5th time visiting. Wine maker’s dinner this time- fantastic pairings! Combined with the wine- the 7 course meal was absolutely outstanding! Worth every penny!
Absolutely a great place to dine. Great staff. Love the food and just the overall atmosphere. Thank you!!!
Studio One is a very comfy place to see a movie! The facilities are modern and the decorated "screen rooms" are both elegant and comfy. Everything was overpriced, however. The mixed drinks were about double normal bar costs.
We arrived over an hour ahead of our film's start time to have dinner in the restaurant. It took nearly a half hour to order, and an additional 20 minutes to be served, so we barely made our film's start time. Both of our dishes were underdressed and my wife's pasta was cold when delivered. It was supposed to include 'spring vegetables' in the pasta, but that was simply a few slices of summer squash. My short rib ragout was supposed to be dressed with some veggies, but was just meat, pasta, and tomato sauce. The portions would have been decent sized for the price, if the meals were complete. We had Brussels sprouts with dinner and they were fantastic.
Before the film started, wait service came to our seats and we ordered drinks and dessert. The drinks arrived promptly, but dessert didn't arrive until an hour into the movie. We'd thought they'd forgotten about it and then it appeared.
Overall - I would recommend seeing a film here but, like Cinetopia before it, the food isn't worth it. Eat beforehand and get a better meal for less, or a decadent meal at the same cost somewhere else.
The live music was so fun - really enjoyed Mike & Ben’s style & musicianship! Hope to come see them again! The brussel spouts & eggplant dishes were yummy!
Puerto Rican music added an energetic vibe to this modern restaurant sharing space with a luxury movie theater. We were there for music and food and were not disappointed. The beef ragout is fabulous. Great range of wines.
Michael (our server) was fantastic!! He made sure we were very well taken care of ..
Jason was soooo great in helping me book the tickets for a most perfect evening.
We had a fabulous experience at Studio One Live. The food was outstanding and the live entertainment was amazing. The theaters themselves create a wonderful ambiance for viewing a film. We will definitely be back!!
Experience was better than anticipated. Michael, our server, was great and very knowledgeable Food amazing. The flavors were great. Live music was a nice bonus.
One thing though, my last name is Starks. Email came back with former last name. Please change. Thank you.
Looking forward to next time.
Great service, Great Food and Amazing Cuban Band! Loved the whole experience.
Met friends for dinner & listen to live jazz. Moët & Chandon special event was going on as well. Incredible new champagne from them! We had the Ono fish special (shipped in fresh from Hawaii & paired with Frank Family Chardonnay. Awesome dish! Great night!!
We came to Studio One just for dinner, as they had a live jazz band in the dining room. The service was great, the sound in the room was awesome. The stage has a four projector setup for the walls behind the band, which kicked the ambiance up a notch. I had to leave to use the restroom at one point, but they had the sound piped out to the hallways and restrooms so I didn't miss anything! ❤️ Aaaand, the final kicker, they had two ✌️ legitimate vegan entrees. The dish I had was incredible. My husband said his short rib pasta was equally as perfect. Five stars! We'll be keeping an eye on the live music coming through here, and will definitely check out a movie at some point as well.
Were were in for an early dinner, three of us. No one to greet us and getting seated was a little awkward.
Food was good and server was very nice.
Movie experience best ever and the herb popcorn is excellent.
Service spectacular, food portions adequate and delicious. Live musicians providing beautiful background music.
LOVED this new theater!!!! They’ve outdone Cinetopia and I thought that couldn’t be done. Customer service was above and beyond.... gourmet popcorn is my new favorite!
Very expensive for only decent food. Some chairs in theater were horribly uncomfortable.
This place is fabulous! I can’t express my appreciation enough for the service and hospitality of the staff. We were their for lunch only, but will definitely be back to take in a movie as well as partake in the fabulous food once again. Thank you for being a unique find in the neighborhood!
It's a amazing place. I wouldn't want to see a movie anywhere else. Awesome date night for dinner drinks and a movie.
They have a great thing going. Only thing that would help would be to speed things up a bit. Service tends on the slow side.
We didn't know that Studio One was principally a movie theater not a restaurant. Our group of four was the only table. The waiter was wonderful, the food was really good, and we had a great time.
