Studio at Montage Laguna Beach Ratings and Reviews
Thinking about my experience over the last 24 hours I would like someone to reach out to me so I can express my concerns. Please note that this is coming from somebody who does not complain and moves on. I’m also in the service industry as a business owner. In this case it was all about first glance and one chance. Having a reservation and waiting for ourtable over 45 minutes later than my reservation then waiting for a wine menu and a first glass of wine and chasing down the menu for the entire night, no this is a horrific experience. I told the hostess, manager and waiter that they just weren’t getting it. Very disappointed.
Food was excellent and service was impeccable. We got to the resort 30 minutes earlier and enjoyed beautiful sunset before heading to the restaurant. We had excellent window seating so we could continue to enjoy the remaining sunset colors. The menu choices were just right, not too little, not too much. They had an excellent vegetarian 6 course meal my wife absolutely loved. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a romantic date.
I booked a table for two for my boyfriends' birthday and i called in advance and asked for impeccable service (as expected from a fine dining restaurant). I have to say the ambiance and the view is breathtaking. Service, i wasn't too pleased with my server she addressed my bf as me and looked at me and said happy birthday. She was trying to be friendly but she made it awkward for us and i didn't find the introduction amusing and felt a little insulted that she would address us that way and then i said:"this is my bf it's his birthday and not me' then she continued the joke to say :'oh yes, everyone here knows it's your birthday" this upset me because i had pre-ordered for a birthday cake and i didn't want her to spoil it. Also, we told her that we are hungry and the food took too long to come out. Also, we had to ask her for the bread and butter. I was a GM for a French fine dining restaurant in Dubai and i know all about how important it is to give excellent customer service because it is not about eating and leaving, it's an experience and you pay top $ for excellent service and quality food. I think the staff needs more training to improve on what is already a spectacular concept.
The food was just ok and given that the prices were outrageous, it was a letdown.
I picked a bottle of wine from the menu (I believe it was around $350). When I ordered it from the Sommelier, he talked me out of it and suggested another wine. I should have asked the price but he kept saying “in that price point”. When the bill came, I saw it was $550! And honestly...i didn’t even care for it.
Absolutely the most incredible meal I've ever had with the most impeccable service I've ever experienced and I'm from NY! This is a restaurant for food & wine connoisseurs! Although to share this experience with our young adult children will forever be our most cherished Christmas meal together. Oh and the views are stunning.
Every restauranteur owner would do themselves well to dine at Studio at Montage. It’s a marketing study in excellence to be experienced and learned from.
Over the years, each visit has exceeded the prior. The gourmet delicacies depicted in the photos tasted as good as it looks. Pricey, but if you’ve never experienced Wagyu beef it’s a must, but note it’s $45 per oz, 3 oz min.
Was at Studio on Saturday, just weeks before Christmas and all the decorations at Montage made for an extra enchanting romantic evening.
This is a 5-Star resturant which hasn’t lost its magic since it’s 2003 debut
Modern French cuisine with California influences
The food and service were wonderful. We were disappointed with the solemner. Three of the wines we tried to order from the wine list were not available. When asked for other recommendations, he offered wines that cost three times what we had inquired. Rather than asking what we were seeking, he seemed more motivated to sell us higher priced wines. He also copped attitude when we did not take his higher priced recommendations. Note: our “wine budget” was $200. It’s really too bad that he spoiled an otherwise wonderful dinner. We ended up picking a rather banal wine wine that you can buy at the grocery store for $40 bucks.
Superb food and service, but they totally disregarded my request for a table by the window in the premier section as we were celebrarta special day. We were shuttled to the corner looking away from the view and we were the only people in the room. Yet there were plenty of tables in the nicer section.
There's a reason a restaurant this expensive doesn't have a Michelin star. Like eating on a cruise ship or at a mediocre wedding except you are paying for an expensive dinner. Service is good, setting is nice, food is average. Not sure that makes sense at this price (or even 50% of it honestly)
This was our first visit. It was important for my wife (for me, not so much) that we really WOW our guests, and this really did the trick. From the valet, to the escorts, the delightful bartender and the staff taking care of us at our table, a wonderful assembling of very polite, competent, charming young people. The food was superb and the ride back to the lobby with Cameron piloting was very cool. We will return!
Unfortunately, since the hotel was sold a few years ago, the food has changed at both restaurants. The chef obviously goes through a lot of work to create unique dishes but they don't taste fabulous like they did a few years ago. The prices are extremely high for what you get now. They were high a few years ago but it was soooo good back then and the view is spectacular that it was special going to Studio. It's not worth it anymore. Of course the view is still amazing but we are not impressed with the food. We will not be going there for dinner for special occasions in the future.
Probably one of the top three restaurants in Orange County. We have also dined at Mina's place down the street (Stonehill Tavern) but I keep preferring the Studio. The views alone, perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific is in of itself outstanding. NB There is a bar in the restaurant which is a great place for a sunset cocktail, if you don't want to pay in excess of $100 /head for a meal.
But the main attraction is the menu and the wine cellar. There are no less than three sommeliers who service the guests (not always working the same time). The menu is 'seasonal', meaning October is truffle time, and there are many other choices.
Lovely service by knowledgeable staff complements the evening.
