Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

I can say enough good things about the food, service and vibe of the restaurant. If you are craving some soul soothing food with some good tunes, then it fits the bill.
Food was good, not great. Glad I tried it!
I love this place. I had lunch on Friday, and dinner on Sunday. Everything about this location has been Superb!
They need more servers. The service was great but very slow because they were short staffed.
I've been looking forward to trying this place for a while and felt pretty underwhelmed with the food. From appetizers to the main for brunch I didn't walk away feeling totally satisfied or that I had a GREAT meal. If someone insisted to go, I'd tag along but probably wouldn't go back if I had a choice of another restaurant.
Our waiter was awesome and had great suggestions. We loved the ambiance and the food. Everything was yummy!
Great first meal here before Caps game! Will be back. It is heavy comfort food with lots of spice so not a great choice for anyone with food sensitivities or allergies
Having been to Succotash previously and enjoying their food, drinks, and service, I was unfortunately disappointed with this last visit. The fried chicken was tough and dry on the inside; the pecan tarts were mostly chocolate and overpowered the miniscule pecans adorning the top. Our plates were also not switched out between our cinnamon buns and salad, so we were left with eating our greens mixed with sticky sweet icing (yes we could have asked for new plates and it wasn't the end of the world, but this is a reflection of the attentiveness of the service).
The food took a long time to come and when it did come the food was room temperature. Over all the food is over priced. The party menu was terrible you pay about $60 to eat one wing an share a personal salad with about 4 other people. The value is definitely not work it.
Hello, Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience. Were you able to speak with a manager during your visit so we could correct the issues before you left? If not, I encourage you to contact us so we can put you in touch with our General Manager. I'm also disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy our $42pp family style menu. Typically our guests respond that they cannot finish it because we provide great portions of our 10 most popular items.
Was seated on the 2nd floor. Noise level was significantly lower than the main floor.
Great experience overall! Everything was great.
Excellent cocktails to start. Excellent fresh and tasty autumn salad and succotash curry. Delicious. Husband had fish. I had steak. All was fine but I was especially taken with the large serving of winter squash and cooked greens also on my plate. A really lovely evening before a concert.
I enjoyed my experience Succotash and the food was quite tasty as usual. We were celebrating my coworkers baby shower and the ambience was perfect.
I came for a lunch with a friend. Dining Layout is very cool and was quiet but might get louder in the evening. Server was kind and quick, but did not seem to know the details of the dishes as much as I had hoped. I had the burger and my guest had the chicken sandwich, both were excellent. The grits were some of the best I’ve had, but the succotash curry was average. A reasonable price for the quality of food, especially in that area.
The food is amazing. The taste, the flavors and the varied combinations are just amazing. I usually do not eat dessert but went for my birthday and their chocolate ganache was fantastic!
The food was great. Subpar service but luckily everything else made up for it.
SURROUNDINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND INTERESTING. OUR TABLE UPSTAIRS WAS A BIT CRAMPED.. FOOD SELECTION IS A BIT LIMITED BUT WAS QUITE GOOD. NICE WINE SELECTION.
Came from out of town with a group of coworkers. Worked out great for all of us - from meat eaters, to vegetarian, to gluten-free. All of our dishes were excellent and we all wanted a bite of the chicken and waffles. Also loved the mocktail menu!
Great location. Elegant and comfortable tables and decor, interesting seating options with two levels available. Service, food and ambience all very good to excellent. Two of us had salads: Pear and Fried Green Tomatoes, each with medium portions; other friend had pulled pork which he loved and had generous portions. Side of fries was good though not exceptional though their spicy ketchup was an interesting touch. Wish they would have taken separate checks, but not a big problem as they will take 2 or more credit cards ( I think up to 5) to split checks. Highly recommend. I will be back!
Loved the place; the restaurant itself is gorgeous and the food was lovely.
We have had brunch at Succotash several times, but never had dinner. My husband and I had dinner for the first time on Saturday night. The atmosphere at night was just as appealing as the afternoon. The food and drinks were fabulous. The service was GREAT! A very fun evening at Succotash!
Reeeeaaaaally slow service and the waitress was super indifferent and unapologetic. Had the waitress been a little nice and maybe
Great food. Great ambience. Reminds me of Charleston South Carolina.
Great food, location, & atmosphere. Reservation process on Open Table was easy. Lots of good menu choices. Wait staff courteous & attentive.
I absolutely love this restaurant. I have been several times and it never disappoints! The food is always delicious, the staff is friendly and accommodating, the cocktails are delicious, and there’s a good selection of wine. I truly cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I take everyone of my out of town guests to eat at Succotash! I highly recommend the ribs, the hush puppies, the watermelon and peanut salad, and the fried chicken and biscuit sliders!
This was a birthday celebration and fun time had by all.
A must visit in DC. The ambiance in the building - the architecture and decor was beautiful! All of the food was incredible, excellent southern classics plus some asian inspiration? A fun mix. And our waiter knocked it out of the park
Excellent food & service. My only complaint was the noise-level.
From the drinks thru the meal it was an excellent evening
After a successful Marine Core Marathon a group of us wanted to celebrate. We didn't know exactly what to expect but when we got there the establishment was gorgeous and intimidating. My friend wore a collar shirt and shorts and was nervous he was under dressed. We were accepted and seated promptly. The waitress and other servers were attentive and nice.
The food was delicious! We wanted to try everything on the menu but couldn't. We couldn't stop raving about it for the rest of the evening. We would definitely recommend anyone to go here as well as if we are back in Washington D.C. Soon we will be back!
I had a great brunch at Succotash. My wife and I ventured out with our two squirrelly kids. Not only was the waiter super patient, but we had an excellent chat with the manager (Victoria maybe?). Is this a kids restaurant? No, but my wife and I have already pledged to get a sitter so we can go back for a dinner. My wife had the Avacodo Toast BLT and it was really good. I had the Lobster Benedict, which was divine. I also loved the watermelon with the fried peanuts.
Great food. We did the tasting menu and everything was wonderful. Especially liked the chicken and waffles and the fried green tomatoes. The cocktails were great as well
Loved the fried green tomatoes and chocolate bourbon pecan pie
Three of us dined, and had an assortment of starters and sides that in effect worked out to be the Taste of the South at a much lower price. To put it mildly, the food was outstanding, with the Korean and Southern influences nicely balanced, as in the collards, kimchi, and smoked ham. Service was friendly and efficient, always there without hovering over our table. We had a relaxed, enjoyable meal without feeling rushed, and with plenty of time to get to the museum and our show at Ford's.
We'll be back.
My server name was HaJa and she's the best server in the world! Can't wait to come back tomorrow and request her for another awesome dinner!
Well done my friend, HaJa is a winner in life!
Hit and miss dishes. Huge miss was the "dirty chicken". By it's description on the menu this was going to be an inspired dish of dark meat (thighs and legs) sauced deliciously. Fried chicken pieces, though, were overcooked to the extreme and dry as the Sahara....dessicated and shrunken, encased in a thick greasy batter that added nothing but volume.
Two salads, though, were a hit. Pear salad was delicious. Fried green tomato salad, including arugula and other tasty bits, with buttermilk dressing was a home run. A grand slam that almost saved the meal.
Unique in all aspects - fabulous, creative dishes and truly a grand space. Perfect for wow factor for guests.
The food was very good, but the service was terrible.
Did not enjoy! Food was not good.
The food was prepared with care and it was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive. The vault was a special and cozy place to dine.
