We were looking for “porchetta” an italian dish rather difficult to execute at home: Well, what I got was an overcooked piece of flabby pork that probably was kept in the fridge for weeks, some sort of bbq sauce on top, lots of carrots and polenta. Honestly, I didn’t understand; they spent a lot of money in that place looking great but the “main dish” was terrible. They even have a pork statue with the word “porchetta” when you enter! My wife’s fish had too much oil around and was overcooked as well. Why open a restaurant and not even do mediocre food but really bad one? stay away!
One of the very best Italian restaurants I have ever visited. Everything was fresh and the portions were large. Arancici was amazing, and the porchetta was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Very attentive waitstaff. Service was top-notch, atmosphere was great, and the food was absolutely delicious.
First time dining here. Loved it. Food was very good but the fish was just a tad dry. Atmosphere was also great. Only complaint was that there were some small children that the parents were letting run around the restaurant. I was worried that one of the waiters would run into them.
Our server Roosevelt was great
Pizza and salad were impressive. Service was attentive.
One of my favorite places. I am here twice or more a month. Hate the music, though. Why does a restaurant need music anyway?
Food was great and there was a festive atmosphere . Very nice staff! It was busy so two things were a miss for out table - no bread with our cheese board because it was baking. It finally came and some people in our party were waiting to enjoy it with the cheese but our entrees came at the same time. A third of our cheese was never eaten. Secondly, one person ordered a hot tea after dinner and it was never brought. It was not on the bill but still, it would have been nice to enjoy. Otherwise a great time.
Food was super mediocre, bland. The area seemed like a business district - nothing else cute around the restaurant. Definitely should have gone to the North end instead!
The atmosphere and decor were nice and service was good but the food was very average. The pasta carbonara dish had little flavor and was disappointing.
The restaurant is really beautiful, but the food wasn't great. The salad was fine-- though nothing special. But the linguine and clams was truly just not good. Not sure if the clams were bad-- but the entire dish was briny and tasted "off." The desserts-- the Joey Bag o donuts and the apple crostata were ok-- but both very small. In general the portions were surprisingly small. The cappuccino was lukewarm which was very disappointing.
The service was sincere but several they made several mistakes on our order which they apologized for and tried to make right. But the service gaps combined with the off food-- was disappointing.
Food & drink were wonderful! David the bartender was attentive, provided great service and killed it behind the bar. He was the only bartender on that night and was able to get drinks for all the patrons and service bar. Keep up the good work!
My friend and I split an appetizer and a pizza. Both were very good, and it was a good amount of food for lunch.
I had been very pleased with Sulmona in the past. But I think they overbooked this time. The food came out very fast and our server seemed eager to have us decide and order quickly. We were there 1.5 hours and then our server abruptly informed us the manager needed us to leave. I ended this business meal curbside.
Delicious food, friendly attentive service, fun atmosphere
One of the best burgers in town
Loved it! Will be back!
Everything was perfect as always. The special Arancini were amazing and the wait staff
Service was great. Ordered Cheese Platter and it has a great variety of cheeses with a side of fig compote. Pasta with red sauce was great. Abruzi Pizza rocked. The Carbonara was unimpressive and lacked flavor and personality.
Consistently delivers a very good meal and great value.
Great service and professional, yet friendly, atmosphere.
Food and ambiance were great, but service was slow and not particularly friendly. Hostess was lovely though!
I'd recommend it as a convenient place to eat in a busy part of town. The food is undistinguished and there is something amiss with seating. On a personal note, I dislike being seated at a suboptimal table when better, empty tables are plainly visible nearby. This has happened twice at Sulmona.
Service too slow t
Everything was fantastic. All ways great service and great food. We are happy that this restaurant is in our neighborhood!
The food was terrible — no flavor, bland. The noise level was a bit much but the venue itself is beautiful. I would suggest eating here but I’m sure its an okay place to enjoy a drink.
The octopus appetizer was excellent.
Some of the food was inedible and had to be sent back. We also saw a mouse crawling around the restaurant.
Unfortunately the food standard has dropped significantly. Service was good and manager was kind enough to remove an overly fried artichoke from our check. Hopefully it’s just an off night.
My partner and I ordered two salads and the charcuterie board, and both were quite pedestrian in preparation and presentation. Service was prompt and adequate. Drinks were generous and well crafted. However, I had made a reservation much earlier in the day, had a phone call confirming the reservation, and then was informed on arrival that a large group was going to be occupying most(?) of the dining room, and that we had about an hour before they arrived. We were given the option of sitting on the “patio”, which we did, but it all seemed a little weird and unprofessional.
There are too many other options in the area that would probably provide a better informal dining experience.
I don’t think I will be returning, nor would I recommend Sulmona to friends.
It is way too loud. The food is good, but the prices are high. There is better food at better prices in the area.
Great Caesar salad with Salmon
We went to Sulmona on a very rainy Monday evening, so it was close to empty. Hence the noise level was low. The food was very good. My husband had the spaghetti ala chitarra which he hadn't had since his Italian mother made it for him. He pronounced it "excellent." I had the Boar ragu and liked it a lot. Our server was new, but very sweet and attentive.
Excellent food, great spot to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Cool decor, tasty (and a little pricey) menu. Cheers to both our server and the kitchen who worked around my seafood allergy and cooked a few things separately so I could enjoy them. That really took this place from great to excellent.
Half of our group loved everything, half loved the food and general ambience but were thrown off by the trains, rattling below us, dining with us. I was with the half that thought it added to the atmosphere and was a great addition.
Inside is amazing, but sitting outside it can feel like you’re sitting above a steam engine the entire time because the mbta vent is right under neath you. Every time the train passes you have to stop talking because you can’t hear anything.
We visited the restaurant with a group for dinner. The restaurant's service was outstanding. They were more than eager to help us select the wine and gave us as many tastings as we asked for. The food came out promptly and the server kept an eye on our needs. I am not sure if it is because the restaurant was relatively empty or if that is the level of service to expect from them? We were a group of seven and were able to find a table on a Saturday evening by reserving it just a couple of hours earlier.
I am not sure if the availability of the table was a tell tale sign, however, the food and their wine selection wasn't that great. We ordered a bunch of different items and all of them were mediocre to slightly better than that. Nothing to write home about. I found both my pizza and the beet salad to be very salty. There were a reasonable number of wines on the menu but none that appealed to us. Overall an a-ok experience. Most likely will not return.
The food was really good but it was soured by the service we received when we arrived. I had a reservation for table of 9 but when we got there, they had nothing on file. I showed them the opentable reservation and the host/manager said all he said was that have nothing listed. So we showed him that clearly there’s an issue if I have a confirmation and they have nothing. He didn’t even offer to help us until we asked if there was anything available. They insisted that they had a party of 10 that had a reservation and we would be bumping them but seated us anyways. They made us feel very unwanted. If I didn’t have a big group with me, I would have left.
After being seated, I checked my email and saw that I received the points for the open table reservation ten minutes before I arrived. My thoughts are they mixed up the reservations and made us feel like the idiots. Otherwise I wouldn’t have received the points if no one checked. I just hated feeling like we were unwanted and felt like we kept getting dirty looks from the host/manager.
Overall the food was good but they need work on their customer service. If you’re going to be a host/manager, you need to at least pretend to care.
the quality of the food here is simply amazing!!! the service is wonderful but please ask for Roosevelt as your server. he is a natural! we enjoyed our evening immensely!
