Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

Amazing service and great food. Maybe the best restaurant week I’ve been to
Chicken and waffles was surprisingly flat in flavor.
I would totally recommend. The chicken and waffles were perfect and flavorful. The belle's punch was delicious. Only complaint was the deviled eggs which I would not recommend due to the lack of flavor, very modest with the seasoning.
Our waiter Collin was excellent! He did a wonderful job. I expected more from the food. In fairness it was Restaurant Week and everyone was ordering the same thing. The service and staff were top notch but the food was questionable and left us thinking we made the wrong decision.
I was very impressed by the design and ambiance of the restaurant. It was absolutely stunning and decorated with a comfy and moderate vibe. My date and I went for the restaurant week brunch so that we could sample a lot of the menu. Each dish was fabulous and surpassed my own Southern upbringing's expectation. The only issue would be the service and how slow food/requested items (napkins, coffee refill) came out.
The food was fantastic as always! I’ve been a few times for brunch and recommend the chicken and waffles, they’re delicious
We wanted to try something new and being Restaurant week it worked out well! Service was awesome and all the servers were friendly ;) LOVED everything we had especially the Catfish !!
The food was disappointing. Not tasty, very heavy and not the quality it should be for a lovely restaurant. The service was friendly and personable.
Girlfriends evening - food was fabulous - service exceptional- just a little noisy, but too be expected with open concept. Will definitely go again
Had lunch here for Restaurant Week and the experience was very dull. The menu was pretty much set and the only choice for the guests was a side of collard greens or a blue cheese salad that also had to be shared by the table. The catfish, wings, collard greens and chicken and waffles were ok, but nothing particularly good. Our server, Jonathan, was not in a great mood and rolled his eyes several times. He also kept highlighting that the regular menu was a better value over the restaurant week one and referred to the restaurant week portions as a tasting, and he was right; the portions were pretty small. I really don’t understand why restaurants participate in this event with such a mediocre approach. Many people try during restaurant week new places you may not regularly go for. After the average food and poor customer service, I have zero desire to return to this place for a special occasion or date night.
I took one look at the chicken on top of my waffle, and knew it couldn't taste better than how it looks. I was right! It was horrible. The deviled egg was also a disappointment. Maybe I didnt get the best of this experience because I went during restaurant week. Nevertheless, our waiter, I believe his name was Solo, was awesome.
The hosts, our server and wait staff was excellent. The food was very, very good. I always heard good things about this restaurant and Friday January 17th. was my first time at Succotash. will be back sooner than later.
Table of 4 had the family style Restaurant week special. All the appetizers were good: the best was the smoked wings. Tasted to me like the ribs were overly spiced with vinegar and collards were overly spiced with smoke-flavor. Chicken white choc cookies were better. Added on the mint Julip ice cream which was delicious. Very pleasant server.
I really liked this place. Its an old bank and they have kept much of what looks like the original building but it fits with a modern restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was welcoming. Its a winner for lunch or dinner. I'll be back.
Had an amazing burger! Beautiful place. Hope to return!
I wanted to try this place so bad, it was a disappointment unfortunately. I was warned by a coworker that portions will end up being very small. She was right, I went during restaurant week thinking I had nothing to loose, well, the portions were ridiculously small for three people, the amount of food served would have been perfect for two. The food was tasty though. Thee are so many restaurants in the area that serve a decent amount of food that it makes it hard for me to be satisfied with Succotash.
This space is beautiful. Beautiful. Stop in. Have a drink. Maybe some appetizers and desserts, which are quite good. But the entrees are definitely lacking. I've gone here twice (wanted to give it a second try because its so beautiful) but they seem to think that the key to Asian / Southern fusion lies in really thick, overpowering, and unpleasant sauces on what would otherwise seem to be very fine ingredients. I found this to be especially true of the Dirty Chicken and the Roasted Salmon, but the Crispy Blue Catfish wasn't much better. Maybe there are entrees that don't have this issue, but I think I've lost my appetite to try again.
Always takes 2.5 hours to dine here. Service is remarkably slow even when the restaurant is below capacity.
Dined here right after Christmas, and in addition to being terribly slow and hardly seeing our server, the server joked about a severe peanut allergy at our table and took his time confirming with the kitchen as to whether the food on our table had come into contact with peanuts. The manager on duty promised great service if we returned.
