Su Xing House
Food was very good with a lot of choices to decide from. Did not know it was BYOB but there is a package goods store two blocks away. They where very attentive to keeping the table tidy/neat. Would go back again after a show...
The food and the service were quite good. When we arrived at 5 pm, we were the only diners there, and were placed at a table in a cubby upstairs next to a window. However, near the end of our meal, another couple came in who were loud and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Despite the fact that the restaurant was otherwise entirely empty, this couple was placed in the cubby right behind ours. Not only were they loud and smelly, but the woman, who was sitting on the seat with her back to my seat, was extremely active, and kept knocking the back of my seat. Fortunately, we were almost done, and left about 15 minutes after they arrived.
So many tempting choices & those we picked freshly made & tasty. What veg. food could and should be. Be sure to mention to server if you have time constriction.
We were seated up stairs and at the window with neon lights. The lights provided an almost surreal ambience, while the elevation kept us from staring directly into peoples faces as they walked by on the street below. The server was attentive yet not intrusive. It was such a cozy atmosphere we ate our food slowly, just enjoying the experience overall. The food was wonderful. Fresh, dynamic, complex—everything was a delight. The complimentary tea was such a tasty yet friendly touch to the table experience.
Portions are a little smaller, prices are a little higher, the lighting is a little brighter. Everything else seems the same as pre-pandemic. Still one of my pre-concert go-tos.
Everyone in our group loved the flavors and diversity of all our dishes. Sauces, soup, vegan- meats, tofu, noodles and broccoli were very good. I only held back one star because we wished for other vegetables too. We especially wished for leafy greens, but couldn’t find them. Maybe we missed them.
We highly recommend this place and look forward to returning.
Our first time dining here but it won’t be our last. The service was attentive without being overbearing. The spring rolls were crispy but not greasy. The soup was hot and spicy. The tofu with cashews were a yummy appetizer. Our entrees were excellent.
My only criticism is that the interior is worn and needs updating. My seat cushion covering was torn up. Go for the food, not the decor.
All was great from the apps to the main course to the desserts
What can I say other than Perfect as usual! The service is prompt and professional, the spring rolls are crispy to a fault. Steamed dumplings are amazing. We always order the Sesame Tofu...crispy cubes of tofu in amazing sauce, surrounded by fresh crunchy broccoli. Teriyaki steak was super yummy. Brown rice was just right. Tea is constantly refilled. This is our favorite Chinese restaurant of ANYwhere we’ve ever eaten...and we re not vegetarians!!
We ordered a steamed dumpling appetizer, General Tso's Tofu, and a tofu with eggplant and mushrooms hot pot. The dumplings were a delightful surprise -- creamy filling instead of the usual little ball bearing of meat or shrimp. General Tso was nicely arranged with the sauced tofu in the middle of a corona of steamed broccoli florets. The tofu cubes had a crust around a soft filling, and the sauce was flavorful -- more gelatinous in texture than the usual goopy consistency. In spite of all the dried peppers, it wasn't spicy at all, which was a minor disappointment as far as I'm concerned. The hot pot was wonderfully flavored and rich-tasting. Service was friendly and attentive. All in all, a good choice when you want something a little different. You won't find a kosher vegan Chinese restaurant on every corner, after all.
I've been here twice and BOTH visits were amazing. The food is delicious, the service is incredibly attentive, and there are SO many options. I like that they have a variety of portion sizes so you can put together 3-4 small plates if you want to try new things and make a meal of it. The non-vegetarians in our group were impressed with the protein tastes and textures.
Wonderful, healthy food!
I am a vegan. It is awesome to find a 100% plant based place to eat in Philly. Most places are vegetarian which includes animal products that I don't eat. We had the Soi Mai, dumplings, bbq seitan appetizer, General Tso's Seitan and Veg Steak Stips with Veggies. All we delicious. I am still snacking on the General Tso Seitan. I am a vegan chef and it was cool to find a place where I can eat everything on the menu😊
Night Owl Vegan
Excellent food and service. It is a relatively new find for us and we love it.
Excellent service Amazing food
Seitan and tofu were cooked perfectly
Good food Seitan was prepared good will try Tofu next time
Amazing food and service
Delicious vegetarian Chinese food! Everything is consistently delicious! Sesame seitan was a hit with meat-eaters and the eggplant tofu is my favorite!