Food was amazing. Fabulously attentive service. Checked on us multiple times. Wonderful ambiance, between the live music performance to the fresh flowers all over to the comfy sofas.
Beautiful place and very unique theme. This is definitely a must visit place.
I thought the food was good but overpriced for what it was. The live music was FANTASTIC!!!
The food continues to amaze! We both ordered one of the specials and it was out of this world! The presentation is eyegasmic
This has become our favorite night out entertainment spot. Amazing, engaging decor and ambience. Clearly, they went all out to create a welcoming, stunning, and fun atmosphere combining a very comfortable, cutting edge sound and picture movie going experience with excellent high end dining and live music on weekends performed by top notch musicians in an intimate setting. The wine list is very impressive too. One of the best in the Portland area. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Crunchy and flavorful with a sweet soy glaze. Generous portion we couldn’t finish it. Delicious Caesar salad too. Went with our server’s recommendation for our entree. Freshest halibut we’ve had outside of Alaska in spring. They have a new innovative chef and his preparation of the halibut was outstanding. Pan seared with a garbanzo bean salad surrounded by a luscious roasted red pepper and Marconi almond Romesco sauce. This sauce was perfect enhancement to the perfectly cooked halibut. You can order anything from menu in the incredibly designed theaters. Will try that next time. Sure beats popcorn or candy but they have that too. Popcorn with real butter and a few different all natural flavors. Service was excellent too. Very friendly, courteous, responsive, and knowledgeable wait staff and bartenders. Plan to return here many more times in the future. Want to experience each of the distinctive , highly stylized penthouse theaters.
A local gem. Great food, the chef is to be complimented.
Thank you Studio One Live. What a tremendous atmosphere, tasty-food selection and service! For such a new restaurant, you nailed it! Cannot wait to take in a movie and meal next time. Highly recommended!
We did not see a movie there, but went for dinner and a live show. The band was great, we really enjoyed their music and their interaction with the crowd. It was mellow and fun, still easy to carry on a conversation with my dinner partner.
The food was very very good, best halibut my partner has ever eaten! The drinks were good too. Service was a little slow, but that is my only complaint. Enjoyed the ambience and décor, too.
Also, the live stage backdrop should be a little dimmer and more cohesive over all, as it can clash against what the performers are wearing.
Looking forward to going back to try a movie, and will definitely return for food and a live performance, too.
This is a dream come true... a unique and delightful experience whether seeing a movie or just dining out. I highly recommend StudioOne. It is certainly the most comfortable way to see a movie, the “penthouse” theatres surpass any other theatre that of this ilk. One night, I had dinner only in the restaurant area. An awesome combo was playing very old standards... the whole evening was totally enjoyable. Great movies, comfort, great food, amazing service... and that superb menu is avail to order at your theatre seat. Would be the perfect “date night” venue.
Had a wonderful time, great service, excellent food and drinks. Beautiful space, great music playing live when we were there. I guess the music is mostly weekends, but totally worth checking out. Got a tour of the theaters, which are amazing. Like nothing I've ever seen before. We'll be back
Place was awesome. Chicken was a little overcooked. But that's it. It's a great place
We brought some friends to enjoy the experience with us. The entire experience was unique and entertaining. Food was incredible, and the living room theatre was great. Can't wait to join the fun again.
We went to catch up with friends for dinner & drinks. Cheese plate was fantastic as was our meal! We had 3 awesome wines by the bottle- truly one of the best lists in Portland (selection & value). Continue to love the ambiance here! We ate at the bar- service was stellar!
What a delightful evening! The food was delicious!! The wait staff is friendly and skilled. Definitely return with friends!
Bearing in mind this is a new place and prone to hiccups (see other reviews), I had moderate expectations. The place has a little bit of an identity problem as there are apparently multiple (small?) movie rooms in addition to the bar and restaurant. We were there just for dinner, perhaps a movie is a better way to try them out.
Initially we were greeted, and handed off to a hostess who seated us a handed out multiple menus. Water was brought round, and then we waited. A talented Puerto Rican trio played on stage and around us people sat sipping drinks and talking in a one third to half full dining room. 5 minutes go by; 10 minutes go by; 15 minutes go by; 20 minutes...one of us can see the front of house and intently tries to get the attention of the hostess or anyone else with no success. It was raining and we had taken Lyft so we couldn't walk out without a plan. Seconds before we stood up to go, a server with water came by and asked if we had been helped.
