Sugar Factory - Meatpacking District
Always a great time, the drinks are a hit. But the menus have changed since the last time we were there and are now impossible to read as the font is microscopic. No prices on there for drinks (!!) and the dining room was absolutely freezing. But our server was terrific and food was good.
Excellent Food! No wait time. Waiter was good. Daughter said it was the best burger she ever had!!
The food was very good surprisingly. I thought I wouldn’t because it’s a what you might call a tourist attraction restaurant. We went to 2 PM noise level was very low. The server was very sweet and funny and on top of her game. My only concern was the person who actually brought out the food was unsure what went where. We had a food allergy at the table. We all ordered the same food, burgers, four of us, with slight modifications. The person who brought out the food was unsure of what food plate was the allergy free dish and he said don’t worry. He originally placed the wrong dish in front of her. That was a problem. At this point the server came over took away the food went to the kitchen came out assuring us 100% that the dish was being served did not contain the food that the girl at the table was allergic to. Again our server on top of her game! Everything was great because of her!
It took almost 1 hour for the food. The salads were terrible and missing ingredients. It’s totally a place for families w/kids who care about desserts, not food.
I took my daughter and her best friend for lunch. What a great time and experience. They loved it!
Left after sitting for 25 minutes without anyone coming over to us! When we walked in, 2 people were at the desk complaining about how long they waited for service so we were worried...were sat upstairs and waited 25 minutes before anyone came over- left a few bucks for the waiter who brought us our menus and got out of there! Such poor service considering we were a party of 8 ready to eat! I refuse to pay primo prices for a place so understaffed!
The food (excluding deserts) was lousy. My kids couldn’t even eat their grilled cheese. The deserts were fabulous, and VERY overpriced. But you mainly go for the photo op, right? Go elsewhere for your main meal, and just go there for desert.
The waiter Henry was slow and inattentive to the party, the host did not have a table ready and the reservation was made months in advance and they could not seat us. The waiter did not inform us that he charged the gratuity to our check already so in addition to the gratuity we also tipped him generously because we were not informed it was added and this waiter Henry did not deserve the tip he got because he was terrible!
Good experience, good food. Price was quite a bit higher than expected, given lack of clarity on special drink prices for the kids.
We had a nice time at Sugar Factory. The only issue was the server, although very nice, she was not very attentive. We received our ice cream sandwiches and they melted as we waited for spoons. I actually went to the bartender to ask for them and he was the one who got the spoons for us.
The food was good with a nice ambiance. The waitress was not attentive and we needed to continuously ask other staff to assist us.
service horrible & music so loud could not hear anyone speak.
service was really bad. almost as if teenagers were running the restaurant.
its all about the instagram milkshakes. kids loved them.
Restaurant seemed to be in need of some deep cleaning. Food was ok. Some was bland some too salty. Drinks and milkshake were fun. Bathroom in the basement as main floor was out of order. It smelled like pot coming back up the stairs and an employee was spraying room spray. Drinks were fun, milkshake was good, food mediocre. A one and done, don’t care to go back.
Awlful service!! No silverware, napkins. Food cold and my nephews food never came.
I was extremely disappointed in my visit to The Sugar Factory. First, there was stuff floating in my glass of water. When I went to drink a different glass from my table, there was stuff floating in that one as well. The server was sweet, but the service was slow and they weren’t that busy. My biggest problem was when I went to pay with a gift card that was given to us, they told me they no longer used that system and couldn’t accept my $100 gift card. They told me to contact Open Table to try and get the money back. They weren’t willing to help at all.
My daughter begged us to take her to the Sugar Factory in the Meatpacking District in NYC and what a disaster!
Location seemed dirty, menus were sticky and falling apart so not the best first impression.
Ordered our meal after sitting for 15 minutes and I ordered a Bud Light which took an additional 15 minutes to get the bottle (no glass) from the bar to the table 20ft away.
Ordered the signature multi-color sliders but requested "plain with just cheese, no sauce, onions or other toppings" and told the waitress my kids won't eat them if they have anything on them. Sure enough they come out and I eat one with sauce (I don't care) but 2 of my kids take one bite and put them down. They took them off the bill but how does that help my kids did not eat!
Ordered 4 of the signature shakes, 2 of them were the incorrect shakes, person who delivered them said he would be back in a few minutes with the correct shakes. 20 minutes later we are sitting at the table and finally get up, leave and go downstairs to pay the bill and complain to the manager.
Manager took the shakes off the bill but again how does that really help 2 of my 4 kids didn't get their shakes, imagine how well that went over!
Poor cleanliness, poor service, insufficient staffing and poor management period and nothing is a bargain $40 for the signature mixed drinks and $20 for a shake! I will not be going back!
Absolutely fabulous! Waiter was great! I had my bday dinner there and would definitely go back !
