Summer Shack Ratings and Reviews
All three of us enjoyed our meals. Ceviche was very good. Nice balance with lime and cilantro. Clam chowder was outstanding. Light on the cream. Main courses were also outstanding. Lobster roll, swordfish and scallops. I liked the casual vibe and the price point was fantastic.
A bit pricey. I had a 2 lb. lobster for $64, it was delicious. Cracked perfectly. My Husband ordered a lobster roll for $24.95. It was very disappointing in size and the roll was rock hard. We came from the Seaport area and I am sure we could have found something equally as good.
Stopped in before a concert at Fenway. I usually get the pan-roasted lobster at both local locations but tried the jumbo Canadian snow crabs this time. And the Boston cream pie. Great choices, great service. The only noticeable oddity was the music in the ladies room- louder than being in a club. Couldn't even hear each other talk at the sink. Mentioned to the hostess upon leaving that the restroom was in need of service and louder music. Just bizarre.
Have been to this restaurant several times, as well as to its sister restaurant in Cambridge. This was the first time I had a terrible meal. Lobster was overcooked and dry, corn was overcooked and mushy, and tollhouse pie was undercooked and improperly prepared. I will certainly think twice about going again.
We met another couple at the Boston Dalton St location for a late lunch on Saturday. We were seated immediately but it took a while for the server to take our drink order. Once taken, he served them promptly and answered all questions regarding best meal options. Drinks were good. While off-peak and only 1/2 full, we all noted that the noise level was much louder than expected from the meager number of customers. It took a long time for the meals to arrive, but the clam chowder (GF) was excellent, as were the various seafood dishes we ordered. (BTW - To the Open Table web designer: for Noise level designation, you really should consider replacing the euphemistic label "Energetic" with something like a Bose headphones icon. Seriously.)
We had a party of 6 people on a Friday night; we read the reviews and were excited but unfortunately the service really put us off. One of the six meals never showed up or sides we ordered and we got one water refill the whole night. The food we did receive was tasty (steamers, lobster pot stickers, the special lobster was delicious, standard steamed lobster was good too). Overall would probably not go back because of the service unfortunately.
Great spot & our server was excellent. She initially asked if we were seeing the Sox double header which made us nervous as we though perhaps the game time had changed. She immediately checked & validated it was only one game & apologized. Excellent service throughout the meal.
Convenient, quality restaurant near convention center and the Sheraton. The pan-fried lobster specialty is excellent. The steamers were excellent as well. Quality food, very fast drink service (!) in a casual atmosphere. The only slight negative is that the lobster prices are pretty steep ($70 for a 2-pounder) considering the cost of lobster is roughly $6.99/lb in today's market.
The general atmosphere is about what you would expect from a Boston fish-themed restaurant. The service was very good. Unfortunately the quality of the food was sub-par...blackened swordfish tacos were a huge disappointment with the fish cut in minuscule cubes and despite the blackening spices, the dreaded fishy flavor rendered the meal inedible. The signature lobster dish was okay...but way overpriced for what it is. Overall it was a disappointing experience, way over priced (emphasis added!), and I won't be returning.
Came for the lobster options, and got a fairly good deal by getting two. The problem was that this lobster had not been cleaned out at all. If they had cracked it in half and cleaned it out, I would not have had waste in my food. The smell and sight of the waste made me not only not want to eat, but physically ill. One of the more disgusting dining experiences I have had in a long time. I would go to Legal Sea Food instead where they clean out the lobster before serving. Price is close to the same and service is better.
My son wanted to have more seafood before going off to college. So we decided to try out Summer Shack for lunch. He tried out raw oyster for the first time and he loved it. We were there during dine out Boston with my parents. We ordered 3 fish entree and one beef and shrimp entree. All were great and fresh. Dessert (Indian pudding) was delicious.
Came here on 8/10 for DineOut Boston, but when we got there, they said they had ended it the night before (wasn't too happy about that). However, the food and service were good. Ordered the tuna, which was a bit overdone but my partner had the monkfish, which was delicious. Would go back again, but I am trying other seafood places first.
We were looking to impress friends with children who were staying at one of the nearby hotels. I hadn't been to this Summer Shack in years but knew it was kid friendly. It's loud with half a dozen TVs and dim - quite perfect for kid antics. Most importantly, the food here was outstanding (I honestly wasn't expecting this especially for a chain). They serve a perfect fried chicken, and a mean lobster roll. Instead of fries, choose the homemade potato chips - delicious. Plates were cleaned and our party left happy.
We were visiting Boston for a few days and Summer Shack was recommended to us by our hotel. Food was excellent and creative. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the shrimp and scallops. If you are looking for seafood that is different this is the place. The sides were not your typical french fries and cole slaw.
The only downside was it was crowded and my chair got bumped into several times as people walked by. It was very noisy also but with the size of the crowd we expected that level of noise.
