Sunbird Ratings and Reviews
It was a very disappointing night for us. We went to the Sunbird to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. We made a reservation, but it really wasn't needed, there was only one other table being used when we arrived at 6 pm and only 2 other tables before we left at 8 pm. We started with ordering a bottle of Prosecco (sparkling wine), but when it was finally brought, they said to not serve it yet, it wasn't cold. They brought an ice bucket to try and cool it down quicker, but slightly less than room temperature is the best it got, a waste of $32. Our server was obviously in training, but there was no trainer with him, so often he did not know what to do. We ordered the smoked trio and the prime rib. The smoked trio was two paper thin pieces of brisket smothered in BBQ sauce to try and hid the fact it was overcooked and tough. It was impossible to even taste the hint of brisket, might as well have guzzled BBQ sauce. The pulled pork was mostly tasteless. The Elk sausage was okay though. The prime rib was well done, really well done, on the outer rim (about and inch and a half in) the middle was raw, still red and cold; it was obvious they are cooking the prime rib on too high of heat. The aujus was barely warm so it did little to improve the meal. The whole night was a disappointment, from the wine, to the meal, to the ambiance. The view is very pretty, but then they had America's Funniest Videos playing on the televisions, simply destroying anything like ambiance and also not what you would expect for a 'mountain grill and tavern'. You can bet we'll not go back again, and we suggest you spend you hard earned money somewhere else that will at least make you feel like you get your money's worth!
My family and I came here for Brunch on Sunday. This was our first time coming here for brunch. We had the BEST experience. The food was delicious and offered a lot of variety. I was impressed with all of the seafood and the mimosas kept coming! I finished off an incredible meal with bananas foster. And the VIEWS....! We will be back for sure!!
The buffet was amazing and it was very quiet and relaxing. I'm not sure what is going on with the bathrooms though. The smell was horrible ! You could smell sewage when you walked in the front door...which was a real turn off and sad because that is a first impression and it could have totally ruined the whole experience but the food and service made up for it but it needs to be looked in to...
It was my first time here and I could not have asked for a better experience. The staff were very professional and kind, and their timing for service was good (not vacant, nor interrupting). The food was tasty. The atmosphere made for the perfect date; we will be back.
The restaurant is very tired and need updating. The restrooms smelled and the smell penetrated the entire area. The view was amazing but the food was not great. We had to send the appetizer back because it was so bad. The prices were not reflective of the quality.
Outstanding customer service!! Conner went above and beyond in every aspect of our visit! The food was delicious and served in a timely manner. Connor went out of his way to bring my mom A Slice of Cheesecake with happy birthday drizzled on the plate with strawberry sauce. It was definitely a night to remember, and we look forward to doing it again.
$75.00 for 2 people at brunch is a little steep, but the selection is pretty good. Need to put some type of seasoning on their cold shrimp, crab legs, and mussels, they tasted bland (cooked in water then stored in water took out almost all flavor). May be time for winter cleaning (large spider webs in the corners of the upper window and no it was not a Halloween decoration).
The waitresses are awesome every time we come here. The food selection is decent and the atmosphere is positive. We are always seated on the bar side. I am not sure if this is because the brunch side is used for bigger parties.
If you are hungry and can eat ALOT, the Sunday brunch is definitely worth the money. The views are good and the staff is exceptional!
It was my daughter's birthday I wanted a special night and was severely upset!!! Food was terrible the waitress said " sometimes we just get a bad cut if meat" WHAT!!! NEVER GO THERE it cost me $150.00 for 3 people... I will tell everyone I know how bad the experience was!!!
We took my son here for his 18th birthday, my husband and I had been here before -we enjoyed it. Well for this trip to put it lightly it was horrible!! Resturant didn't appear to have a full house, the bar was slightly full although not packed. Our drinks from the bar took 10-15 min just to arrive at our table, the poor waiter kept apologizing for the bartender. Our food took between 50-60 min to receive, waiter apologized again many times. After my friend ordered another drink it took forever for them to let her know they were out of that type. I felt bad for my son, here it was his bday and we had spent almost 2 hrs waiting to get out! There was a wedding party present, but I know from experience that you staff accordingly for such events and that shouldn't impact the rest of the place especially for a Friday night. I would not recommend this place to anyone unles you want to sit in the bar -it seemed to be a little busier than the rest of the place.
