Su Xing House
Amazing Chinese food, really enjoyed by the vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The highlight was the Peking Duck, you must order it. Everyone loved the General Tso's tofu and the five spice mushrooms as well. The green beans were crisp and tasty.
Huge menu with great variety. Service very slow the night we dined.
Perfect for vegans. 99 percent of selections are vegan. Even our non-vegan son enjoyed the pancakes and fried rice.
Su Xing House was a great place to take my wife for Mother's Day. We chose it because they focus on vegetarian and vegan options. From the start, with promptly refilled jasmine tea piping hot, to the end of the meal, our server (I am not good on names, I believe it was Margie) and her assistants were attentive, cheerful, and helpful. I am on a cardiac healthy, Dr Esselstyn diet, vegan with no oil or nuts, and I asked what would fit my diet. The suggested choices, Three Mushroom soup and Assorted Vegetables Chen-Tu Style met my needs and were delicious, cooked just right, and portions were generous. My wife's Teriyaki Steak (soy) had great flavor and texture. The atmosphere was relaxed and cordial. We will be back, and we recommend you visit soon. It has limited seating, so make a reservation. Open Table worked very smoothly.
The food is consistently excellent and the service is equally good.
Great ambiance, great food. Customer service was a little slow with water, but overall great time.
This Chinese vegetarian/vegan restaurant hit all the high notes. The dining room was quiet, the food superb, and the service well paced. The mapo tofu was especially flavorful, the long noodle & tofu dish delicious, and the tofu skin with mushrooms was a special treat. Truly a wonderful and delicious meal!
Was very excited finding this vegetarian place.
Waiter made us all anxious at the table.
He seemed clueless, was not helpful when responding to questions about the menu.
He brought our food to the table before clearing off the many appetizer dishes still on the table - -
and left to bring more entrees without taking them again. I put them into his hand.
Simply not a relaxing or enjoyable meal. Will probably not go back.
My wife and I were in Philadelphia for a two day get away. Found Su Xing House on Yelp. It didn’t disappoint. They sat us a window table, just above street level. The lighting was just right! Very little noise and our waitress was very attentive. And by the way, the food was delicious. We highly recommend.
Other than the mushroom soup which we enjoyed, perhaps the worst meal we’ve ever eaten. To be fair we didn’t realize it was vegan. We love vegetables so we thought it would be ok, but nothing tasted fresh or flavorful. The staff was kind but forgot several items we ordered. The fried bananas we’re heavily breaded bananas (not plantains), the dumplings and lo mein had no flavor. The fake fish was some soy product shaped like a fish. Weird in looks and flavor. The mushroom strips tasted like fried bread. The broccoli that came with it had no seasoning at all. We don’t recommend it.
I love this restaurant in general, but this particular visit I made a reservation and got exactly what I asked for: a booth by the window with privacy. The waiter was great and the food was out of this world. The price is also awesome. I’ll definitely be back!!
Great vegan and vegetarian food, extremely friendly and attentive waitstaff! We were pleased with the variety of choices. There are some weird translations of some dishes, so you get things like "shredded protein" or "glutinous" etc., but that just adds to the charm of the place. I ordered a spicy dish and it wasn't spicy at all, which was disappointing, plus a side dish of cucumbers were very tough with thick skin, so that's why they're only getting 4 stars, but other food that came to the table was amazing. I will eat there again! (And again... and again...)
I took my wife to SU for her birthday, It was something she has been wanting to try out since we LOVE chinese food but recently have started a pescatarian lifestyle. Needless to see the food was AMAZING! The General Tso's dish will have me returning very shortly. I enjoyed the Jasmine Tea refills during the night!
Food was good. Felt a bit rushed at the end. Place was very busy
Food was delicious!
I visited Su Xing with my parents before a show. We live in NJ and made the drive down specifically to go to this restaurant because we heard good things. It was 100% worth the effort of going out of our way! The food was SO good. I've been a vegetarian for 10+ years and my mom has been a vegan for 5, and it's such a fun experience to go to a restaurant and be able to pick anything off the menu. The ambience in the restaurant was also very special -- super cozy, warm, and inviting, with lovely string lights at the windows. I will definitely being visiting again and bringing friends!
