Everything was great except we got sat in the outer edge of the restaurant which has much more sterile ambiance.
way too loud!!!!! please lower music to create for a better atmosphere
This is a great place to go for young adults. It's a hotspot for young corporate workers or college students looking for a fun time after hours. The food is delectable and Michelin guide recommended through 2016. Sunda was listed as best sushi in Chicago a year or so back and this definitely holds true.
Reservation was at 930, our group of 4 had a couple of drinks with our apps which were all great. We were told that the kitchen closed at 1015 and we needed to place our meal orders. No problem, got the oder in and got a nice bottle of wine. We finish desert about 11 and order and Uber...not more than 5 minutes later the manager tells us we have to go, the restaurant is closed. What a way to ruin a good experience...
rude. they tricked us into making a 9:30 reservation when they closed at 10. when i arrived at said time they told me that they were closing soon and to leave. absolutely disgraceful. me and my best friend were re-doing my golden birthday because on the actual day she got admitted to the hospital and i was left alone to rot in my emotions. will never go back.
Food was amazing. Our waiter was fantastic and helped us decide what we wanted most. We ate way too much! Great place!
Sunda has been a favorite of ours for a while. We have enjoyed meals there many times. We are understanding that after reopening, many restaurants have suffered with their service. Our server did well but it was not up to the usual Sunda standard. Our dishes were delivered but she never came back to tell us anything about the servings. In the past we were used to the server letting us know about the dish, mixing the fried rice together, and cautioning us about the hot and spicy sauces. We did not see our server often enough during our meal. I had indicated in our reservation that we were celebrating my son‘s birthday. That was forgotten all together.
Also, the restaurant is an incredibly loud. Be prepared for that if you have never been to Sunda. It really struck me this time as we were yelling at each other across the table.
Great dinner at Sunda. Had nigiri and appetizers.
Very loud though. So be prepared.
Amazing food. The Dim Sum was phenomenal. The sashimi was out of this world. Truly a wonderful place to dine. And this after our first impression was to leave... Great place to eat, but oddly, there is music blaring as you walk in the door and it feels more like a night club. Once you are seated the music fades into the background as is only loud by the front door and bar. Strange. But if I could make a suggestion, I would lose the music unless your typical clientele are people who don't like to talk. Just saying...
There was a hair in my food and my Brussels were burnt!
Incredible food and ambiance - can't wait to come back!
The music was so loud that we couldn’t have a conversation at our table.
The tables are pushed so close together in spots that it make customers uncomfortable. There were plenty of open tables available and I hate that they do this. Other than that, everything else was great.
We were celebrating my son’s 16th birthday.
Our server, Deana was attentive and knew the menu like the back of her hand. Top notch, friendly, fast, attentive service!
It is almost impossible to have a conversation without shouting. Acoustic is simply horrible.
Food and service was top notch - but it was way to loud. No way to converse without yelling.
Great food and excellent service
A friend suggested Sunda and she was spot on. The food was delicious and next time we are back in town we will totally go back!
Excellent customer service - our server was very attentive to our large table and we were never left waiting on anything!
Extremely understaffed. Service was terribly slow. Seated 15 min after reservation. Guests shared food allergy and it was ignored. Not sure if they were having an off night, but it has never been this bad before.
We are regular visitors to Chicago after living here for many years. We always make Sunda one of our must do’s on every trip. Unfortunately, last night was our last. Our server seemed not interested, rushed our order and the items came out “out of order” as a result we ordered too much food and the last dish was a noodle crab dish that tasted like pasta. Sadly, It was terrible.
Not bad for New Asian. Interesting mix of various Asian cuisines. I would go back to try different Asian dishes. Seating was pretty tight though,
My Wife and I were looking forward to a great Sushi meal. This wasn’t just a sushi place though! So much more. The sticky rice with Wagyu beef was one of the best things we had ever tasted. The atmosphere was lively, but not so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. The food was fresh, lively and just right! Can’t wait to go back and try more of everything. You won’t be disappointed.
We were on vacation in Chicago and Sunda was just a few steps away from our hotel. We wanted Asian cuisine so thought we try it. The food was ok, tasty for a twist on the Filipino dishes we ordered. Looked it up and sounds and looks pretty upscale.
The place is noisy.. the decor and ambiance would have been good but the noise level made it seem low class. You did not get to have the upscale experience despite the decor because the noise killed it.
It was amazing as always !
We came to Chicago for a birthday celebration. Sunda was fabulous. The food was amazing, especially the sashimi. Service was excellent. We will be back!
The pork belly bao buns were to die for. The “great white bite” escolar was alright at best. Gambler is very very very HOT, do not recommend but was funny to watch, I could never eat that by myself due to the level of spice. Good sake selection and great service overall. The place has such great ambiance
Sunda was recommended by a local for having the best sushi. We had an outstanding dinner and would definitely recommend it!
The service was okay. The bus boy and water guy was more attentive than the server. He left our empty drinks on the table every time he came by. Seems like they should be picked up right away especially at almost $20 each!
The food was good. First time there and would go back try other things. The inside area is much more appealing the the high top tables so I would recommend those.
Enjoyed the food but was curious as to why some things were not available such as the pinot grigio we would have liked and there being no potstickers available. Otherwise, what we had was delicious and we will return.
Service was excellent and it's a beautiful restaurant. Food and drinks were good, but not memorable.
The server that brought us the menu and told us would be our server decided to not come back for over 20 minutes! During this time we asked twice for our server as we were ready to order within 5 minutes of seating down ( after all we had seen the menu online!) His excuse was that he was told someone else would serve our table. I am not sure he told us the truth as he was told by the other servers when we asked if someone would take our order that we were ready to order. Food was not bad but overall experience due to bad server was mediocre. Very noisy to be able to have a conversation without raising my voice.
Sunda is always a great time. The food & drinks are delicious and the ambiance is nice. We had the Brussels sprouts, chicken wings, all 3 buns, rainbow role and the gambler. Gambler was way too spicy to enjoy but everything else was delicious! I highly recommend for a celebration or a dinner date.
We loved it. They can accommodate allergies (gluten & dairy).
Service was super attentive and friendly, host even said happy anniversary witch made my girlfriend very happy :)
We’ve been in Chicago 5 days, and our server was one of the best we’ve had so far. The restaurant was loud and we often had difficulty hearing each other. We had the Pad Thai, and it was just ok. It lacked peanut flavor (unless you ate one of the 4 peanuts in the dish), and it really didn’t have much sauce to it. If we had only had the pad Thai, I would not recommend this restaurant…luckily, we had two redeeming dishes with the pork belly dim sum and crispy rice wagyu, which were delicious.
Took my daughters here for an early dinner. Food was excellent! Worth the price. Service was A1 as well! Taking the wife back soon.
My wife and I was traveling to Chicago and wanted to find a great restaurant that has Asian food mixed with a modern twist. The experience and the food was outstanding. A+