He was polite and apologetic, we were willing to give redemption a chance. We ordered a grilled romaine ceasar and cheese puffs to start, both delicious. The salad is huge...share it. Actually, everything we ordered save the bread had large portions. The kitchen has clear talent and presentations were very nice but some dialing it in is needed. The generous fried chicken was moist inside and very crunchy out, but lacked flavor. The biscuit was an excellent base for the vertical chicken presentation but too firm to be enjoyable. The pizza showed up nearly 10 minutes after the chicken and far too large for one person. Tasty but delicate crust became soggy from the toppings and hard to eat.
On the whole, more attention to flavor profiles is recommended. There is potential here, I hope they get the opening jitters worked out.
If it were my neighborhood, we might be tempted to try again later, but there are enough other options out there that I don't see that happening.
Just an amazing entertainment spot. Comfortable high tech theaters that transport to luxurious settings around the globe, live music, and top notch restaurant. The salmon is to die for. Freshest salmon I’ve had that I haven’t caught myself. Prepared to perfection. Cranberry and walnuts add great flavors and textures. The pizza is the best in Portland. Homemade sourdough dough with blend of cheeses and range of toppings to choose from. We had the veggie with artichokes, peppers etc. The wonderful meal topped off with excellent wine. They have extensive list of wines by the glass. Highly recommended for an evening out.
We made a reservation for dinner and were seated by the door. There is a lot of space in the dining room, but tables were very close together. Would have preferred a bit more space. Service was okay; the waiter was not overly friendly and was not attentive. There is a bit of a wait for the food (which is okay). The Brussels sprouts were excellent, flavorful, crunchy and soft. Thoroughly enjoyed. The salmon was very bland, and the serving size was very small for $24. While I do not expect a massive serving, for a restaurant on 39th and Powell, I expected more than 3 ounces of salmon for $24.
--> wine selection
--> couches in the theater
--> vibe - cute and relaxed. I will return to go to the bar.
-->service needs to be improved, but in my experience, the poor service (dour servers, lack of attentiveness, etc.) are a Portland-wide issue, not constrained to Studio One Live
-->no labels on the seats in the theater - I knew i was in row A, but could not see which seat was mine... resulted in an awkward "you're in the wrong seat" moment with a server AFTER the movie started....
--> if you're going to offer a higher-end dining experience, make the tables more comfortable, don't seat patrons by the door, and improve the service.
--> website to buy tickets for movies online needs to be improved. Too many buttons to press, UI is poorly thought out.. only one "digital" box office (read: big ipad) in the building to buy tickets after you arrive.
The atmosphere was fantastic and the servers are very professional. The service was prompt and the food was well above my expectations.
Newly opened the restaurant area was still in transition but the staff & meal more than made up for the dining space. The fried chicken was delicious.
Went for an awesome Super Bowl party! Watched in NY penthouse on their largest screen- incredible watching like that on a massive crystal clear screen! Food was fantastic of course. Service in the theater & the bar was on point as always. Love this place!!
We had a fun evening at Studio One. We were a group of four (two couples). Which was a little problematic in terms of seating. I tried to get seating for one movie, but the only seats available were for 3 and I was not able to reserve the seats for 2 people. So we choose a different movie to get two seats of two next to each other. I made reservations for the dining room for after the movie. The food was really good and we wanted to enjoy it with the movie, but it would have been too difficult to eat duck confit and pasta on one of the sofas. The seating was comfortable but we had to set our beers on the floor because we had no flat surfaces available to us. Our friends had to hold their beers the entire time, because their seats did not have table access or even easy floor access. The popcorn was really good. The ambiance was great. The service was a little off. It was our first time there and we were not sure how things operated. It would have helped if we had been greeted or if there was a sign indicating where to wait for service. We had to wait awhile before our order was taken in the theater, but our drinks and popcorn arrived quickly. After the movie we stood for quite awhile at what we believed to be the host stand, but were ignored by all employees. Eventually, I flagged down a bartender to ask what we needed to do to get seated. But once seated, we enjoyed our meals. We like what they are doing and we will definitely go back, I am sure that these minor kinks will get worked out.