I returned a few weeks later, was seated by the manager on duty in a nice booth. Very warm welcome. But as soon as we were seated, she disappeared and we reverted to the same old spotty service. We were in the booth for 2+ hours. Had to wait 30 minutes after being seated and immediately ordering for the tiny first course to arrive.
Food really is great. Management has some serious issues to work out. Surprised the problem is this bad seeing how timing directly impacts their profitability. Won’t be back anytime soon.
I went for restaurant week and I was delighted with the service, portion size, the ambiance and most importantly - the taste. Their rye whiskey flight was memorable and good. I intend to return in the future.
The food was not very flavorful. It seems to be made for a less discerning palate. The portions were incredibly small and bland save for the sauces.
Excellent meal and service. Dining area was noisier that I would have preferred - but we were there at a busy time.
A group of 5 ladies celebrating sisterhood during Restaurant Week...wow, what a meal! What great service!
Best Chicken and Waffles in the history of both chicken, and waffles -- and that is a long, long history!
I always love taking clients, friends and family members to Succotash DC -- it's such an interesting and unique space, very warm and inviting, and the menu has something for just about anyone. Could not recommend more for a nice relaxing and delicious meal whether you're sightseeing, or before an event at the nearby Capital One Arena. Thank you Succotash for always meeting and exceeding my expectations!
We had a great restaurant week experience and feel we definitely got a great value. Serving a family-style sampler was a great way to experience a lot of what Succotash can offer - which is amazing southern cuisine! Our server / management was very accomodating with our diner with dietary concerns. The building is beautiful as well.
We had an amazing meal here. For starters, tried the Nashville-style hot fried oysters which were just so good. We also had the deviled eggs with caviar. For our mains, my friend halibut with crawfish etouffee and I had the dirty chicken. Both were great, but let me tell you: the dirty chicken was just amazing. A really different dish. We had sides of bourbon-pickled jalapenos and collards with kimchi and country ham which was spicy and delicious. The food here has attitude and is super delicious. The environment is rustic and charming. Cocktails were great. Our server was pleasant, relaxed, and on top of it. What more could you ask for?
Succotash was a great experience! I went for the happy hour and enjoyed both the food and drinks! I will definitely go back!
Taste of the South was well worth it!
I visited the restaurant for brunch with my wife and my son. We all ordered the "strawberry" salmon dish. In addition to that dish my son ordered biscuits, my wife hush puppies and I ordered pear feta salad. The Salmon was well cooked at medium temperature. The only downside was the "strawberry" topping that did not taste like strawberry. It really threw off a really good piece of fish. I enjoyed the pear feta salad as it was fresh. The manager and the wait staff were friendly....I just wasn't wowed by the food.
Food was okay. The building was gorgeous and the service was good. I would go back for dinner because the building was so beautiful, but I sense that they need to work on the consistency of the food. It was overly salty and the chicken was fried way too hard.
Had chicken and waffles. A lot of food. It was very good.
Awesome service, intimate setting for our party of six, friendly and attentive staff, and the food was scrumptious. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
I have dined here for lunch, happy hours & dinner. Always a great experience. My go to for dining w/ friends.
The service was amazing. The ambiance was great. My halibut was overcooked and dry so I was very disappointed. The crawfish etoufee sauce was delicious though.
This was an amazing meal. I tried the Salmon, the Ribs, and the Chicken and Waffles. All were excellent. I can't wait to go back.
Despite outstanding food and an incredible atmosphere, the service was awful. The bartender was more interested in chatting with his associates, who were just to my left, than in serving me. I felt as if I was interrupting him when I asked for pepper or had a question. Another sad example of where SERVICE needs to be drilled in. No matter how wonderful the food, the ambiance, the location, etc., people (ME) remember how they were treated. I told the host and he acted surprised, so perhaps it was just me or the evening. Whatever...
Fabulous in every way. All 6 in our party were very happy with the drinks, appetizers and our meals. Perfect burger!!
I had not been before and will go again. Interesting menu, friendly staff, good food, attractive setting.
This was second visit, and first was Christmas Eve. Food was wonderful. Out of town guests loved it. Place is attractive and service is considerate.
Great, unique food. Perfect service. Can’t wait to go back at supper time.
Did not like the seating, however it was an overall good experience.