Su Xing was not prepared for so many dinner guests. They were out of several of the dishes. They kept coming to us, at different times, to tell us what they were out of. The entrees took an hour and a half to get to us. The appetizers were there earlier. Some of the food was cold, such as my tofu seaweed soup. I feel ripped off because we gave them a standard tip, and it was a very sub par experience. This happened another time when there was a party. I won't go back there for a long time!!!
Wonderful vegetarian dinner for 10 in our own nicely decorated small room. All were pleased.
Typically, I am a big fan of the Su Xing House, but this past weekend I had the first really negative experience there that I have ever had. While we were at the restaurant, on what was clearly a busy Saturday evening, the restaurant's order taking system crashed, and they lost many of the table's orders. Rather than apologizing and retaking orders by hand, they made the decision to try to recreate the orders from memory. Our food came out more than 1 hour after it was ordered. Many tables that arrived after us were served before us. Some diner's dinners never arrived, and they left. The wait staff were (quite reasonably) frazzled during this process, but also did not take actions to make things easier. We experienced rudeness, and also had difficulty with requests like asking for our water glasses to be refilled.
I imagine that this was a fluke, and will likely return to Si Xing House in the future, but the experience did leave me sour.
Good food, nice staff, lots of options. Like that tea is served automatically and that they consistently offered to refill. Will return!
We've been to Su Xing Restaurant several times. The food is always excellent and the ambiance is always perfect.
unusual dishes but served well and tasty once you got used to the difference in textures....good sauces
Excellent veggie Chinese. Has become our favourite!
The food was surprisingly good. My friend is vegetarian and we planned a surprise party for her here. Everything our party of 13 ordered was delicious, the service was good, and the portions were great for the price that we paid. I would highly recommend this place
This is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia - everything on the menu is vegetarian or vegan and there's a huge menu! The staff are also super nice.
They didn't have our table ready at the reservation time and they were not communicative about it. They finally put an added an extra table to our seating arrangement to accommodate the group. The wait for service and food was excessive. We had a 5:30 reservation and we finished eating at 8:00. They seemed understaffed.
Excellent pick! We didn't realize from Open Table that this was a Vegetarian menu, but everything was excellent!
Great meal! Mix of vegans and meat-eaters and everyone enjoyed their meal. Great value too.
The food was delicious. It came witu tea. We ordered the tomato egg drop soup and the waiter split the giant bowl into two. We ordered steamed dumplings, then for the main course ordered general tso's tofu and mooshu with pancakes. Great meal!
Dishes are expensive and not very large. Better options at New Harmony Restuarant.
Excellent service and quiet atmosphere. Great for conversation.
Su Xing House is a WONDERFUL vegetarian Chinese food restaurant. I have eaten there many times for lunch. My wife and I went there the other night before the going to the orchestra. It was very magical.
The food is always superb and the service is always excellent. A great place to dine with a group, or even alone.
I teach a course about food at Penn and took 8 of my students here for dinner on Sunday. Some of them had never even tried tofu, much less seitan or tempeh. We were stunned at how good the food here is -- even the carnivores said they weren't missing the meat! We particularly liked the General Tso's seitan, the scallion pancakes, and the vegetarian scallops. But almost everything was excellent, and the place itself is cozy and friendly. Plus it's BYOB (although with undergrads I couldn't bring any wine this time around...). The lunch menu also looks great (and affordable!). Highly recommended!
We waited an hour for our appetizers, our main course was not that great and the dessert was terrible. Between the wait and bad food, we do not recommend on Saturday nights. Good for lunch specials...
We love the food at Su Xing - everything we have eaten is delicious. The hostesses/ waiters and all so pleasant. They always make us feel special!
A gem with a broad menu of vegetarian options. We went with friends, vegetarians from the midwest, who had never seen so many choices -- it was fun to see their faces when they realized they could eat everything on the menu! All the food was fresh-tasting and the plates were well presented, not overly fancy but served with care. Our only problem was ordering too much and finding room on the table for all of it.
The food was simple and tasty, and the service was snappy - which is my usual experience here. My friend liked it, too.
I've always liked this place. The Chinese vegetarian food has been consistently good, the service is usually snappy and the prices are amazingly low for Center City. Not much more need be said.
