Sungari Pearl Restaurant
Definitely chef “Mike” made our meals... way over price. Very disappointed. If you don’t have fresh food, then don’t serve it!
Food was average and didn’t taste great enough to warrant cost.
The new bartender is just terrible. Consistently underfills drinks, doesn't know how to make them, rinses and re-rinses utensils in the same solution without rinsing. Friday evening, dining with friends, we all ordered drinks, I got the 'Golden Hammer' which I've had many times, it's maybe just over half full, tons of ice and extremely pale. Obviously, short on whiskey... I asked the server to return it and it be redone, but ask the bartender to fill it this time as it was too light and weak. Several minutes later, the bartender brings the drink and informs me 'it was meant to be made that way, but she added a shot and a half and would be charging me.' I didn't make a fuss about it, but we go there quite often and some recent new staff just don't seem to know what they're doing. First world problems, yes, but going to have to find a different place, the rest of the staff is great and food is always amazing. Meh, take out it is.
Eclectic lunch menu. Grilled salt and pepper scallops, Kung Pao Chicken, hot and sour soup were the favorite in our group.
Excellent choice. All the food was very good.
Great! The food was terrific and quick to come out. Very clean and organized restaurant.
Had been craving good Chinese food. Sungari Pearl was not just good, it was EXCELLENT! Love the refreshed interior as well. We’ll definitely be back soon.
Great service and food!
This was my first time to dine at Sungari. The experience was delightful, the wait staff excellent, and the food beautifully presented with plenty of flavors to enjoy. There are lots of menu choices. I chose this restaurant after reading they use ingredients of superior quality and many locally sourced.
Our group went for Chinese New Year to celebrate the year of the pig. This restaurant was recc by one of our foodie friends who helps judge for James Beard awards so he would know. The menu we saw on line looked fabulous. We had to order the black bean garlic crab a day before our arrival. Have to say we had a couple of different wait staff. The first, seemed like it was his first day. There were no print outs available of what was on the Chinese NY menu. The second server picked up the dropped ball nicely however there was such a lag in food delivery that it really detracted from the experience. The restaurant was not crowded. The food was incredibly delicious but they have a long way to go to make good the gaps in serving time between courses. We would go back for the food but wanted to give the heads up as this restaurant (although under a different name) did not live up to it's heritage on this night.
Our two dishes cost over $50.....we were there at 11:00 AM....when we asked about the high cost, we were told we ordered off the dinner menu......why were we given a dinner menu at 11:00 AM?????? I was given two menus and my friend had one....all three were different.....
Not a good reputation for this restaurant which was pretty much empty!!
I thought everything was really good: food, service, ambiance. I felt that it was a bit too expensive for what we got.
They brought the wrong dish, the server asked to box our meal while we were still eating, the food has sugar in it even though we told our server that we needed sugar free food.
Good gluten free options for most of the menu. We've been here for many holidays and always get seated right away. The service is always good. The food is excellent, with my favorite being the sesame prawns.
I had a great time celebrating my anniversary at Seres with some friends. I thought it was a great place, the food was amazing, and the service was excellent. I can't wait to go back.
Service was quick and attentive, however the food was disappointing. The chicken meal had very little meat and was very over-cooked and dry, the vegetable meal was undercooked and hard. The prices seem to have gone up, but the quality of food and flavor have declined.
The food and service are both incredible! They have a broad selection of food, great Happy Hour menu, and many delicious gluten free options as well (be sure to specifically request each dish as GF though). While this is a fine dining restaurant and does not have a kids menu, they went out of their way to accommodate the kids with us.
Food is fabulous! Best egg flower soup I’ve ever tasted. Service speedy. Pretty tableware. The overall ambiance is a bit cold and cavernous. I’ll be back for the great food quality.
I made a reservation for 11 AM on Friday but when we arrived, the sign on the door said the restaurant did not open until 11:30. If you change the hours, you need to change the website as well.
Loved it! The stir fried green beans were out of this world. Sesame chicken, honey shrimp and walnuts, fried rice...can’t wait to go back!
Seres has its roots in a restaurant called “Bamboo” that was located on NW 21st (at least about 10 years ago the chef and a couple of servers from there moved to Seres). At that time the food was very good...well seasoned, ample servings and authentic. Now “bland” is the operative word to describe Seres food. Even the red pepper oil seems without heat.
We wanted to like Seres, but our reaction was a collective yawn.
We both started with soup, egg flower and hot & sour. The food here is very consistent and the soups proved that. We also each had a different fried rice dish, and they were cooked perfectly. The vegetables here are very fresh and delicious.
We had Seres gift card that we submitted. They said their system is out of order but our cc worked ok.strang excuse.for us disappointment. We won’t be dinning there again.
Seres is a very consistent restaurant, making fresh dishes every night. The service was also very good.
Wonderful place for special occasion.
The food is always fresh and good. Prices are steadily rising, but we still enjoy dinner there on a special occasion.
I dined with a large group (three separate tables). Our waiter was wonderful - helpful, thoughtful and very cordial. I'd give him five stars. Unfortunately, the bartender was exactly the opposite. He never cracked a smile, didn't offer any info unless we asked (if they had a happy hour or offering suggestions, help). We are a very cordial group who dine out often and we appreciates good service. The bartender acted like he didn't want to wait on us or have us in his bar. Thank goodness everyone else in the restaurant make up for his surly nature.
Food was healthy but very bland. Nice steamed veggies but I wish they had more flavor. Atmosphere is quiet but a bit boring. Not bad but not great either.
We love this place! The food is fresh and delicious, service is awesome and you can actually have a conversation with your dinner party. We live in Seattle and choose to eat every time we visit Portland. We last visited on 5/5/18 to celebrate a college graduation. Grandparents to kids enjoyed their dinner. Highly recommend!!
Probably the best Chinese cuisine in Portland.
I used to go here when it was Sungari Pearl so I didn't know what to expect. Great food, service & atmosphere.
Food was quite good, service was confused at best, but over all a really fun night!
We were looking for Chinese food and Mai Tai's and we found it at Seres Restaurant and Bar. Had best Mai Tai's we have had at a restaurant in a long time. Kung Pau Chicken and Fried Rice were delicious. Waiter was excellent and made us aware of quantities in each dish so that we did not over order.
Great food and great service
This was our first time eating at Seres and we loved the food, cocktails and wine. Our waitress was very friendly. Atmosphere was a little more casual than we expected, but it was still nice. We definitely plan to go back and try a lot more things on the menu.
This is the second time we ordered the Peking Duck. Each time the wait person was so proficient with making the wraps. Deliberate and skillful with the chopsticks and each wrap was balanced with duck, sauce, and scallions. Delightful. Always like the balance of ingredients to sauce, authentic to the Chinese tradition. Such a wonderful treat. Lastly, when walking by the kitchen, we are always greeted with a smile and a wave. It is these little touches that make one feel they are getting a home cooked meal..The reverence of any culture are the details in which the food is presented. Thank you.
Found this restaurant on OpenTable and was a perfect Chinese meal. Kids loved the food, the waiter was friendly and accommodating to their tastes and allergies. And they had a good wine selection. Great for all!
You pay for high quality ingredients at Seres. The restaurant is spacious and beautifully designed. I had a lovely experience.
Seres is always a favorite of ours. Portland has an unlimited choice of restaurants but we somehow come back to Seres for reliable, tasty and healthy food.
My favorite Chinese in Portland -- amazing fried rice and the dry sautéed green beans are the best anywhere. Always enjoy my dinner here.
