I had the hake and it was delicious! The key lime pie and indian pudding were also very good
Calamari arrived tepid and a lot of the coating had fallen off. Very disappointing.
Lobster roll was just fair and I thought the lobster was overcooked
the bun was barely butted and toasted. My friends had swordfish kabobs which they liked
Tuna ahi poke was excellent, and Cobb salad.
We love the Summer Shack
All was good
Food was excellent & I celebrated my BD
We frequent the Summer Shack often and were a bit surprised and disappointed with the quality of the food on New Year’s Eve. We were a party of six and ordered 3 orders of the grilled clam appetizer and the clams came out somewhat on the raw side, cold and doused with the garlic sauce. We ordered a large fried clams platter and the dish was mostly french fries. The monkfish was buried in rice. I’m hoping that this was all due to the kitchen staff being overly busy. I will think twice about coming back.
For what they charge for food I thought it was going to be delicious and give decent portions. I was deceived, the food wasn't that great. The service wasn't that good either. I wasted 70 dollars on low quality seafood.
We had a lovely meal! We miss Sal!!
Usually enjoy going here but on this evening, Christmas Eve, the service was very poor and the food preparation was sloppy. Items were served lukewarm and the ingredient proportions were off.
Great food and excellent service even though the place was full
Lots of good seafood, but very poor serving special diets.
Summer Shack is a very good seafood restaurant and is very conveniently located with ample parking. It is very close to the Alewife T station. We use it as a a meeting point for friends coming from several directions . Add to that the fact that the food is excellent and the service is good and friendly and we are frequent visitors.
My husband and I went for an early (5:30pm) dinner on a Saturday. The restaurant had many families with young children, just as we expected. As parents of three now-teenagers, we know the challenges of taking kids to restaurants first-hand. However, there were kids running around the entire restaurant, jumping up and down the small staircase, playing hide and seek, cutting corners and physically bumping into us. The parents are to blame, but if the restaurant doesn't tell the neglectful parents that the children will get hurt and shouldn't run around, they should seat diners without children in a totally different section. There certainly were many other tables available.
And the waiter was nowhere to be found - had to get another one to tab us out.
The food was terrific! We had grilled shrimp and a whole sea bass. Everything was cooked to perfection and the sauces were wonderfully flavorful. However, I was surprised that in 2019, the waitperson had seemingly not been briefed on which foods contain gluten, and apparently did not know that soy sauce contains gluten. Service was good; however, although the restaurant was almost empty, no one ever came to refill our water glasses or ask us if we needed anything. Finally, some of the prices were a bit shocking--for example, lobsters in the $50s! The decor was just right for the space, and the Tiki-Head-turned-Fisherman's-Head outside the front door was a delightful nod to Aku-Aku, a Polynesian restaurant that occupied the same space in the last two decades of the previous century. Overall, a fun experience. We would come back!
Grilled Tuna dish good but not very nice looking, presented in a pile. Waldorf salad mostly apples.
Bathrooms very cold , toilet seats freezing.
Good...food...but little noisy
My go-to place for lobsters ... both the pan seared and baked stuffed are outstanding. Also great oyster selection. I had the South Bay Blondes. Friendly service and an energetic atmosphere. Nice to have a good Cambridge restaurant with a sizable parking lot. :-)
Usually great. But a whole fish was not cooked through. We sent it back, and by the time it was replaced in 25 minutes, the other two diners were finished with their meals.
All good though the shrimp scampi was a little bland.
The restaurant is nice, the menu looks good, but unfortunately the food is not good at all - will not go back.
Had the chowder and that was very good. Also had the fish tacos and there were totally boring.
Excellent food. Friendly and efficient service. Another plus: they sent our extra food home in eco-friendly containers. No styrofoam.
As always, Summer Shack offered us a great meal with excellent service! Everyone was friendly and helpful (a waiter we had on our last visit remembered I liked one of the desserts and made sure he told me and had one saved - and he wasn’t even our waiter on this visit! THAT is service!). And the visit with the lobsters for our grandson is always a highlight. We will return again soon.
Great loud, fun, Friday night vibe. I have loved every meal here, every piece of seafood has been fresh, flavorful, and cooked or prepared perfectly. I appreciate every effort made by the staff to accommodate celiac/gluten free options.
Food not as good as previous visits. Also felt like we were being rushed throughout meal. Not happy.
Dined here with a group of six. It's easily accessible by walking from the Alewife T stop, and it was far less crowded that other restaurants we visited around Boston and Cambridge. It's a reasonably priced restaurant with tasty food and good drinks.
We have been to this place any times but in the past few months the food quality has substantially declined. Also, there were interesting things on the menu that disappeared. Now, the menu is just ordinary! This is unfortunate.
It was ok the staff could be more attentive
The food undercook and the wings were dry
Summer Shack in Cambridge is one of our favorite restaurants and our "go to" place to celebrate birthdays. The food is always delicious!
I don’t want to go back. At dinner recently, the two people who got lobsters did not feel they were prepared correctly. I tasted one of the lobsters along with a scallop and someone else’s French fries because she left most of them. I love French fries but only ate 3. I did not get enough of a taste to confirm
The last few times I eaten here, I’ve been dissatisfied. Lots of people seem to love the place and it has received many awards so I think it’s best to decide for yourself.
The service was very nice and the atmosphere was fun. Two of our three seafood dinners were excellent. The third one (halibut), however, was seriously overcooked, totally dry, and very hard to cut even with a knife - it was amazing that they would serve something that poorly prepared at a seafood restaurant. We asked for a burger as a replacement, cooked "medium", on the theory that it was hard to mess up a burger. The burger, when it arrived, was tasty, hot and cooked on the outside, but on the inside it was nearly raw. We ate it anyway - the others in our party were done...
Server was excellent service excellent
We love the fried Chicken but tonight’s meal was super salty. And chose Mac and shells which were watery and not so good. My wife had fried potatoes wedges that were over cooked. Fish and chips for one daughter were good. Shrimp for other daughter the sides were very watery.
This is the spot to go for seafood in Northern Cambridge. Close to the T with a full bar, it also has some interesting items on the menu that you won't find at other seafood restaurants. Good portions, cooked well !! Our server was attentive and very efficient.
Everything was great! Perfect place for seafood lovers.
I took my 11 year old daughter out for dinner and we had an amazing time! Our waitress was Elizabeth and she was awesome. Very attentive and personable. We didn't have to wait long for our food and it was all really good. We'll definitely be coming back soon!
Loved the food we ordered for brunch, especially the lobster Benedict! Huge portions for the $$
Very expensive for what you get in food. Lobster is twice the cost of other venues.
Good food - pricey - server was going through the motions.
Excellent food and service - great way to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday.
