While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Marginal at best. Slow service. Food just ok. Dessert was delicious. Took some home.
Great food and great service! The staff was able to seat us early and our server was attentive and knowledgeable.
Very poor service. Very few customers yet our waiter took our order , delivered our food and never came back except to ask if we wanted our check. We ate here in December and had a great experience and the waiter was great. Conversational and truly was great. The lunch menu is not as good as dinner and the quality of the good reflects. Don’t know if we will return .
Succotash had great food. The service was nonchalant though. Our server kind of left us alone for a long time. I had to lasso another waiter to get a second beer. A minute later our server arrived and handed us the check and asked if we wanted dessert. Kind of odd. I told him we just ordered drinks and he shrugged. I had catfish which was very well prepared. My daughter had a cheeseburger which was solid but not exceptional. I am not a whiskey guy so the cocktail menu was not very appealing. The beer selection was, I thought, weak for a great beer city like DC. Overall, it was worth the price but probably not worth a return visit.
While the food was tasty, we were disappointed in the service here. We expected more for the price you pay.
We had a very nice dinner at Succotash! The food was fresh and on point. Being in the front of the house in the restaurant business myself, I take notice to how the staff interacts with customers. I was not impressed. My husband and I are very easy to please and quite friendly. We both felt that most of our interactions (hostess, food expeditor, server, etc.) were okay - some were kind of smug. I still left over 20% gratuity because I do realize it could have been an off day, but definitely took notice. We had dinner at another restaurant the same weekend and the friendliness of staff made the meal.
i had an issue with seating (even though I had already made a reservation, with a special request). The waiters/staff was very accommodating . Even though we waited to get the seat we needed, the service was overall fantastic.
My husband and I were celebrating both of our birthdays, for the first time after we got married recently, as our birthdays are only 3 days apart. The restaurant provided champagne and free dessert on the house!
And food of course was amazing. We were there for weekend brunch so we ordered; mac n' cheese, Delta Bowl, steak platter, and fries. They were all so delicious. We definitely plan on going back and hope the service and food remains exceptional!
Food was great, but we waited over an hour and a half for food. We arrived for a 1:30pm reservation and did not receive our food until after 3:00pm. When they brought the food, they slowly brought each dish out one by one (meaning after waiting that long they had to return to the kitchen for each individual plate). They also brought one of the wrong dishes. The only compensation we received was a free dessert that we did not ask for. Very disappointing for a restaurant recognized by Michelin.

Be sure to make a reservation! Great restaurant with a very detailed and unique menu! Portions were huge! The short rib was fabulous and definitely shareable between 2 people! Chicken and waffles was outstanding and also could be shared! The wings were delicious as were the deviled eggs! The Hummingbird cake was giant and shared by the table...it was also delicious! Go ahead, have the cake! We forgot to take a picture of the cake before it was hobbled up!
The warm apple cider was amazing! We had the cornbread cakes which were a good snack to share among 2-3 folks. The seasonal jam was delicious. The Mac and cheese and the chocolate pecan pie were delicious. Most of the succotash options were very good as well. The roasted salmon dish was very good as well. The crab cake portion was very small as it was one cake. All in all, the food we ordered was very delicious.
The building was amazing and the food was phenomenal!
Excellent food, great atmosphere, unique experience
Very nice evening at this restaurant. We were a party of 6 with an additional guest and were accommodated in a cozy room that was perfect for our group. Everyone loved their selections from Shrimp & Grits to the Salmon or ribs. Waiter was attentive and cordial.
I enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Succotash at National Harbor a few months ago. I decided to try the one in Penn Quarter because it was a shorter drive from our office in Sterling, Virginia. I would have given the Succotash at National Harbor 5 stars for everything. I did not get the same experience in Penn Quarter. The music was too loud and the genre was not okay for a restaurant. It was hard rock and roll. Not relaxing or pleasant. I have never heard any restaurant playing that music. The service was terribly slow. It took at least 15 minutes to get a glass of wine each time I ordered one. The food was very good. It just was not a pleasant experience due to loud music and slow service. It took a full two hours to be served and eat our food and we had a long trip back to our home in Leesburg.
The staff here is excellent! They were so accommodating, professional and kind and the food is really good. We had a great experience, highly recommend!

