Sundy House Ratings and Reviews
Anniversary dinner at 6pm in cold weather, so only the indoor room was available and suitable. Slightly noisy due to table of 6 celebrating a wedding. Ordered dinner special of 12 oz. strip steak with spinach and potatoes and the beet salad, both to be shared. Salad was tasty. Steak was more well than medium and my half had so much grizzle I didn't want to continue eating it, plus the two sides were sparse, considering there would be a $7 sharing charge. Eventually the waitress got the manager to come out. He offered a different choice or a new steak. We chose a new steak cooked more medium and with larger portions of the sides. This steak was cooked right, and again one half was full of grizzle. The sides were a reasonable portion. Everything tasted very salty. The rolls and wine were okay. We lost our appetite and so, didn't order a dessert. The $78 bill had written on it "Happy Anniversary".
Four of us were celebrating NYEve with dinner and dancing. We had a set menu which cost $150 per person without drinks. The portions were very small. Most of it was tasty, but not exceptional, except the short rib which tasted reheated. We waited for some good dancing music so we could dance a little, but realized there was nothing worth staying for. The band was poor, so 2 minutes after midnight, we left.
This was a return visit because the first visit was memorable and enjoyable. We were very underwhelmed this time. It just wasn’t what we remembered. The service was just okay. The food was pretty ordinary. The gardens and atmosphere were pretty but seemed neglected compared to our previous time. Out of 10 I give the restaurant a 5 overall. It just seems to need a bit of TLC and to step it up in all areas.
What a surprise! We had eaten there a year ago and I guess it was a cool night because we ate inside. This time we were taken to a “small gazebo” in their astonishing garden area. It could have been on a tropical island, as we were surrounded by lush vegetation and the sound a a gurgling stream. Then too, our friendly Trinidadian server, Kamlyn, added to the sense of being on a luxury vacation—two blocks from bustling Atlantic Ave! The food was equally outstanding.
I probably have been too generous giving 5 star reviews to some other restaurants, but this dinner certainly deserves my full praise.
Always love this place! We requested outside seating prior to our reservation and they did not have any. They should place a limit on outside reservations or call you prior to let you know they do not have any available. Sitting outside is a must if you go this place. Otherwise I will be back!
My husband treated me to Sunday Brunch at Sundy House for my birthday and I really loved it! The food was fantastic, the service impeccable and what a lovely view (of their beautiful gardens). This brunch is quite pricey though and you had better go with an empty stomach if you want to get your money’s worth. The food choices are endless. You can eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner all in the one meal! They have a breakfast station (all sorts of eggs including fresh-made omelets, fresh-made crepes and French toast, bacon, sausages, etc.). They have a seafood station (including oysters on the half shell, shrimp, crab legs, calamari salad, seaweed salad, etc). Then there’s the carving station where they were carving turkey, roast beef and other meats. There were also salads, vegetables, fruits, pasta and mini cakes for dessert. Our server offered us unlimited drinks as well, including Mimosas, Bellini’s and Bloody Marys - as well as coffee and tea. Everything we ate was delicious and we ate way too much food and were so full that we couldn’t eat anything more that day. I recommend this restaurant highly, but only for a special occasion.
Not very impressed on this visit! The first problem was the reserved table...too small for normal sized people, the staff went into panic mode, they told us to wait by the reception desk until they could figure out a solution. I suggested to move one of the other tables closer...problem solved!
The food was okay, but not as impressive as in past experiences. Oyster had a "strange" taste, the crab legs had a strong odor. The Rib-eye and the lamb were tough to chew.
I could go on, but I'm sure your got the message.
There was a fine selection of options on the menu. Our server Nat was outstanding .
My only issue with the restaurant is the $5 charge for mandatory valet. You have just spent over $200 on dinner and wine and they hit you with a $5 valet charge. One would think the restaurant could absorb the convenience charge since there is virtually no other convenient option for onsite or nearby parking
Went on Sunday night for wife’s birthday. Arrived and was told they did not have outdoor heaters on for us to sit in the garden because they did not have enough reservations. The whole reason you go there is for the gardens. Big disappointment. Food was okay but should be great for the price.
Would Not recommend.
"Outstanding" is the only word to describe selection of food and it's display, the beautiful grounds and historic atmosphere. We went for Sunday brunch and we're pleasantly surprised at the huge array of offerings from Alaskan crab legs, to fresh oysters, prime rib, crepes, Belgian waffles and on and on! Loved it and cannot wait to go back on our next vacation to Delray Beach!
Great bar set the tone for a pleasant dining experience. Very good service and beautiful setting. Unfortunately my dish was a big disappointment. I had the duck and it was mediocre at best. The skin was rubbery and the the pomegranate reduction was not very flavorful and rather sparse. I was unpleasantly surprised as most dishes are usually outstanding. I will return but I will not order again. Too bad as I really like duck.
We got stuck in the little velvet room on the side at a table that usually meant for 2 but there were 4 of us. I know it was on and off raining so there wasn’t much of an option, but I wouldn’t go back if I had to sit in that room again. There was no music, it was so tight. We kept having to push in to let people by. That was really disappointing considering how much money we spent. That being said the buffet was amazing. Great selection and well done. The tables in the other rooms and outside with music and beautiful scenery looked amazing. It’s unfortunate. They should put the buffet in the ugly side room and let people eat where it’s pretty.
The first server we had disappeared after our first round of drinks and we had to ask to send someone over for a second round. Then we got a new server who was great. I can’t remember her name but she had long braided hair. She was so sweet and friendly and attentive. She made the rest of the dinner great.
Overall if we had been seated somewhere else I would have loved it. It’s a shame
