Sunda - Chicago
Crispy Brussels Sprouts
brussels sprouts, red cabbage, red onions, carrots, chilies, fried shallots, minced shrimp, nuoc cham vinaigrette
chicken, thai basil, water chestnuts, shallots, ginger vinaigrette
An order of lumpia was placed on our table. We did not order the lumpia but the server said "enjoy it since we can't take it and reserve it." People in our reservation started to eat them, and then 5 minutes later a food runner came by and picked them up and asked "did you order these?" and we said no so he took the half eaten lumpia and put them on the correct table that ordered them. The table happened to be right next to ours so we warned them that we ate out of it, but the disregard from the food runner was absolutely appalling. The food was great, but the fact that it was taken from our table and placed on another table is disgusting. Hoping this doesn't happen often.
Birthday dinner with friends. Everyone LOVED their food and atmosphere. Our server, Noel, was awesome!
Wagyu crispy rice is a must
I have been to Sunda numerous times and found this past Saturday coming ip a bit short. Noise level of the music played was all too loud to hear servers through their masks, seating was poor ( at least for us). The table for two was super small to have a majority of our order all brought at once. Apparently the staging that i have generally experienced at Sunda doesn’t happen on weekends. After our first onslaught of food there was a solid 20 minute gap after that was cleared and our last two sushi rolls were brought out! Drinks from bar were also incredibly slow. Overall great food but the rest was disappointing this time. Two weeks ago i would have given Sunda an A plus all day long!
always fun and food is good with lots of choices for all
Excellent service and location. The food was delicious. If you want to go with kids they are not a menu for kids.
The food is always incredible and really appreciate the kind, courteous, professional service. We brought out of town guests this visit and they were really impressed.
Extremely noisy. People dining there were screaming at the top of their lungs. Good food.
Dined here last night for my fiancé’s birthday dinner after about a week of research (we were visiting from LA) and made reservations. We were super excited to try the food and experience the restaurant; however that quickly dissipated when we arrived - the hostess staff were unwelcoming, unfriendly, and our table was not ready. They were not even apologetic and didn’t offer us the option to get seated at the bar while waiting. Their tone of voices and faces looked miserable, which made me feel miserable for the 20 minute wait (again we had reservations - so what’s the point of making reservations for a special occasion??). Anyways the food was great and the wait staff awesome - the hostess staff could learn a lot from them, perhaps training them more on customer service and presentation since they are the initial face(s) of the restaurant.
Dinner was absolutely delicious and our service was outstanding.
3 of us had upset stomachs after the meal. The tuna did not taste fresh. This restaurant has gone way down hill over the years. I won’t go back
We went on a week night and it was busy by the time we left. We ordered the brussel sprouts (delicious), the chicken pot stickers (good) and the red dragon roll (good). The food was good but nothing too crazy to write home about. The staff made the experience- 10/10.
Amazing food, drinks and service.
Very noisy, could barely hear the person across the table. Perhaps the music was too loud which made people yell out causing even more cacophony. Food was mediocre to be honest….a desperate attempt at fusion. Finally, way to pricey all across the menu for what you get.
Left after waiting more than 20' for our waiter. Nobody greeted us at the table and we weren't even able to order our drinks. Very poor service.
They told us we dont have a reservation and then a couple minutes later said oh we have it. Asked them to write somethi g on the dessert but they brough the dessert without weiting on it. 2/3 sushi rolls were bland
My wife and I were not impressed with Sunda. It had been recommended to us by a few folks so we went but didn’t like it very much:
The good: The cocktails were interesting and tasted good. The oxtail pot stickers were delicious. Our waiter did a great job in a very busy atmosphere.
The bad: It was a lot louder than I expected. The background music was loud which caused the diners to all speak loudly. The lumpia was meh at best. I grew up in the Philippines and have had lumpia many times, so I’m a bit spoiled but these tasted like they just bought frozen lumpia, thawed them in the microwave, and put them on a plate. My wife, who is a huge szechuan chicken fan and had had some of the best in her life the afternoon before in Chinatown, and I both thought the szechuan chicken was ok at best. The pieces were not bite sized, so they were hard to eat with chopsticks, and the main flavors I got out of it were peanut butter and cumin. A lot of cumin.
The ugly: I never got the dish I ordered. Luckily my wife’s dish was big enough that we split it but after waiting 30 minutes for my meal, we just told the waiter we were done and asked for the check.
I would not recommend this place unless you want to impress anyone by spending a lot of money on “new Asian” cuisine.
We got seated 15 minutes after our reservations. Then waited another 20 minutes for a waiter. They forgot two meals and my friend didn’t get to eat until I was done eating dinner. Food was very average we got oxtail dumplings “spicy edamame” which was not spicy at all just burnt. Then we got garlic noodles which were cold unfortunately but the flavoring was average nothing special. We got the red dragon roll it was good but too much rice. And my friend waited 50 minutes for chicken pad Thai and it wasn’t even good unfortunately. Overall the aesthetic was very nice and great for a fun night but the service and food were just not it.
Went here for an anniversary dinner, and highly recommend! It's pricey but very worth it, especially for a special occasion. Pork belly steamed buns and oxtail potstickers (along with either of the crispy rice dishes) are MUSTS!
tasty. good server. fast serivce. good drinks. pretty place
Absolutely abysmal after being a fan for many years I wouldn’t go back if you paid me. Sat down and ordered then zippo. Yes they were busy but no food and the waiter was beyond useless, didn’t care and didn’t apologize. I complained to management and finally the food came, it was mediocre and not warm. Horrible experience, many more places to go in Chicago, save your money
Food ok. Drinks ok. All ok. But Chicago has better to offer.
Weekend getaway and everyone recommended we go we were extremely pleased . We are from LA and just moved to Michigan so really missing the Asian fusion food scene !
Reduced vegetarian options compared to my last visit which I had enjoyed so decided to return, service was slow and not value for money, pricey though expected better food and variety in return.
The meal was wonderful as was our granddaughter’s birthday celebration. For some reason we are always given the worst possible table even though we are frequent diners and had a rsvp. This time we insisted on a quieter location.
We enjoyed sushi and drinks. Drinks were amazing and we would definitely come again.
Waiters were nice and somewhat attentive. Food was salty mostly salty, not much innovative or variety for a fusion restaurant. Desert was average. For the price of the food, I would not return here.
Great experience and food. Music was a bit loud.
An overall incredible experience. Everything was SO good!
Always a great experience here, that’s why they have such a long run in the River North, a very competitive area for food and ambience
Everything was great. Just a little too loud.
I would definitely not eat here again.
Celebrated my husband’s 40th birthday with a few friends. They sat us in the perfect table towards the back which made it easier to talk given it is very loud in there! The food was amazing, the drinks were amazing. We will definitely be back.
It was so insanely loud we were screaming to hear each other
The server was so nice. The service was great and the food was delicious. We celebrated my mother’s birthday as well as had our first business dinner of the week. This was a great choice and I would definitely come back when we are in Chicago again.
La bebida espectacular martini de lichi los sushi no tan buenos
Waitress was very accommodating when we ordered something we didn’t end up liking. We appreciated this so much. Incredible food, fun vibe
Great food and atmosphere. We really enjoyed the Dragon Roll.
