Sunda Ratings and Reviews
We came in way earlier than our reserved time for brunch but the hostess was super nice that he seated us right away anyways. Our waitress was amazing she was very knowledgeable on the menu and all her recommendations were a hit! Try the crispy brussel salad and tempura French toast, phenomenal..! Overall we had a great time there and will be coming back.
We love this place. We have dined there many times. Food was not up to par this visit. Sushi rolls were good. New York strip steak was excellent. Shrimp dish, lobster noodles, pad thai, and brussle sprouts arrived not even warm, disappointing. Dessert was good.
Sunda is always great. The oxtail potstickers are ridiculously good, ditto the wagyu and crispy rice. Thick hamachi sashimi and savory eel nigiri made the meal sing. James, our server, was friendly, knowledgeable, and on point with the spirits.
We’ll be back soon, 100%
Food was outstanding as was the service. I told the waiter our budget as it was a big group. He gave great options and picked our entire meal. It was amazing. We had the chef's table right behind the sushi bar. They sent us a roll called the gambler-- one piece had a ghost pepper. Our group all had a piece which we ate at the same time and one person got the ghost pepper. The roll was amazing and it was a fun Experience. It was definitely a great ambiance and it was super lively. Perfect for business or client dinner.
While the food was tasty, and service friendly, our server seemed overwhelmed by the busyness and there were too many long gaps in her attention.
Also, the noise was beyond energetic. When one is hoarse after a meal and has to shout to one's companion to be heard, it is too much. It was fortunate I was dining with only one person. Trying to have a conversation with more than one would have been excruciating.
This was my second visit and it did not disappoint! It was a work event with 8 other people and we were all impressed and happy! You must try the crispy brussels sprouts. We did it family style and all entries were well received by those that like spicy and those that do not. Pricey, but delicious.
Once again, Sunda reinforces that it's a force to be reckoned with. We happened to be there the day the new Fall Menu was introduced. Subtle changes that are perfect compliments to an almost perfect menu.
Our server was amazing. Super cool, helpful, friendly and obviously an expert on the menu. Love it when curious menu discussions back and forth result in something that proves out to be magically delicious!
If you're looking for Japanese-fusion-super creative-all-around-deliciousness, go. Start with the crispy brussel sprouts and beef lollipops...from there, just frickin' go for it and smile.
Love this place :)
We were looking for a place to have lunch/brunch before going to the Contemporary Art Museum on a Sunday. I found descriptions of Sunda which is slightly less than a mile from the CAM. We had the Brussels sprout salad--fantastic flavors with other vegetables included. Also had the chicken curry dish--equally good. We ordered the chicken without rice and ate it like a soup. More than enough food with just these two dishes for the two of us. The desserts were enticing--a scoop of ice cream wrapped in a covering of carrot cake and deep fried--but we abstained. Super food. Is now our favorite in River North.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice sushi spot to go on a date, he’d been to Sunda once before years ago and remembered it being good good and an overall decent experience. I made a reservation for Sunda for Saturday evening with high hopes. We got seated right away yet didn’t have any one approach our table for over 10 minutes. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu but did not have any further professionalism. The food took at least 45 minutes to come out after we had ordered a bottle of wine, in which the waiter took from our table upon pouring our first glass- which was very off putting. It should have been left at our table. Overall, the food was good but we left after the appetizers because the service was so terrible. Will not be coming back.
Highly recommend the brussels sprouts and the pork buns - they were definitely the highlight of our brunch! The garlic noodles were also a hit with our table. The only item that we weren't crazy about was the "crunchy pig, hidden lobster" roll - it didn't have any textural contrast except for the bacon, and it all tasted the same (boring). The lychee mimosas were delicious! Looking forward to trying the sumo mary next time.
This is my second visit to Sunda, both reservations were with a group, this allowed me to sample numerous items. You can close your eyes and make your food choices and still love everything you order. Bottom line, Sunda has great food and even better cocktails. Can't wait to return.
