What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
Wonderful experience as always. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago
Extremely disappointing. Food is average. Definitely not worth the money. I had high expectations of this place due to reviews, but honestly not great. Service was even worse. I asked if they could charge me $4 extra tip and get me some cash as I was missing $4 cash for their valet. Manager said that they are a third party so I had to talk to them and see what they could do for me. After spending $200 at their restaurant, this is what I get for asking a $4 favor. I would have never done that to a customer. Poor poor management service.
Great for large groups. We tried a bit of everything.
Came here for my birthday with friends and our server forgot our main dish (my cousin and I are vegetarian). Everyone finished eating (we ordered quite a few dishes for the non-vegetarians) and we still didn’t have our dish. We mentioned it to our server and he forgot to place the order and there was no point in ordering anything since everyone was done eating. Unfortunately we only had the edamame and Brussel sprout salad for dinner which didn’t fill us up. Usually we’ve had great experiences but the server didn’t seem too bothered by missing our main dish which was quite disappointing.
The crunchy Brussels sprouts salad was good, the wasabi aioli on the panda roll was too strong so it wasn't very tasty and the oxtail pot stickers were a little weird. The service was average. Given that it is a shared menu, they really should have been changing our plate all throughout our meal but we kept the same plate the entire time. I like the ambiance, so I would go again to try other dishes.
Food was great. Cocktail service was slow.... Noisy. When we came in, they seated two other parties that arrived after us before seating us.
We had a party of 7 people and they were very accommodating. The food was wonderful, the drinks were tasty, and the service was great. This place is VERY pricey, but if you choose the right things (brussel sprout salad) it's totally worth it!
The crunchy sushi is wonderful.
We tried just about everything the waitress recommended and loved it. From the warm Brussel Sprout salad to Oxtail potsticker and then our entrees. Very much enjoyed the food, a bit stingy on the portion size for the price of the meals. Will be back to try the sushi.
A friend from Chicago recommended this place and a Royo if us were visiting for the day, very please with the quality of the food and the atmosphere!
Great food. Daniel was an amazing server. Everything he recommended was fantastic!
Fantastic food and service
Great atmosphere and worth the trip
Everything on menu was fantastic. We loved our food! Thank you so much making it special!
Visited from out of town, and just say the reviews aren’t that close about this restaurant at all!! The service was below anyone’s expectations and the value for the food was not fair what what you actually received.
Good food. Noisy environment.
We enjoyed the high end Chinese dinner at the high energy Sunda. The clientele was very attractive. It is a very high energy restaurant. The food was delicious and the menu very varied. The cocktails were poor. The prices are high . The decor is very attractive. The wait staff were professional and efficient. The location is very good on Illinois Street. I recommend Sunda
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for some time, and was NOT disappointed. Can't wait to return :)
Lovely atmosphere. Great food. Variety menu. Would go again. Miso black cod superb!
Took a Sunda virgin tonight. Big big hit. We started with the Brussels sprouts and everything went up from there. Btw the Brussels Sprouts are delish! Good fun lots of good food! Always a hit!!!
Terrific food and service.
Food was excellent and family style was fun. Thanks again for a great night Sunda!
Sunda has been my favorite place to get sushi in Chicago for two years. However, this time everything was lacking. The sushi took forever and when it came out it was loose, some pieces falling apart and everything was not evenly distributed. Not happy and not sure if I’ll be back. I got the Ridiculous and ice cream was melted in a puddle around it.
Great apitizers. Pad thai was decent tho
Excellent quality and flavor. Looking forward to going back.
this was our 2nd time to Sunda. we love the scene, the décor of the place. the food is unique and great twist on Asian (Filipino) staples. on of the best parts is the people watching, great place for large parties, but I think what makes this one of Chicago's best restaurants is the twist on the Asian Filipino fusion. Each time we visit our son from California, Sunda is a must
Food was pretty delicious. Has the gambler which was amazing even after struggling to finish my meal when I found the ghost pepper in one of my sushi rolls. Wait staff was not attentive and fairly inexperienced, looked as if they were only present to look pretty. Perhaps better service would come had we not sat in the lounge area. Will have to visit again for my free dessert.
Have eaten at Sunda several times and never disappointed. We took friends who had never been there and had a wonderful evening with wonderful food and drinks! From the drinks to the sushi to the main entrees and sides - all fabulous!
It was absolutely perfect! And the service was excellent.
Food was AMAZING! Everything we ordered just kept getting better and better. Listen to your server on what they recommend, everything he recommended was delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Don’t know what took us so long to eat here but we will be back VERY soon!
Oxtail potstickers!!!! So good!!!
Excellent and unique food. Everything was outstanding. Great cocktails too.
Nice place. They brought us a complementary dessert for our anniversary.
Great service and good food! Will love to come back again. Prices are on the higher side but the choice of food is excellent. Something for everyone.
Ordered the oxtail potstickers, spicy edamame, wagyu crispy rice, pork belly, escolar and red dragon. Everything was delicious! The stars of the show were the wagyu crispy rice, sooo tender and flavorful, it melts in your mouth and the escolar, well balanced, creamy tuna, crispy potato chip bits and truffle shavings, YUM! Noise was on the louder side but we were still able to have a conversation. Food comes out as it's ready, drinks came out quickly, and then not so quickly. BlackBerry Limeade and Old Fashioned are the way to go. As usual, a delightful experience, highly recommend.
One of the best Asian restaurants in Chicago. A must for anyone that likes this type of food.
Fantastic food and great service.
We went there for brunch and it was decent but it would be better for dinner. The duck buns were delicious. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good.
The food at Sunda was so unique and amazing!! We went with the recommendations from our server to try the Penang chicken, Oxtail potstickers, and Crispy brussel sprouts. They did not disappoint, she knew her stuff because we loved all of them!
Amazing. I loved everything about my experience. Waiter was super friendly, food was creative and delectable, and the scene was vibrant and exciting.
