being obtrusive. We asked for suggestions a few times and their recommendations were spot on.
What I especially liked was that the dishes were items that I would never think to fix at home. Different and delicious.
We will definitely be going back, I highly recommend it.
Incredibly well constructed menu, plates and flavorful combinations. Octopus and Sturgeon were exceptional. A very memorable and special place. Top fifteen meal. Gin beet cocktail was stunning.
Superior motors was amazing!! Food was superb, and drinks were extremely well done. Great meal and service was impeccable.
The food was unique but incredible. Each course was perfectly timed and the servers were knowledgeable.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal. We tried several dishes and everything was fresh and well prepared.
Our dinner here was easily one of the best meals I have had in recent memory. Amazing cocktails, incredibly unique food, and great atmosphere for our family's last night together during the holiday week. Our service was a little slow at times, but that seemed to be because it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was completely booked. The location in Braddock right across from the Mon Valley steel plant situates you in Pittsburgh's past and present struggle as a steel town. Overall highly, highly recommend and looking forward coming back on my next trip home!
Great food, service, beverages and environment. Expect a unique menu outside what you are used to in terms of offerings and price. Dessert was great as well.
My wife, 3 of our adult children and I went for dinner over the holidays. We felt very unwelcome from the time we made the reservation. Needed to give a credit card to make a reservation and were told we’d be charged $125 if we didn’t show. We arrived 15 minutes early and the host indicated because there were so many people waiting we should drive to a local bar and he would call us when our table was ready. Instead, we went to the bar to wait. The bartender told us they only wanted diners to sit at the bar. We stayed nonetheless and had drinks until out table was ready (45 minutes after reservation time). Ambiance was very nice. The food was generally good - a bit “over-gourmeted” and very small portions. If we hear they have learned to appreciate customers, we may return.