We were very disappointed. Had a tough time getting someone to take the reservation. Said they were full but the place was empty. Marriott was finally able to get us in at 8, when we wanted earlier, and they acted like they didn't even know we were coming. Load undisapplined kids didn't help. We were expecting white table cloths like pictured on line. Location has great possibilities but not the atmosphere we were expecting at all. Very, very casual to the extent that it felt like a board table with no class at all.
The only thing that made our evening manageable was our server. None of our issues were his fault. Took 45 minutes to get our appetizer which was luke warm, and then another 30 mins for our main course which also wasn't anything to brag about. They served the adults behind use kids plastic cups for their drinks because "they couldn't find a clean glass". The whole experience was poor and we won't be going back. You know it's bad when they comp 3 of your items and offer you a free dessert which we declined anyways.
My family and I went to the Sunbird anticipating great food, considering the average price. I ordered the brisket sandwich, my wife ordered the pueblo chicken, and my son ordered the trout. The brisket on my sandwich was very dry and not very tasty. My wife's chicken was good. My son's trout plate was AMAZING! Point being there ought to be some consistency there. You are asked to pay way too much money to receive mediocre food.
Sorry, Sunbird, you're no longer on our list. We liked going there sometimes to celebrate special occasions, and invited visiting family to go there and celebrate my wife's birthday. As soon as we arrived I knew the place had changed- two letters were missing from the big Sunbird sign at the entrance and one of the gates across the road was swinging freely. The restaurant itself was in no better shape. Don't know if they've change owners within the last couple of years but maintenance was clearly lacking. We ordered drinks and were told the fountain machines were not working at the moment, so sodas and mixers were not available. Over the course of the evening, the problem was fixed to some extent but the drinks were still relatively flat. The food was not up to the standard we were used to at Sunbird. The only thing there that did not go down was the price. We were rather ashamed to have built the place up in the minds of our guests. We won't be back.
I had the Sunday Brunch at the Sunbird and I found it to be way over priced for what was served. I did like that you could order from a menu, but the eggs benedict had a hard poached egg - definitely not what I expected. I would not go back or recommend it to a friend.
On the positive side, it did have a lovely view, the parking was easy, and the service was friendly.
Beautiful setting overlooking Colorado Springs. We sat outdoors with fire pits and cozy seating arrangements. A great place to relax. Our waiter never made us feel rushed! We had drinks, a delicious appetizer and entrees. The brisket was maybe the best I've ever had! A lovely after dinner touch....a tray of s'more fixins and long Skewers for holding over the fire! Can't get more comforting than that!! Not sure what the bad reviews were all about?? We had a wonderful evening!!! GO!!
The "view" was of I-25!, My highly recommended NY strip ordered medium rare came medium well and obvious poor cut of meat. Asked for double veggies instead of potato , got no potatoe and the worst asparagus ever, one portion. Skip this place, does not belong on the open table list of restaurants in the Springs, wishe I never came!
My table of 8 were all disappointed that no bread was brought out, just crackers it you have salad. (Strange) But our young handsome waiter was very nice in delivering this news. Salmon Bourbon was just ok, where as the same dish that I had two weeks ago was much tastier and moist.
Great place for Sunday brunch. You serve yourself, which includes serving your own coffee, so it is hard to judge the service, but the wait person was pleasant.
Order the omelets and eggs benedict, because they cook them fresh for you, and they are wonderful. I love eggs poached hard and these are perfect.
Bacon. Okay, so the whole buffet is wonderful, but the bacon is amazing. Perfectly cooked and just the right thickness. I will return just for the bacon.