Excellent food and as nonmeat eaters, the selection is fabulous.
Was pretty good overall. Service was good and kept the tea and water coming. Appetizers were just so-so. Spring rolls and dumplings. Main courses were really good. Worth a shot. Will be back to try again.
Great menu with amazing vegan options. Great service. Delicious food. Will definitely be regulars here.
Delicious food, friendly service, great all-around
Su Xing's food was excellent and very tasty. When we got there, we waited a long time for water, tea, and wine glasses. I finally asked one of the waiters if he was our waiter, and he said he wasn't but he could take our orders. He then brought us water, tea and wine glasses. He was mostly our waiter, but occasionally someone else brought some of the food. One of my friends ordered an appetizer that they forgot about. (We were part of Vegan Restaurant week). We did mention it and it came when he was halfway through his entree. Other than that we had a delicious dinner that was very reasonably priced.
Our grandson’s birthday. Food was great- service was friendly but very slow. They were packed so that could have been the reason for slow service
A safe haven for vegetarians, especially those who love Asian food. I am always skeptical of Chinese restaurants that have meat in almost every meal, so it was so reassuring to have a 100% meatless menu. Food is also quite tasty, although my particular dish was lacking in variety. Nice location and ambiance is soothing and homey.
Had three non-vegans join us and they loved it.
Service and meal were excellent. Thank you
Excellent general Taos todu
Great food, great service. Parking can be a challenge if you dont want to use a garage.
My favorite place for lunch! The owner is awesome, and so are the staff and the food. The General Tso’s Tofu is a must.
Amazing Chinese food, really enjoyed by the vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The highlight was the Peking Duck, you must order it. Everyone loved the General Tso's tofu and the five spice mushrooms as well. The green beans were crisp and tasty.
Huge menu with great variety. Service very slow the night we dined.
Perfect for vegans. 99 percent of selections are vegan. Even our non-vegan son enjoyed the pancakes and fried rice.
Su Xing House was a great place to take my wife for Mother's Day. We chose it because they focus on vegetarian and vegan options. From the start, with promptly refilled jasmine tea piping hot, to the end of the meal, our server (I am not good on names, I believe it was Margie) and her assistants were attentive, cheerful, and helpful. I am on a cardiac healthy, Dr Esselstyn diet, vegan with no oil or nuts, and I asked what would fit my diet. The suggested choices, Three Mushroom soup and Assorted Vegetables Chen-Tu Style met my needs and were delicious, cooked just right, and portions were generous. My wife's Teriyaki Steak (soy) had great flavor and texture. The atmosphere was relaxed and cordial. We will be back, and we recommend you visit soon. It has limited seating, so make a reservation. Open Table worked very smoothly.
The food is consistently excellent and the service is equally good.
Great ambiance, great food. Customer service was a little slow with water, but overall great time.
This Chinese vegetarian/vegan restaurant hit all the high notes. The dining room was quiet, the food superb, and the service well paced. The mapo tofu was especially flavorful, the long noodle & tofu dish delicious, and the tofu skin with mushrooms was a special treat. Truly a wonderful and delicious meal!
Was very excited finding this vegetarian place.
Waiter made us all anxious at the table.
He seemed clueless, was not helpful when responding to questions about the menu.
He brought our food to the table before clearing off the many appetizer dishes still on the table - -
and left to bring more entrees without taking them again. I put them into his hand.
Simply not a relaxing or enjoyable meal. Will probably not go back.
My wife and I were in Philadelphia for a two day get away. Found Su Xing House on Yelp. It didn’t disappoint. They sat us a window table, just above street level. The lighting was just right! Very little noise and our waitress was very attentive. And by the way, the food was delicious. We highly recommend.
Other than the mushroom soup which we enjoyed, perhaps the worst meal we’ve ever eaten. To be fair we didn’t realize it was vegan. We love vegetables so we thought it would be ok, but nothing tasted fresh or flavorful. The staff was kind but forgot several items we ordered. The fried bananas we’re heavily breaded bananas (not plantains), the dumplings and lo mein had no flavor. The fake fish was some soy product shaped like a fish. Weird in looks and flavor. The mushroom strips tasted like fried bread. The broccoli that came with it had no seasoning at all. We don’t recommend it.
