We had a wonderful dinner at Summit House last night. This was our second visit. I honestly don’t understand the bad yelp reviews since the service was beyond reproach. Everyone from the ladies at the check-in desk to the bartenders and wait staff were so nice, efficient, and accommodating. We arrived early to have a drink at the fully occupied bar. The bartender came over quickly despite it being a busy night and gave us a cocktail menu. She followed up in a few minutes to take our order and promptly made our drinks. I had the spritz, which was the perfect start to our evening. The food was excellent. We started with a plate of the cured duck with a kumquat preserve which gave a perfectly needed brightness to the decadently rich duck. The duck itself was reminiscent of pata negra, one of my favorite hams from Spain. For our appetizers, we each had the salmon tartare. It was delicate yet well prepared with attention to taste and texture. The kohlrabi slices accented the fish very well. I followed this with the pork chop which was served with black eyed peas, pineapple, and red cabbage. The flavors were spot on with a nice acidity to balance the rich flavors of the pork. My fiancé had the scallops which were expertly cooked. He finished them before I could have more than a small bite.
Our bill for our drinks and dinner, tax and tip was a very reasonable $180. We would have paid much much more in Manhattan. All in all, we had a wonderful evening that we can’t wait to repeat again soon.
Great service and food. Had a great experience!
Outstanding Service! Our server couldn't have been more knowledgeable and a pleasure!
Our server was amazing, cocktails were spot on and food delicious.
First time eating at the Summit House. Menu had excellent choices. Both my wife and I had fish and it was extremely fresh and exceptionally prepared. Our server Erik was excellent and well informed about the selections. It will be on our list of local resturants.
Met a friend for dinner there on a Wednesday. Promptly seated, and we were part of the first round of diners for dinner. After we took our time perusing the menu, and after ordering cocktails, and 2 appetizers, the crowd had grown in the restaurant and it was hard to place our main dish orders with the waitress. After getting her attention, we decided to only split one dish due to the enlarged dinner crowd.
Overall: the cocktails were delish!, the hummus app and charcuterie were only so so. I’ve had a Devine carrot hummus at the Jockey Hollow in Morris Town which did not compare to this one with shaved carrots atop. The deserts could have been better- the blood orange pound cake was dry and crumbled making me think it was prepared in advance and sat. The crepe that my friend order was different and ok. We did not finish either desert, considering we split one pasta dish which was light and flavorful but only warm as if it was sitting under a heat lamp instead of being freshly prepared.
Not sure about this place. I checked the menu online to see a ‘sample menu’ but when we arrived it was the exact same menu online. Nothing new or different.
Might give it another try in the distant future.
It has been challenging to get a reservation to Summit House since it opened. We were happy to be able to get in to celebrate my husband's birthday. We found the decor, the ambiance to be very pleasing, relaxing . We were seated close to the kitchen and though at first I thought it would be too noisy - it really wasn't. (Though I think I'll ask for a table away from the kitchen next time - just for more quiet). The food was well presented and very tasty. The bread came out warm with a slighty salted and warm butter - yum! (we asked for seconds). My husband and I had the duck which was delicious and "just right" in terms of quantity and flavor. Our sons had the burger and one of the pasta dishes - they enjoyed both - especially the pasta dish which had new flavors for our son who was hoping to try something out of his comfort zone. The burger and fries were good though that son would have prefered just plain - no onions. We had been told that there were creative drinks at Summit House - we didn't try any at this dinner though. We instead opted for a glass of red wine each - normally we would have shared a bottle but the prices were too high. The service was good with the servers knowledgeable about the food and the philosophy of the chef. We actually ran into a friend too - it was nice to see local youth working at the restaurant. Overall it was a great experience though the prices will prevent us from making it a "regular" place to dine.
Great service, drinks, and food. Nice space but loud. Expensive but worth while.
Salmon tartare could've used more seasoning but was excellent quality. Roast beef sandwich was delicious. Trendy, upscale atmosphere. Fabulously decorated bathrooms.
Bartender was amazing and so chatty! Plus she made great drinks. Loved that they split the shared apps without even being asked to. Fresh and creative food
Food, atmosphere, and service were impeccable. A bit pricey for the area, but worth it for a special occasion.
Delicious ‼️I will definitely be back soon.
The food was just ok for the price we expected more. Also the acoustics are terrible. It’s very loud.
It was a delicious meal just too loud. It started to clear out and hit do my wife and I could talk without yelling
This was our first time at Summit House. Great food, well cooked, well presented and a fair variety to accommodate preferences. Waiters were very nice and knowledgable of the menu, specials and every dish - as well as the cocktail menu. The place was crowded, tables are close to each other, making privacy a challenge which was offset by a more or less loud crowd. Overall we enjoyed the food much more than many other restaurants in the area. We will sure be back!
We met for lunch and really enjoyed the food--we had the beet soup and the chicken liver pate and salad topped with their scallops. No complaints—the food was excellent. The service was not of the same caliber as the food. We had to make two requests twice before they were fulfilled. We were seated in the back and it was a bit too noisy. I absolutely love the decor.
Food was good just not as great as the hype.
The hummus and the chocolate pudding dessert were the stand outs. The oysters were chewy - would not recommend.
I had the steak - it was good not great.
A friend had scallops and another salmon- both good not great.
Valentine’s dinner. Delicious!
Great vibe. Great food. Great bar to hang at and specialized mixologist. Service impeccable.
