I was not impressed with how the restaurant is handling the Covid-19 physical distancing, particularly in the bar area. Absolutely no 6 ft physical distancing at all. Of course, no masks at the bar, but they could at least attempt to separate strangers from each other. the food was OK. My wife’s short ribs were fatty and came with a huge bone. I get the bone, but the quality of the ribs wasn’t good. My scallops were very good, as was the creamed corn that. came with it. The one other thing is that some of the hosts wore their masks correctly, others didn’t (nose uncovered). I would recommend this restaurant to a friend, with the above mentioned comments.
So glad their back, the square was not the same without them. Chef Flores and Heman nailed it. They have managed to carve a nice little niche that will be formidable for years to come. Must Tries: Country Grammar, Basil Gimlet, Poodle Skirt and Bee Sting. Herman is a gentle giant, who loves loving on people. Glad to see he brought back so many of his old school cocktails. They also have a great steak program featuring the 32 ounce Texas Wagyu Ribeye for $132. Not too bad a price!
Food was excellently prepared; my compliments to the chef. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Overall great experience.
The food and service was great
Had good service. Food was mediocre. Their namesake Sugarbacon appetizer was dry and tough. The crawfish pot pie was like something from the grocery freezer. Bland. Wife liked her shrimp and grits. The desert was so sweet it made our teeth hurt. Overall, it was way overpriced. Probably won’t be back.
Excellent service. Stephen went above and beyond. Really enjoyed the brussels sprouts and the spaghetti squash hush puppies. Nice wine and beer selection. Will return. Great outdoor patio. Hoping for live music some day.

We went on Father’s Day. There was a special menu for Father’s Day and there was obviously a lot of confusion among the staff about the specials.
The food was not delivered to our table at the same time (about a 10 min difference between our plates and my son’s plate).

So EXCITED Sugarbacon is back in downtown McKinney with new owners and some old favorite dishes as well as new favorites!! Was there a week ago for a couple late night drinks with friends at the bar and decided to have family dinner there last night for an early Father’s Day meal. On both occasions the staff was SO friendly and attentive. Shout out to Mike, Benji and Kuch!! Drinks were on point and food was great!
Last night we chose the sugar bacon for an appetizer and loved the updated plate of nice thick slices of “sugarbacon”and watermelon. They complimented each other very well. We tried some different items this time including the short rib, crawfish pot pie and chicken sandwich. The wonderful char on the short rib only enhanced the flavor of the delicious, moist meat that just fell off the bone. WONDERFUL!! The crawfish pot pie was amazing on its own with a light flaky crust, plenty of crawfish and a slight kick but the CORNBREAD OH the Cornbread!!!! It stole the show! I love cornbread and have made and tried it many places but this grilled sweet melt in your mouth cornbread was to die for. And I love that they have 3 decent sized pieces with the pot pie. We were all fighting over it. This pot pie is original and will no doubt be a favorite for many. The chicken sandwich was HUGE and while there are many fried chicken sandwiches around, this is one was tender juicy with a delicious breading that we’ll be back for!!!
