Here in Miami for a business conference with one night out! It was an excellent choice! We decided to try the chefs tasting menu and it did not disappoint! The food was fantastic and each bite had tremendous punch. Allow for plenty of time if you decide to do the chefs tasting, we were there for three hours.
Really want this restaurant to be very successful but it currently has a few key shortcomings. Pointing them out here in the hopes they take heed. First the good: the food that we had was very good and the service was warm, attentive and friendly. However, we are two vegetarians and their flexibility in accommodating what is now a reasonably common dietary choice was really pathetic for a restaurant that aspires to a high caliber. Most high end restaurants are very happy to be flexible to make sure their guests are treated to a nice evening instead of made to feel like an afterthought. Sadly, think the chef is talented enough that he could very well make veggie entrees that deserve to go on the menu if he wanted to. And felt like his front of house personnel who are gracious and competent would really appreciate it too. However, you get the unfortunate feeling that his restaurant is more eponymous than it may first appear. Other drawbacks: the music is really too loud and seemed out of place with the refinement of the food. Still, we had a nice evening since we persisted and we appreciated the servers who were gracious in attempting to strike a balance.
Food was excellent but the attitude varies between arrogant (the maitre d) and the waiter trying to upsell non stop. The decor is plain, uninspired. Also, portions small. It was my friend's birthday. I told the maitre d and what did he bring? A candle for the table. Cheap.
Had an amazing meal with a great waiter
Appetizers are creative and wonderful
Cobia and lavash were stand out savory dishes, and the desserts were outstanding, try the corn pavlova and snickerdoodle cookies.
Amazing place. Pricey but worth it if you're a food fanatic.
Big disappointment because of the service. The food was as excellent as expected, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere, but our waiter seemed distracted/uninterested, and our five courses came out within an hour so we had no time to linger and enjoy (the waiter told us the dishes would come out as they were finished, but there weren’t many other customers and this isn’t a tapas restaurant, so pacing should have been manageable). And this is a fairly minor point, but when we made the reservation we noted that we were celebrating our anniversary, but this was not acknowledged at all. Maybe it doesn’t matter because we aren’t Miami locals, but we wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to our foodie friends if they were in the area because of the poor service, no matter how good the food was.
Best dinner we had while visiting Miami. Absolutely Delicious!
Food was absolutely amazing ! Service was not the best ...
Great culinary experience.
Food was excellent! Pacing was off, but wait staff were very friendly so it made up for it. Highly recommend!
Great great food but the service was a bit spotty. Maybe it was just off season malaise - but Ford’s food execution was spot on.
Food was amazing... exquisite!!!!
Service was great
We truly enjoyed our Date Night at the Stubborn Seed! From the crafty cocktails to the amazing food! We had the Smoked Foie Gras and the Simple Greens, both very good.
Then my husband had the Fragant Spiced Lamb and I had the Organic Chicken, again both plates were amazing! We both shared the Pavlova with corn gelato wich was very creative and delicious!!
We are definitely coming back!
Amazing Food! Great Service. Definetely a place to go back to.
The kitchen and staff never fail to provide an exceptional experience. Have been here a handful of times and although the menu doesn't change in any substantial way- every time has been spectacular.
Best restaurant in Miami. It was amazing. Hope to be back very soon
We went here for Miami Spice because of all of the hype surrounding Chef Ford's place. The warm celery root was an incredible mix of flavors and texture. I have not had better chicken than the organic chicken at Stubborn Seed! The snickerdoodle cookies with malted ice cream were spectacular. I cannot think of a better way to end the meal. The dessert chef should be recognized here too! This was one of the few dining experiences in Miami that has gone above and beyond what I could imagine food could be. It was delicious. Some extra attention should be given to the cocktails though. They were muted in flavor and had very little alcohol. We tried the sour and the old fashioned.
Amazing meal and service. The desserts were my favorite
Absolutely amazing in every way!! The food was spectacular, presentation was even better and surprisingly the deserts we're the best of wall. Service - on point!!
1 night in Miami and we ate at Stubborn Seed. We had the tasting menu. The menu was solid, but there were a couple of dishes which were truly memorable and magical!
Right now, this the freshest, most innovative — but unpretentious — kitchen in Miami. Amazingly creative combinations. My favorites: house salad, pastrami/Reuben/fois gras, the best chicken breast in a wine juice and mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. Fish is food and so are deserts. Wine list is good. Go there. You’ll be glad you did.
Bedt food in Miami, great chef but they must work in the acoustics, it’s way too noisy
Excellent Miami Spice menu. Was able to try everything between our group and we got oysters as well which were excellent. The chicken was very tender and perfectly seasoned but the Snickerdoodle cookies were the winner
Great food. Kitchen needs to reorganize how it delivers food to the table. They have a crazy system and luckily we were forewarned and over ordered. Food is fantastic
Great creative cuisine with and cocktails to match. Good for sharing. Our server was really sweet and was as so kind as to buy our second round of wine without even realizing it was my wife’s birthday.