Server was the only thing that was great. We sat in what we called the dungeon. Whole place was filthy, poor lighting, obnoxiously loud music. The decor, or lack thereof, was nothing like we expected. The bathrooms were not labelled men or women. I assumed they were all single unisex stalls like the one I went in. I sent a 9 y/o girl in the last stall which I later learned was actually a mens bathroom with multiple urinals. Could have been a worse situation if I hadn't stopped a waiter from entering while she was in there. He was understanding about the situation and waited patiently. Food was fine. Ordered apps and a steak. Definitely reccomended getting apps or burgers over steaks.Deserts looked great but could have been a lot better. Milshakes were room temp. Baked goods were stale.
The staff was very professional and composed considering the crowds of guests waiting to be seated because there was no silverware. Tables were sticky. Many many offerings on the menu were not available which led to a disappointing experience.
All in all the experience was meh. I guess it's good for "out-of-towners"...and children who don't really have discriminating taste (or who don't care about spending $25 for a milkshake)... but it really doesn't feel like a New York restaurant to me -- it's kind of trashy and 100% designed for social media. Beyond that it's kind of like Willy Wonka's cheap and trashy step-sister had an idea that she wanted to do what her brother did... and failed miserably.
Had a 1pm reservation and were not seated until 1:45; supposedly due to a spilled drink but later told they were waiting on silverware?! Ordered and was told I must have been given an old menu as "that" was no longer on the menu.
I've worked in enough restaurants to know how to take care of customers and Sugar Factory simply does not care. No apology or "let me take care of .." was offered. Money hungry place that never expects you to return...and we won't! Even the kids didn't have a good time. Sad
My friend and I had an absolutely horrible experience at Sugar Factory. We had both looked at their menu online, but many of the items were not on the menu we were given at the restaurant. When we found an item that sounded good, strawberry cream cheese filled French toast, the waitress said they didn't have that anymore. Not that they ran out, they just didn't 't make it anymore. They need to figure out this menu thing. So we ordered something else and waited 50 minutes for it. It wasn't until we told the waitress that we were leaving that she brought it. Not even complimentary coffee after all that. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!
kitchen was way behind and it took an hour for the food to come out.
We waited an hour for food, which was served cold.
Staff was largely powerless and indifferent, except for one manager who was obnoxious, and the server who was suffering from the impacts of poor management.
Honestly, everything was terrible. Despite having a reservation, there was a wait to be seated.....even though the restaurant wasn’t that crowded. Then we waited almost two hours for our food only to finally be told that they didn’t have what my oldest niece ordered and that the waffle iron was broken so I couldn’t get the chicken and waffles that I ordered. My youngest niece (the birthday girl) was at least able to get her food. Unfortunately, that meant the rest of us just sat there waiting for her to finish eating so we could go. They didn’t even offer to comp our meal. We went there for a birthday brunch and it was just terrible. And we weren’t the only ones having a crappy experience; the tables on either side of us were also fed up with waiting for food and having to make last minute order changes due to things being out of stock, etc.
It was amazing
Went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday... wasn’t my first time at that location but my server was just beyond attentive and excellent oh and he has a nice voice too 😊 Thank you for the wonderful service Jeremiah I’ll come back just so you could sing happy birthday to me!!
Food and service was amazing like always.
Our server was wonderful the food and drinks were amazing it's just a little pricey if your an average person trying to enjoy an amazing experience.
The service wasn’t even subpar, it was more like non-existent. EXTREMELY OVER PRICED and DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT. The restaurant is close to the water so the area is already extremely cold and I’m fairly certain the heat wasn’t working. It was very uncomfortable. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PLANS TO EVER RETURN. Oh and they charged me for something they never gave me, so make sure you check your bill thoroughly and one of my milkshakes, was supposed to come with a DONUT & CUPCAKE and they didn’t give us the cupcake! It was a MESS. HATED IT! DO NOT RECOMMEND!
The food was ok , and the drinks were amazing . Friendly staff and great setting .
Everything was great except waiting on our food and drinks oh and it was super cold where we were seated other than that we definitely enjoyed our meal .
I loved the food, kid friendly and everyone was nice. I didn’t like that it was so cold, had to wear our jackets inside.
Thank you Sugar Factory. It’s good to be back. 💜
I m giving the Suagr Factiry Meatpacking District 2 stars because it was freezing in the place, when I tell you Freezing!, FREZZING!! Yes!, we went on a day where it was also freezing outside but I’m sure restaurants are built to have a heating system capable to provide heat for a restaurant hall full. I had my sweater and scarf on and was still sitting at the table with my arms crossed as well as my 15 year old was sitting there curled up in her sweater and my 11 year old was wearing her coat. Our reservation was at 12noon. The Suager factory opens at 11am. I feel that the heat should of been turned on from when te facility opened up. The manager had a space heater on at the back section of the seating area as where I asked if the heater can be placed closer for more warmth and I asked several times but to no avail. Instead I was offered one hot chocolate on the house for myself and my children to share which I accepted., it helped little but 10 minutes later we were cold again. The food was good. Service from the waiter was okay. I will refer upper west side
Overpriced food, with small portions and lack of flavor
My Server Jan Was Great. Being a server myself it’s always nice to have a server that can also bring a certain vibe to the table. Subtle but involved, suggestive without overselling. I had to ask for nothing and all suggestions were perfect. My Gf and I enjoyed Valentines Day Here, and the music choice was versatile and for time was spot on.
