If you're going to spend a lot of money on seafood. There are many better ones in the surrounding area. Service was slow, food was okay.
It was very busy but everything was timely and efficient The food was awesome We never felt rushed It was a nice way to celebrate our friends birthday
Great food and excellent service, as always. Thanks to Sal and everyone at Summer Shack!
I went here for my birthday and my overal experience was unforgettable! This was my first time here however, service was incredible and so helpful! The food was absolutely an eye-sight and delicious. I would 10/10 recommend to a friend!!!
Great food; relatively high prices. Noisy.
Jasmine (I think) was our waitress
Steamers were not hot but they replaced them
No key lime pie which the birthday woman wanted but took pecan which was delicious
A lovely meal
Very busy and hectic for Mother’s Day. Food delicious. Somewhat overpriced. Service a little harried.
Excellent restaurant, we keep going back. This occasion was a graduation meal for 15 people . Great space for large groups.
Great raw bar - super fresh oysters!
Surprised to find no brunch dishes on Mother's Day brunch menu, but food was tasty and casual atmosphere good for small kids (they loved touching a lobster at the tank)
We haven’t been to Summer Shack for several months and enjoyed a better than expected experience. This restaurant has always been better than good but our recent dinner definitely fell into the great category.
The long-overdue onset of warm weather inspired my husband and me to try Summer Shack for the first time. We had a great dinner. Our waiter Ken was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive and engaging without hovering. The soft shell crab appetizer was great, served on top of a light and flavorful summer salad. I splurged on Jasper’s pan-roasted lobster and was not disappointed. Lobster can often taste bland and feel overpriced, but this was delicious and worth every penny. My husband had the snow crab legs and sirloin, which were also very good. We didn’t need dessert but tried the key lime pie anyway, also delicious. We both enjoyed the ambience as well: intimately dark but not can’t-read-the-menu dark with awesome 60s classics playing. Definitely recommend!
Great casual spot. Service was very good. Food was great.
Delicious food!!!! The calamari was was cooked just right. The strawberry rhubarb pie was the best that I ever have had. The waitress was friendly and attentive to our needs. Will dine there again.
Summer Shack is a terrific restaurant, probably one of the best, for seafood. Food is well prepared, tasty, and portion sizes are appropriate.
We particularly enjoy Sal. He request Sal whenever we make reservations. He knows us, what we like, and how best to meet our needs.
I only wish they had GUMBO more frequently...
Overpriced for mediocre food. Recommend that you be unadventurous and get only the fried stuff.
All 11 of us had a fantastic time, dining for hours and closed the place down. Multi-generational family gathering with such nice host and waitress treatment. And the lobsters! Wood-grilled, pan-roasted, wok seared - couldn't have been better - a huge success.
We've been going to the Shack since it opening around 18 years ago and it NEVER disappoints.
Excellent food and service. We really appreciated being seated at our table immediately even though our group members arrived at different times. We were getting together from a number of faraway places so it was nice to be able to order a beer and talk while we waited for our whole group to arrive. Thanks, Summer Shack!
New item on permanent menu: oysters Rockefeller, used to be great dish—now disgusting (Think undercooked) but for whatever reason still inedible.
Too expensive. A 1.5 lb lobster has gone from $38 or so to $58. A lobster wok $60!
My first time here, great experience. Service was quick, for was fresh, well prepared, well plated and delicious. Very friendly staff. Overall terrific experience.
Another nice experience- this time with in-laws in tow. Appreciate that staff remembers former customers and makes them feel at home!
My husband, daughters and I have been to the Summer Shack in Cambridge (near Alewife T station) a number of times, most recently for a late lunch on Easter. We really enjoy Summer Shack because the seafood quality is excellent, and the restaurant atmosphere casual but very nice, and it's very large, so we always find it easy to get a table. The restaurant is very open, kind of like a warehouse (I think it's the old Joyce Chen restaurant space), with a big lobster pool in the middle. We ordered fried scallops, lobster roll, Asian style fried calamari appetizer, and an egg/bacon/chorizo brunch plate (brunch was a special menu for Easter). The scallops were excellent, as was the lobster and the brunch plate. The fried calamari itself was also excellent, but the Asian sauce on it was too salty. At about $25 for fried scallops with fries and $30 for a CT style lobster roll with fries, I wished the seafood portions were a bit bigger or the price was a bit lower, but they were certainly delicious and filling, and I would order them again! We tend to visit the Summer Shack about once a year, and we will definitely go back!
I have been to Summer Shack many time in the past, this was a first for Easter Brunch. A good selection of items to choose from, good service and always top notch quality food. All of the staff , even if they didn't wait on us, is very friendly. I even received a greeting from the kitchen staff as we were leaving.
When a place offers a 1-pound boiled lobster for $30 (with no sides!), you know you are going to get hosed. Immediate turn off.
My friend and I both ordered the shrimp and scallop skewer w/kale salad. Although our meals were tasty, the portions were quite small for the price.
It was a fun atmosphere, and I loved the mai-tai served in a Buddha!
It was good but not worth the money to me.
Has a shore vacation feel with blue gingham check tablecloths and picnic tables in some areas. Fish and seafood was fresh and tasty. Stuffed flounder and steamed lobster were both great choices. Our waitress was excellent, super well-informed about their dishes. Great for a group with a fun, casual, lively atmosphere.
My family came here for a pre-Easter dinner. My mom wanted affordable seafood. We needed a place that could seat 5 comfortably with minimal notice. The free parking is a perk. The food was really good. The service was outstanding. The prices were right. I'll go again.
Summer Shack may be known for its great oysters, but we made the mistake of ordering from the Boston Dine Out Week dinner menu on our first visit. The point of this review: the food that we received was NOT worth the price ($33 for appetizer, main course, dessert). The Fried Scallops entree was basically a bed of french fries with 7-8 tiny scallops on top (the "side of fries" turned out to be 90% of the plate). The seafood boil was mediocre at best, with shriveled and over-salted lobster tails and shrimp. That being said, Summer Shack has a very relaxed ambience that accomodates families with kids or larger parties, and could be good if you're looking for less fancy seafood options in the Boston area. Just don't order from the Dine Out Week dinner menu.
Just ok.... nothing special. Drinks were good and strong
worse service ever. menu is so confused sure wont come back to this place we was here for my wife is birthday the server dint even offer a menu for dessert she dint even come back to check on us after drop the food taste of food is not bad but service is super bad
Came here for a combination of my birthday and restaurant week. Food was awful, and the service was mediocre at best.
Had some friends visiting from Germany, spent the day on Cape Ann and wanted a casual seafood restaurant- none more fitting the bill than Summer Shack!
Food was cold when it arrived on our table and the waiter was inattentive and not helpful.
Great seafood and fun atmosphere. It felt like we were on vacation at the beach!
Service was awesome. All our food items arrived quickly and were delicious.
Always very good food and relaxed, casual atmosphere. We like to go for lunch because it is a little less expensive and there is no problem getting a table.
Good food, good beer, good service. Fun energetic atmosphere.
