Horrible experience and food. No wonder they went out of business.
Purchased a gift card for my father-in-law for Christmas and later found out they were closing their doors February 5. We barely got a reservation and settled for 4 o’clock dinner on Sunday. They were out of several food items, the appetizers were cold, the waitstaff was inexperienced and flustered by the lack of food available. I understand they are closing and are running their food supplies down. However, had I known they were closing when I went to purchase the gift I would not have done it. It was irresponsible of the owners not to give more notice or put a disclaimer on their website. I wasted $160 on terrible food, and a tip. I would have rather spent my time with my 85 year old father-in-law doing something worthwhile. Hopefully, someone will purchase the Sunbird and turn it into something special. It has so much potential.
So sorry to hear that the Sunbird will be closing 5 Feb 18. We've been going here since early '80's. It's one of the best Sunday brunches in town. We're losing an iconic Colo Spgs restaurant.
The location and view are the best in town. The food was just OK. The service was good but could have been better.
Location was great, but the food was way over cooked.
This was our first time visiting SUNBIRD and we are sad to see it be our last. After hearing the news that this location was closing, we immediately reserved our table and how wonderful that it was my husbands birthday. The location of this restaurant is incredible!! The views are amazing and the food was delicious!! We even had an opportunity to stroll outside on the patio by the fire.
Whatever comes into this location next has big shoes to fill after the memories SUNBIRD has given us.
Excellent all around,Definitely will Return and invite all Friends.
We only saw the waitress once, to take out order. She never came back. Neither did any food. We left after an hour.
We had a very good dining experience with my parents. Paul was very good and he did a great job
The Sunbird used to be an exclusive fine dining restaurant, but has declined over the many years that it has been in business into now being called just a "grill", but it still retains its charm because of its lovely view of Colorado Springs, especially at night. The wait staff is great, as is the food, although they need to work on cleaning the restroom more often, and add some marketing to get people to rediscover the place again. Overall a great experience!
The service was terrible!! We spent $150 on two people to dine and we had to ask another waiter who was not ours for more water and to see a wine list. We didn’t get our glass of wine until half way through our main course. So we just had water through appetizers and salad course. The food was awful. It was cold. Would never go here again. Scenery is beautiful tho. Sad the restaurant can’t meet expectations.
We had NYE dinner at the Sunbird. It was a set menu with enough choices still to pick from. Service was very good and food was good. Cozy, Colorado feel and nice overlook of part of the city.
My husband and I needed somewhere to eat on Christmas day and were delighted
with the choice in foods in the buffet. We had a window seat and a beautiful view.
The help were friendly and helpful. We have been once before so will continue to
go to the Sunbird when we are in town.
Really enjoyed the Christmas brunch. Our waitress was excellent. Food was great.
Wonderful Christmas Buffet. Lots of variety, delicious food & great staff. Thank you for a lovely time.
This is one of the worst dining experiences we've had in several years. The Sunbird has lowered its standards to the point of no return. Cheap gallons of orange juice were on the bar, the bartender was also our waitress, we were seated right in the sun next to a huge broken window, it was a hike through two rooms to get to the buffet, which looked and tasted like it was reheated leftover microwave food, and to top it all off, we had to wait for plates to be brought to the buffet. Whoever is running the place is not even trying. This restaurant used to be one of the go-to places in Colorado Springs. Now it is just a total joke.
Sunday brunch is diverse and abundant. service is always friendly and genuine.
The food was very iffy. The Prime Rib was very bad but the Lamb, Brisket, and Chicken were very good.
Expected a little more in the way of Christmas decorating
The service was exceptional. She was very very good
The dining room was not very busy and the music was up so loud it made it very difficult to talk over. Several of the people with us had hearing aids that were rendered useless because they could not get past the music.
The view is exceptional but it just didn't work out to be the experience we were looking for in a restaurant
Excellent Sunday brunch. Great food variety including shrimp, crab legs & prime rib. Only downside was the server did not clear dirty dishes from table.
Very nice place for a brunch with a group. Yippy can relax and the view is amazing. The food was great and lots of choices. Banana fosters was awesome
Requested that it was for my graduation and nothing was even said
Was really excited to take my staff for a Christmas Party. Food was terrible. Every single steak was burned on the outside and rare on the inside. The lighting was so bright inside it dis not show off the spectacular views outside. The waiter was. Nice and very friendly.
The food was decent and, of course, you can't beat the view. But the wait for our entrees (nobody at our table ordered appetizers) was at least 40-45 minutes after ordering. For a Tuesday night and the dining room was only 1/4 full at best, this was not acceptable.
It was a nice time to celebrate an early anniversary.
