Summer Shack Ratings and Reviews
This was my second visit to the Summer Shack. I went out on a limb and got something totally different - a fabulous salad and possibly the best fried chicken I ever had in my life! We preceded this with a dozen oysters (Spear Point and Blue Point) which were also perfect...and we are picky because my husband has shucked oysters for a living.
Everyone in the family loved it! My college-aged daughter had the skewered shrimp and scallops...
I love this place because it feels like a party - and a good ole New England summer feast!
Glad we found this gem during our recent visit to Boston! Excellent food and service! Corn bread, oysters were excellent as starters. My son had lobster and husband swordfish, both were beyond delicious! I’m not a fish eater so I had a burger, it was okay. Not a lot of choices for those who don’t eat fish; however, I hear the fried chicken is delicious!
We were expecting a "local" type place and were slightly disappointed to see that it had more of a "chain" feel. That being said, the food was very good and came out fast. Our waitress was perfectly nice, but not the most outgoing. However, the host (I think he may have been the manager as well) was outstanding! He checked in with us several times, chatted with us about our travels, and allowed our kids to hold one of the live lobsters from the tanks. Overall it was a very nice experience.
Restaurant half empty, but service was slow. My order was not correct. When I returned it, it took forever to come back and still not right. In addition, the salmon was so over cooked, that it was barely edible. Others in the party ordered fish tacos that came with very little fish
Went with a few old business associates for early lunch. Located directly across from Sheraton Hotel and Haynes Convention Center, it’s convenient. Atmosphere is good once you get past the industrial-looking entrance. Food selection is good, lots of fresh seafood options, and pricing is reasonable for this Back-Bay neighborhood. Our server was courteous and helped make my meal selection even better value. I would return here when in the area.
A great spot for dinner before a concert at Berklee Performance Center. The seafood dishes are well thought out and they let you substitute sides, if that is your choice. There are options like fried chicken and steak for those who do not want seafood. This is one of the better seafood restaurants in Boston, run by an excellent chef who uses fresh, seasonal ingredients and should not be considered a tourist trap.
We had a great night at Summer Shack.. food outstanding.. lobsters, chowder, and oysters to boot all top notch! Service was also great, Sam and the team really looked after us and we’ll be sure to cook up some chowder when we get home to Australia! Thanks so much for the cook book! Do yourself a favour check out this place it’s excellent!!
Brought my family here for an early dinner and this is one of the worst places to eat lobster in Boston. The meat of the lobster was very tough and rubbery. We struggled chewing it. Had to cut it in small pieces to make it easier to chew. We’re from a culture that’s used to consuming a lot of seafood in our diet and we know what’ good and what’s not. The Manager or owner (perhaps) asked us after how the food was and we told her the truth but didn’t even offer any discount despite our dissatisfaction. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are far better ones in the city and in the harbor.
The bartenders were attentive and provided quality drinks and timely delivery of some snacks. We then went to our table, where our waiter was knowledgeable about the food and wines available. All of our beverages were delicious and reasonably priced, and the food was prepared beautifully. Furthermore, the food was deliciously, bordering on succulent. We left nothing behind. I had not been in some time and am questioning my life choices as to why I do not go more often.
The food was great which will keep me coming back as I am local. However, our server Mike was extremely unprofessional. It was the worst service I have ever been subjected too. My cousins were visiting from North Carolina and were very taken aback by his unprofessionalism as well.