As visitors to DC, we really enjoyed our lunch at Succotash - Penn Quarter. The food (crab cakes, citrus salad, pear salad and an avocado toast) was very fresh, well-seasoned and delicious; the service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely return on our next trip to try more menu items.
The food was amazing, however the service was absolutely awful. We waited for 15 minutes before a server even approached us and they weren’t even that busy. We barely saw our server the entire time, multiple occasions we saw servers standing around at the host stand. They gave us a free appetizer to make up for the wait, but then charged us for it when we got our bill. We decided to get a drink after at the bar and the bartender was extremely rude to us. She definitely wanted to rush us and made a point to give us our check. Extremely disappointed in the service.
The service was very good. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. The restaurant itself is an interesting spot that was set up nicely. We ate upstairs and the noise level was not an issue there, but I could see how it might be downstairs.
There were a lot of positives about our experience, but the food was just ok. The grits on my shrimp and grits were more like a soup and there very little seasoning or flavor to the entire meal. It wasn’t bad, but I was hoping for more. My partner had the halibut with the crawfish étouffée. The halibut was cooked nicely and not overdone. Again, it was a lack of seasoning or flavor that seemed to be the issue. We were hoping for a meal that had the cuisine and flavor of the South and the meal, unfortunately, did not meet that standard.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Our waiter was fantastic, attentive, and gave great recommendations on starters and entrees, but the entrees were very slow coming out and we were trying to get to a show (which our server knew). I think timing of the entrees was on the kitchen.
Our waiter was great and the food was wonderful. It’s a fun, high energy environment and the surroundings are beautiful. I look forward to going back!
We had to wait quite a bit to be seated for our 6:30 reservation, but after that it was a great experience. Delicious cocktails (especially Belle's Punch) and we LOVED the smoked chicken wings. Happy to return again sometime, maybe to try out that amazing brunch menu.
My main complain is regarding the service. It wasn’t a packed lunch crowd yet it took 10 minutes for water. We had a waitress for our table yet she wasn’t the one who took our order, the one to bring the food, nor did she ever check on us during the course of our meal. When I flagged her down to request a modification to our dessert, she was clearly put off. She was the worst. It was evident she had no interest in being at work that day.

We wanted to have a very nice dinner to match a very nice theater performance and this we did. Ask for the vault, the noise level is better.
Nothing about this meal blew me away. The service was moderately inattentive and food itself was sort of bland.
Bring an appetite. The portions are ridiculously generous. Food is inventive and flavorful. The staff are incredibly thoughtful and attentive. Fun and romantic atmosphere.
I love the relaxed feel of this place, like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly, drinks were great as well

I ate at Succotash once before and enjoyed it, so I brought my wife on a lunch date. What a disappointment. Our server was very blah, like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. We wanted to take our time, since we had the day off and wanted to enjoy a relaxed lunch date. So we ordered drinks and appetizers first, and took our time deciding on entrees. We just started the first bites of our appetizers and our entrees came out. We told the food runner to take the food back and he looked shocked. Why should we let our entrees get cold or feel rushed to eat everything all at the same time? The food runner mumbled something about putting the food under a heat lamp and our server came by and apologized for the bad timing. When they brought our entrees back out, we can tell he wasn’t joking about the heat lamp. My shrimp and grits had a “skin” on top that developed from sitting around, and to top it off, the dish wasn’t even all that flavorful. My wife’s salmon was supposed to be a medium-rare, and was more like medium well/well and the salad greens were hot and had wilted under the heat lamp. Also, the menu advertised an egg on her steak tartare app, which was missing. It’s a beautiful restaurant, but there are SO many restaurant choices in DC, I doubt we will be back.
The interior reminded us of places we’ve dined in New Orleans. The southern-influenced menu isn’t extensive, but everything was good; the Shrimp & Grits were especially tasty. The wine and drink menu is well thought out. The noise level is on the high side, so ask to sit upstairs (where you’re lieterally above the din) if that bothers you. We had a good time, and good service. Would definitely go back.
Really enjoyed the food and service here. Tried many of the apps and the vegetable special of the week was delicious.
A fabulous lunch of southern fare was enjoyed in a beautiful renovated bank. Seating was quite comfortable and sound level was delightful. Service was excellent without being stuffy. We enjoyed fabulous chicken and waffles with pickled okra, a great burger and nicely spiced pulled pork. A yummy bottle of French Pinot and the best mint julep ice cream topped off a delightful meal. Highly recommend! We can't wait to go back.
Food was delicious, service not so great. Bad-tempered waitstaff and busboys who take plates away while you’re still eating (!) even on a slow weeknight when there’s no one waiting for your table... it detracted from the delicious food, unfortunately.