Waitress was a mess, couldn’t get the orders right on drinks or food. Food has gone downhill over the past 20 years.
The steak was hard, the service was terrible, and it was cold. Overall a waste of money and time.
I remember the Sunbird being THE go to place for a nice, romantic dinner. Many years ago I dined here and was appalled at how horrible the place had gotten and I swore I would never go there again. Since my husband had never been, I thought I would check to see if new management had turned this place around since my last encounter. Apparently it had, so we gave it a shot. Overall the ambiance seems okay ( the decor seems disjointed and not well thought out), but the city view does redeem the Sunbird here. The menu has changed from a higher end (although poorly executed) selection to a more casual dining offering. The food was actually pretty good and the service was adequate (but nothing to write home about). The cost was reasonable, so we felt the value was pretty good. The bathrooms however, were absolutely disgusting. The smell made me think they hadn’t been cleaned since the 90s. My husband confirmed that the men’s room smelled just as bad. Overall, I’d put the experience on par with Applebee’s or Chili’s, but with an exceptional view
I had not been there sense my 1975 prom date. My wife had said she always wanted to eat there, so quietly I made reservations and did not tell her or the kids where we were going on her birthday. You guys made me look good, she and the kids were blown away with the whole experience. The service was great and the food was very good. Thank you, we'll be back (not wait 42 years) Jerry Good owner of Williams log cabin furniture in Woodland park
Chicken Marsella terrible chicken was dried and chewy
Fantastic with a great view!
We went for the Thanksgiving Buffet. Really delicious and would highly recommend.
Fantastic buffet for Thanksgiving.
The entire experience was enjoyable and then the "live" (canned) music began. With the amount of talented musicians in the area, I was surprised that a solo guitarist needed canned bass & drums to get through a song.
My wife and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years and finally made it in for our anniversary. The first thing we noticed was the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. Must be from days if old but it smelled like we were in Vegas. We both had the calamari app and were pleased. We also both were in the prime rib mood and everything on the plate was pretty tasty. Food wise we weren't disappointed. Our server was good at her job and that's half the battle anymore to a good experience. The view was excellent and we watched the sun set over the mountain range. We were given a slice of cheesecake as a gift to celebrate our marriage. Quite unexpected. Lastly, we both used the restroom before leaving and we were glad we waited til after dinner. They were sticky and not very nicely kept. They badly need a makeover and a cleaning. Smelled pretty bad.
Unfortunately for us, we decided it won't be on our short list of places to revisit anytime soon although we won't rule out another try some time down the road.
Been there many times and it is always great. I've recommended to many friends and family.
The parking lot was super dark. The view was great! The waiter was slow and just didn't seem to want anything to do with us really. My chicken was overcooked & so was my friends sirloin. The drinks were pricy for the size. The restroom was disgusting. The sewer needs maintenance badly, the smell was horrible.
It was a very disappointing night for us. We went to the Sunbird to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. We made a reservation, but it really wasn't needed, there was only one other table being used when we arrived at 6 pm and only 2 other tables before we left at 8 pm. We started with ordering a bottle of Prosecco (sparkling wine), but when it was finally brought, they said to not serve it yet, it wasn't cold. They brought an ice bucket to try and cool it down quicker, but slightly less than room temperature is the best it got, a waste of $32. Our server was obviously in training, but there was no trainer with him, so often he did not know what to do. We ordered the smoked trio and the prime rib. The smoked trio was two paper thin pieces of brisket smothered in BBQ sauce to try and hid the fact it was overcooked and tough. It was impossible to even taste the hint of brisket, might as well have guzzled BBQ sauce. The pulled pork was mostly tasteless. The Elk sausage was okay though. The prime rib was well done, really well done, on the outer rim (about and inch and a half in) the middle was raw, still red and cold; it was obvious they are cooking the prime rib on too high of heat. The aujus was barely warm so it did little to improve the meal. The whole night was a disappointment, from the wine, to the meal, to the ambiance. The view is very pretty, but then they had America's Funniest Videos playing on the televisions, simply destroying anything like ambiance and also not what you would expect for a 'mountain grill and tavern'. You can bet we'll not go back again, and we suggest you spend you hard earned money somewhere else that will at least make you feel like you get your money's worth!
Sunday brunch was awesome! We will be back for sure!
My family and I came here for Brunch on Sunday. This was our first time coming here for brunch. We had the BEST experience. The food was delicious and offered a lot of variety. I was impressed with all of the seafood and the mimosas kept coming! I finished off an incredible meal with bananas foster. And the VIEWS....! We will be back for sure!!
Loved the view and had very friendly service. Food tasted delicious with several gluten free options.
