Sufiya's Grill Ratings and Reviews
Sufiya's Grill is a small restaurant in a strip mall. The wait staff are very attentive professional and serve with a smile. I chose this restaurant based on reviews and the need to try sonething different. I am so happy I chose Sufiya's Grill. We had falafel for our appetizer and Lamb kebabs for our entree. The Green rice was delicious. The Barberry rice was also tasty. The Lamb was well seasoned and grilled to perfection. It goes very well with the red pepper sauce. The falafel was the best I've ever had. Three patties with a beautiful crispy crust and plated beautifully with sauce and spices. We would definitely dine here again.
I travel a lot for business and I'm always looking for good restaurants near my hotels when I travel that I can get a decent meal. I like variety and love mid eastern cuisine. Sufiya has to be one of the best mid eastern restaurants that I have ever eaten in. They were also very accommodating when I asked for a combination that was not on the menu. However, this is also where I was disappointed how they handled my meal. They priced the combination significantly higher than if I had ordered the items separately and significantly more than a similar combination that they had on their menu. In fact I only swapped out an item for another that, priced separately, were only $1.00 more. But my combination was more than $10 than the menu combination. It made no sense. When I questioned the difference I was told those were "the house rules", but my sense was they just made it up after I made my request.
The food, however was delicious and prepared very well.. my only disappointment with the food was that I requested medium rare for the beef and it came out more like medium well instead. They offer a side of rice that can be prepared in different ways from the standard (there is an up charge for the special rice, but it's worth it). I tried the cherry rice. It was fantastic! They have a short desert list, but the choices sounded good. I was too full to eat desert.
Service is prompt, friendly and professional, but a little abrupt. The dining area is small and they place the tables, in many cases, very close to one another. You cannot help but hear your neighbors conversations and makes the dining area a little noisy. I would prefer a little more space between the tables.
Friendly attentive service and delicious meals. We were a party of 3 and tasted a couple of appetizers with a glass of delicious white sangria. The main courses were well prepared. I love being able to have a salad instead of rice for a small up charge. Very reasonably priced. Save room for warm baklava or try the Persian ice cream. We will be back.
Tried Sufiya's Grill on strength of the great reviews, and it did not disappoint. We were greeted pleasantly and seated at once. The setting is simple but quite comfortable. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu had something to suit just about every taste, with a particularly broad range of appetizers. Hummus was solidly good, served with hot, fresh pita. The kebabs were nicely done, flavorful and subtly seasoned and served with ample portions of rice and the traditional grilled tomato and onion. Prices were quite reasonable. As others have noted, reservations are definitely indicated, as many of the tables were full by the time we were leaving. They also seemed to do a brisk takeout business. Clearly a neighborhood favorite.
This is usually one of our favorite restaurants. But on this night our lamb was grizzly and tough. Our inexperienced waiter brought the wrong salad to my husband and kept trying to take our courses away before we were finished. He removed my husband's dishes while I was still eating. That is rude.
We have been going to this restaurant for several years. We have always enjoyed the food. The variety and quality of the items on the menu are fabulous. You are never rushed, we are always welcomed and made to feel extremely comfortable. I suggest all items they offer, as we have not had a bad meal there. Their prices are very reasonable. Their only drawback is a limited dessert menu. But to tell the truth, we are always so full after their amazing meals, that we rarely have room for dessert! A must go to!!!
This Mediterranean restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center on Hempstead Turnpike. We have been coming here for years and the quality of the food never varies. Always great food and large portions. Staff is always friendly and courteous. Restaurant has been redecorated about a year or so ago and is very inviting. Prices are good, food is great and portions are large. Come and enjoy!!
May not be huge inside but you don't feel cramped or like you're sitting on top of others. There's a nice circular table right up front if you have a medium-sized group, as well as several square tables toward the interior & back.
Being that we weren't super-hungry, we skipped ordering any appetizers. They did, however, bring out a small basket of very warm pita triangles served with tahini sauce.
My wife and I each had a lunch special. She ordered the Falafel Platter with hummus and white rice and I had the Lamb Shish Kebab with brown rice. Both of our orders were accompanied by grilled veggies (onion, tomato, & green bell pepper). Our son had chicken strips with fries from the Kids' Menu...go figure. I also got a salad with my meal and it was fine - nothing fancy/special but looked good and tasted fresh. The lamb was juicy and very flavorful and cooked to a perfect medium with just a little pink at the center. The brown rice was fluffy and delicious and they gave you a pretty good portion of it, especially considering it was part of a lunch special. The platters were beautifully plated as well.
I enjoyed my meal the most and I thought my wife's falafel dish was fine as well. We had the Persian Ice Cream with Pistachio to top it all off.
The staff were attentive. At the outset, they took a little while to take our order but did come by and apologize and informed that they would be right back to do so. I liked that because we weren't really annoyed by that point or anything but they seemed to want to please us.
There is a banner outside proclaiming that they were voted by Long Islanders as "Best Romantic Dinner on Long Island" (see: bestof.longislandpress.c…). I'm guessing that would be more appropriate during a dinner service but I can see how they would have won that title.
Plenty of parking in the (shared) parking lot on a Sunday afternoon, which we also appreciated.
The weeknight price fixed dinner can't be beat for both quality and price. Never disappointing . We love the whole Cornish hen kebab- juicy and perfectly seasoned and served with generous portions of freshly made side dishes, salads and house made pitas, flatbreads and sauces. Located in a non- descript strip mall, it has a surprisingly serene vibe and well worth the trip.
I've dined at Sufiya's twice before and decided to take my husband to check it out. He was very please with the appetizer and his fish dish. Our server was very nice and professional and made sure that he checked on us often. I've now had a few different dishes here and I've never been disappointed. This restaurant is small and fills very quickly to assure that you get seating promptly, reservations are best.
I found this restaurant through a Groupon offer. My husband and I decided to go there for date night and were pleasantly surprised that it lived up to the reviews that I had read before our visit. The bar area was quite nice as was the seating areas. We dined in a booth and were greeted by a great server with lots of personality. He was very well versed in the menu items and gladly made recommendations based on our food preferences. My husband doesn't eat beef or pork and there was still plenty for him to choose from. We started with the flatbread and the japanese eggplant, both were very good. For our entree we had the braised short ribs and the chicken dish, both were very well prepared and flavorful. We finished up with sorbet.
Have been to Sufiyas Grill three times now and have not been disappointed. If you want to try very good Mediterranean food at a very reasonable price, this is the restaurant for you.
Nice place to take a date...very relaxed atmosphere.
Always willing to accommodate their customers.
In a tiny strip mall facing Henpstead Tpke who expected to walk in the small store front and be greeted with a big hello and smiles. It was a lively beginning to a wonderful experience. Place decorated for Halloween very tastefully. Even the wait staff. With orange napkins it was perfect. Creamy snd delicious babaganosh and authentic Greek salad. Great. My fish was so delicious with lots of grilled veggies. My husband loved the lamb shank For dessert I had Persian ice cream. It was really great. My husband had a creamy cheesecake. Coffee was hot! We had a great time and the staff was very very friendly and nice! Highly recommend.
