Sundance The Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Sundance is a traditional upscale steak house with good fish and seafood options. Food is not mean to be super creative, but is executed well and very flavorful. Beef is exquisite, the fresh fish of the day which was chilean seabass was excellent with it's herbs and butter, seasoned perfectly. The shrimp I tried on another visit was also done well. Food is prepared from scratch with minimal additives and I was able to eat there without worry that I'd have a reaction to hidden MSG. True flavors of the high quality foods shone here enhanced by traditional sauces and that is their emphasis.
The food was great. The service was extremely disappointing. When I made the reservation on Opentable, I indicated that it was for a birthday. After we were seated, we had to wait a few minutes before we were acknowledged by our waiter. After he acknowledged us, he disappeared for a few minutes before asking if we wanted drinks. He brought us our drinks and disappeared for another 10 minutes before finally asking what we wanted to order. Our food was brought out by someone else, and not once during our meal did our waiter ask how everything was. What really annoyed me was that I saw that the couple at the table right next to ours was also there to celebrate a birthday. Their waiter was extremely attentive, went up to them as soon as they were seated, explained the menu, asked if they needed anything. I saw their waiter check on them at least 6 times. Our waiter seemed distracted, wasn't even very friendly, which made me feel like we weren't important. In fact, he made it seem like we were a nuisance. At the end of their meal, I saw that the couple next to us received a surprise piece of cake for the birthday they were celebrating. I don't expect free desserts for special occasions, but the fact that I indicated it was a birthday, and that the table next to us received a dessert AND better service than me, really makes me think that my experience at Sundance could have been way better. I think that the obviously inconsistent service is something that should be fixed. I am a nice person and didn't want the poor service to ruin a birthday celebration, so I assumed our waiter was just extremely busy that night and gave him a generous 20% tip, but I really regret doing that because it angers me to think about how little attention we got during this special dinner.
Even though we misplaced the reservation (we arrived one day before the scheduled date), the guests were accommodating and managed the situation very well. Our family was placed at a bar table where the restaraunt menu was also available. The atmosphere is cozy and fun and the food is superbe. Will definetely get back there.
Comfortable old fashioned mainly meat and potatoes type place. Come early for the early bird special. Great value, full sized portions and delicious. Choice of soup or salads, many entree selections, and veggies included. Roast beef was excellent. Service was attentive and professional and the noise level at our corner table was reasonable. We had forgotten about this restaurant but we will return.
My husband and I drove from Monterey to meet a dear friend from San Francisco for lunch and were not disappointed. We all ordered steak (prime rib and filet mignon). Both were perfectly cooked. The appetizers were delicious (crab cakes, asian chicken salad and yellowtail/hamachi). The waitstaff were excellently attentive. We would return and definitely recommend Sundance!
Sundance is reliable, consistent with great service and great food. You can count on your prime rib being cooked just as you asked for it. For lunch Asian Chicken Salad is generous and tasty. I recently had a cup of Lobster Bisque and the Dungeness Crab Cakes for a light and very satisfying lunch. My friend was having her holiday splurge with a perfectly cooked 12oz. slice of prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed aldente carrots and broccoli. She was a very happy camper. We split the white chocolate creme brûlée that was delicious. Service is prefect, attentive but not overly so. Although tables were turning over we never felt rushed. We enjoyed our lunch in our quiet cozy booth. I can highly recommend Sundance Mine Company for reliable, consistent food and service.
You can always be guaranteed a tasty meal in nice surroundings. The Sunset early special cannot be beat; good selections at a great price. The restaurant was noisy the other night which was unusual, but perhaps the holiday season has started. The meals are so generous that we usually take home a small box. Unfortunately this time the boxes got mixed up so the three of us got surprises when we opened the boxes to eat the leftovers. But it was still good!!
Overall, we had a very nice dinner. Service though pleasant was a little slow after the meal was served. Waiter though a nice and pleasant gentlemen got tied up with other tables. It took awhile to get the check. We still enjoyed the evening and meal and will be back again. Highly recommended for special occasions.
The food was enjoyed by all the guests. The salads and the main entrees were adequately
proportioned and flavorful. The dining area was a little loud so it was sometimes hard to
hear our table conversation. I wish the waitress would have presented us the Sunset Menu since we were there during that timeframe.