We tried the Miami Spice menu and everything we had were excellent! One of best meals we had in Miami! Excellent service and attention to details! Snickerdoodle cookies and whiskey cake 👍🏻 We will definitely be back for the tasting menu.
Jeremy and his team prove that they are the "rock stars" of the miami food scene........well done
The food was prepared well but the lobster dish, the chicken and the lamb did not have a lot of flavor. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks. The portion sizes are way too small for the prices. The foie gras and the bread rolls and the oysters were delicious.
This was our second visit to Stubborn Seed. Both visits were fantastic. This time, we chose the Miami Spice menu. We ordered the Simple Greens with aged parmesan, scattered hens & Meyer lemon, the Warm Celery Root, Crusted Halibut, Organic Chicken & for dessert we had Dallas Wynne's Whiskey Cake and the Snickerdoodle Cookie. Everyone of these items was outstanding & delicious!!! The service also was as good as it gets.
Amazing food! And the cocktails are great too. I highly recommend brunch. Their cauliflower with sunny side up eggs is delicious. I also recommend their pasta dish during dinner. It changes from time to time, but is always great.
I wrote up our experience (SAD/BAD) on FB then thought I should see what others are saying on YELP. Stubborn Seed was HIGHLY recommended by foodie friends ..and Open Table ranks it as #2!.. but the critical reviews ALL said the same, they even used similar phrasing as I did. The KITCHEN is incredible, but the dining is spoiled by every possible problem from FRONT OF HOUSE. Your staff do not match the energy and passion of the Kitchen.. and create a failed dining experience, because the front of house do not care.. not one whit. AND you have been told this from as long ago as one year past. Here are two phrases from YELP: "Will definitely NOT be coming back." X 6
and from 11/15/2017
...."Replace your front of house staff immediately! They're hurting your business & don't have the maturity to handle your great new enterprise. Male MD & Female Hostess on 11/14 dinner were unwelcoming & cold & very flustered along with making us wait for our table & our drink order."
In our case the waiter could not have been less disinterested. Do you not want people who work for you to be as excited about your food as clearly the creative chef is? Who is the manager maybe they are the ones ruining the experience.. whatever .. ARE YOU LISTENING??
Chicken was amazing
The food was good and the waiter was very knowledgeable. How ever there was some problems in the kitchen. We took the tasting meal and it took too long for the courses to get out.. we waited 20 min between dish to dish.. there was a couple who sent next to us who came before us and took the same menus and while their dishes kept coming out ours didn't... at the end it felt like they wanted to through us a way and while we where still eating already put the silverware for the dessert.. we felt like there was someone waiting for our table and we had to go.. and I am pretty sure we did not get all the dishes we where supposed to get..
We had some issues with the restaurant: it took 20 min to be seated (and we had reservations), and the hostess directed us to the bar which was full-committed, hard to accommodate our party properly.
We decided to have the Miami Spice Menu, and two of the tree coursers we ordered were missing, and that was frustrating because one of them was the "famous" Warm Celery Root. After that the worst part: It took more than 45 min between the appetizer and the entrée course. At that point we were too disappointed and with no appetite. In the end, even the dessert was compromised - The nutella cookie came without the malted ice cream!! They were completely unprepared to handle the high demand, even with most of the guests eating the pre-fixed menu (I work with the same kind of business and I know that it helps the operation - it makes things easily in the end of the day).
The food is amazing, but this experience was really bad. The server was very friendly and did great! The manager was very attentive and we did his best to making up for the issues, and because of that we probably would give a second chance for the restaurant.
Everything excellent, top top notch!!!
Best restaurant we visited during our South Beach stay!
Dinner at the SS was a very nice experience. Superb service and outstanding food! It was an opulent Miami Spice dinner... This is my second time there and always a first class experience.
The only con: very loud custommers...
Best restaurant in Miami!!!!
The food is deliscious while artful and creative
The service is great each time !
Relaxed atmosphere for such elevated food
We went for their Miami Spice Menu.
I really liked the chicken dish, but my wife's halibut had a strong fishy smell which was a little off-putting!
For desert, they only had 2 chooses on the day we went. (although on the Miami spice online menu their were 3 listed.) They had whiskey cake, and snicker doodle cookies. unfortunately, my wife can't stand the smell of whiskey, and she hates cinnamon, which was in the cookies! So she couldn't eat either, and the waiter when asked stated that there was no substitution. (Not even if I paid extra, which I offered to do.) I think if a restaurant has a menu item advertised as available, and it's not, they should bend the rules a little to compensate.
The Miami Spice is a pretty good deal, but I would never go back and pay their regular price.