We went for an early dinner as we have been following the restaurant on Instagram. We were pleasantly surprised with our food options and the service was great. Could be loud by the bar so request the back room for a quieter experience. Definitely coming back.
Amazing food and wine. Server tried to rush us but we wouldn’t let him! Would highly recommend and go back!
Randomly chose this spot for brunch and couldn’t have been happier with it! Planning on going back for dinner soon.
Restaurant was very nice inside, although very noisy as well. Tables were very close and service was average at best. We went here for our anniversary but it wasn't very romantic. Food was very good. Overall I would say good but not great.
Food was no as good as in previous visits. Pretty average
Easily one of the better places in Summit. All the staff were attentive but not obtrusive. Bar tender provided a tasting measure of a couple of wines to help chose one. Food was nicely prepared and presented. No hesitation to recommend.
Aesthetically, Summit House is very pleasing. Our server was exceptional. She knew the menu well, both bar and food, and made excellent recommendations. Unfortunately, my meat (pork) was over cooked and very tough. My friend enjoyed the Griggstown chicken. I would try the restaurant again, if it were not for the deafening noise level. We sat in the front. Perhaps, the back room can better absorb sound.
The dinner was delicious. The food and wine service was better than usual but there was a lengthy gap between appetizers and main course.
Delicious food that was creative and housed in a lovely rustic style restaurant.
Had a fantastic girls' night out. Amazing cocktails, creative salads, delicious food. Fun, chic bar scene in front of restaurant to linger after dinner. Great quieter dining in back of restaurant with open kitchen view. We'll definitely be back.
Family dinner. Lovely restaurant. Staff super friendly & food delicious!
The brunch is a treat here. We have been twice . It is a little pricey, but the ambiance is lovely and food selections are tasty. Dinner was not as impressive. I thought the appetizers were stellar, but my main course, a pasta dish was just ok. Everybody else in our group seemed pleased with their entree. The service is very pleasant from the hostesses to the servers. And they did a beautiful job renovating the space.
Service was very slow. Dinner and apps were good.
Avoid tables adjacent to the bar during crowded times. Bar patrons and people trying to exit the restaurant will bump your table with regularity. A flawed design to not have a railing or some other physical delineation between the bar area and the dining room.
Wine list is aggressively priced - no bargains found and a $20 bottle is offered at $50.
Notwithstanding these complaints, the menu is a good one and the food excellent.
Made Reservation For my son's 18th birthday and 10 of his friends. Called ahead to set up reservation, payment and reviewed that it was a group of High School students from Oratory Prep . Very helpful. However my son said waiter was not as polite at beginning of service. After he realized that Son and group of friends were respectable and mature young men, my Son said service improved. Young men had great evening out and had opportunity to enjoy a wonderful meal on own. They loved the Oysters and Chicken Livers!
The Summit House is usually hit or miss, and this night was unfortunately, a miss. For an expensive meal, the restaurant was chaotic with so-so food and terrible service. Diners need to know that it is really loud in the dining room where the bar is located. We waited 20 minutes to be seated after we arrived for our reservation. The drinks from the bar (while we waited) were the highlight of the evening. Once seated, I requested a diet coke from our waiter. After 15 minutes, I asked for the diet coke again. And again. It finally arrived after the 3rd request. The salads arrived in a timely manner. I didn't like my baby kale salad but my husband liked his salad. Thirty minutes after being seated, we had finished our first round of drinks and no bread had been served. No waiter in sight after 10 more minutes passed, I got up and went to the bar to order more drinks for us. Eventually, back at our table, I flagged down a random waitress and asked for another diet coke and "is there bread tonight?" You get the picture. Our meal arrived and my chicken was tasty but husband described his hamburger as " just OK". We ordered a piece of cake (also "OK") and cappuccinos for dessert. The dessert arrived but no cappuccinos. We asked where they were, and we were told "soon". Eventually, ~ 15 minutes later (when we had already finished what we wanted of the cake), the cappuccinos arrived. The waiter told us that he was "wearing our cappuccinos" which we took to mean that the first set of coffees had spilled on him - which, like our evening at Summit House, was a bummer for all of us. We won't be returning soon.
Food very good. Frequent changes in menu keeps things interesting each time we go. Very vibrant scene. Service is consistently not up to par with the level of restaurant they are trying to be. Very slow service and not attentive. This has been consistent after many visits. They should really up their game with regards to service.
As far as noise level, the right options are not listed in the survey - the noise level is too loud. I believe the small rooms which hold several tables attribute to the noise level while making it hard to have table conversation.
Went there on a Friday night, 7:45pm seating for 2. Wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with the Friday night crowd. Some confusion on table had my wife and I waiting to be seated with many open tables in view. Menu seemed somewhat limited, all in. Drinks were good as were apps. Perhaps a cocktail and small bite place next time. Entrees didn’t seem to live up to expectations or cost. Will be back for another shot, perhaps with a different seasonal menu.
Went there for our anniversary. Restaurant wasn’t busy when we arrived. Got busy shortly thereafter. Service was great and attentive but slid a bit as it got more crowded and our meal progressed. Didn’t feel like we were totally ignored. Just not as attentive as when we arrived.
Food was well prepared and presented. Drinks, including wines are at New York City prices. Certainly high by Summit NJ standards and cocktails and two glasses of wine each added substantially to the bill.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience but I would probably save a return trip for another special occasion.
Delicious food, perfect ambiance for an important business meal.
