Sugo Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
I'm conflicted. You see, i'd recommend the place, but my review is not stellar.
We were a large party, and the management way over sat our server. She had a table of 10 and a table of 5 when we were sat, and a table of 7 came in after us and was given to her as well.
I asked how many mushroom truffle ravioli were in an order, and the server said 3 or 4. there were two. Not good for sharing apps - and those two cost 12 dollars.
The meatball appetizer was delicious (again over priced, IMHO), but it came out 20 minutes after the other apps. And all the apps for the table didn't come out together. The server meticulously wrote seat numbers down (as we were likely to split the check as is common with larger groups...) but the people who brought out the food seemed clueless.
After the appetizer debacle (I think I was still waiting on my meatball) I mentioned the service attentiveness to the server - this is when I learned how badly the "over seating" situation her management had created was - and I think she mentioned my displeasure and concerns it to management, because they did comp my meatball, and they did pay a bit more attention to the table - providing our birthday guest with free desert as well. But it took over 40 minutes for our mains to come out - after the apps! We had an 8:15 reservation, had our apps order in before 9, and the restaurant was closed when we had our desert... (Google says we left at 11:27!)
SO - Go. See for yourself. Know that the food is well prepared. Know that it's at the high end of price/portion, especially for Italian food. BUT - do NOT go on a weekend with a party larger than 4, even if you have a reservation. And expect your dining experience to take .... a while...
Always a pleasure eating at Sugo. My husband and I have been frequenting the restaurant for years and our experience is always top notch. The food is excellent, the ambiance is great and I always leave knowing we will be back again soon! I often find myself craving certain menu items. Thanks again for a great night!
The food was amazing. We were a table of 8. Seating was tight, tucked in the back. We were first assigned a waiter and then we were reassigned to a more experienced waitress. Our service was slow and not all the meals within the course were served simultaneously. She apologized for the slow service several times, particularly getting our checks. Overall, we enjoyed our evening and the food was delicious, but service and ambiance should have been better.
Mr. C is also present and attentive. Server was very polite and attentive as well. Food is usually always on par. I ordered the scallops which were very tasty but they were served on some kind of flat pasta and tomatoes that were cold and not flavorful. My husband ordered the braciole which is always good. I would not order the scallops again unless I could substitute the rest of the meal. $28 is a lot for 4 scallops on a bed of cold, tasteless pasta. We will return for the rest of the menu. The cappuccino was cold and had to be reordered as well.
My Italian family said the meatballs were the best ever. (Did I mention that my mom's maiden name is Rao?). The service was UNMATCHED. Our waitress was charming and the owner came to our table (5 adults, 2 kids and 2 18 year olds) THREE TIMES to make sure that we had everything we needed. On a Saturday night. With hundreds of folks in and out - he made is feel like we were the only ones in the place. I am pretty sure we ate a bakery's worth of the bread - it was delish. I had the fish of the day with the most amazing pumpkin ravioli. We are a VERY tough crew - vegan, no onion, extra onion, paleo - we got high maintainance covered - they were impeccable. Cant wait to go back! Did I mention that the owner is so cute and so proud of how they prepare food and where they source it from - we were enchanted before we ate a bite.
PS: We are not big drinkers but the tray of drinks that went to the table next to us looked amazing. Cant wait to go back SOON!
A gem right here in the Johns Creek neighborhood. The food is exceptional. I recently decided to go 100% vegetarian plant base foods only. I was surprised by the options available for my taste of foods. In addition, there was equally fair variations of good food available for my wife who is not vegetarian. We both enjoyed our selections. You must try the Zucchini Spaghetti.
We had a fantastic time, it was the perfect place for an early valentines dinner. The deep fried mushroom risotto was appetizer was amazing. The beet salad was sinfully good. My dates barramundi was perfect melt in your mouth delicious. My eggplant parmigiana was good, but the eggplant was cut a bit thick and tasted a bit on the raw side. Finally the tiramisu was hands down the best I've ever eaten.
Sugo is on our regular list. Love the food and the atmosphere. Mr C. is always ready with a good story about the history of the restaurant or a particular dish. Ask Sam to make you one of her special cocktails. Highly recommend Sugo for special occasions as well as an everyday treat!
We love this place. Every time we go we are just amazed by the food and the atmosphere. We have brought our daughter (now 10 months old) every time we go and we never feel like we are shunned for doing so. They are very accommodating and the service is stellar. If you have a special day coming up for anything, you need to try them out. You can tell with every bite that your dish is made with love and real, honest ingredients. Always a winner!
Great restaurant for our friends’ get together. The owners were visibly present and made certain to check on their guests. Enough menu items to satisfy diverse tastes of a large group, but not too many to cause confusion. Appetizers were a bit small for the price. Ambience and service were great. Been there before and will go again.
What a great restaurant! We went there this past weekend for the first time. I was celebrating a birthday and the restaurant went out of their way to make me feel special. I had put in the notes that we wanted a quiet table, needed a gluten free menu and that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived it was very busy, they took us immediately to our table. It was a table tucked in the corner of a smaller, more private room. There was a birthday card on the table with signatures of all of the staff and the gluten free menu on top of the regular menus. This place did not miss a detail and all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. My Italian father was very happy with the food and made several comments that this was the best Italian food he has had since moving to Georgia. They took special care with the various allergies at the table. No issues with gluten cross-contamination. We will definitely be back soon!
I’ve been here before. Sat near the door which makes you keep your coat on as it constantly opening and closing in 30 degree weather. The food is just OK. The ambiance is nice and the wine is good. The owner is friendly and makes the experience more pleasant even if the food is just average.
I have wanted to try this restaurant for years. Used it for a birthday for my wife. Booked a reservation via Open Table and checked the birthday box. We were greeted with Happy Birthday, presented a card signed by all the staff and given a birthday cannoli. The dinner was terrific. I had egg parmesan. I can honestly say it was the best I have had. Now, I like mine a bit crunchy on the outside and they were perfect. The difference was that they were thick (nearly half an inch thick). Not like what you find in a chain restaurant. I was particularly enjoyed the grilled zucchini, peppers and mushrooms. It was a delightful dinner and I would get it again despite a great menu. My wife had Aunt Lena's chicken which I liked to a parmesan chicken. She is a picky eater and enjoyed it completely. We had the sherbert and the cannaloni for dessert. Every employee was polite and friendly. Our waiter was very friendly and polite and helpful with menu items. We arrived early on a Thursday so there were not a lot of people. The place is beautiful and the decor very interesting. The owner and his wife stopped by several times to ask if we needed anything. They have a delightful bar. They can accomodate large groups and meetings and I would recommend this location for an lovely group dinner. If your boss is well healed, suggest it for your next meeting. I would highly recommend it and will come back on a weekend to see how they perform in a more busy timeslot. Great place. Try it.
First, our table was the closest to the front door. As wait area became crowded, those waiting were also hanging outside of the entrance. Thus causing the door to be open more frequently and allowing for the cold air to move into the restaurant and, naturally, my wife and I as the first seated victim of the "cold front."
Second, my wife's salmon tasted as if it belong on a cold salad. She left half of it and did not want to take the rest home. I told her to say something but she does not like to complain. As for my dinner, I had the chicken and enjoyed it.
Finally, I know "Sugo" translates into sugar, but found your red sauce for the meatball appetizer to be extremely sweet for my Italian tastebuds.
I’ve been to Sugo several times on dates with my wife and have really enjoyed it. The service this time was exceptional and the staff was very friendly. I was there with my daughter for a special event and they made the evening amazing even accommodating a tight timeframe for us to get to the event. Sugo has always been a great experience for us.
