   A lovely setting although very quiet nit busy. A good start for Christmas good food and family time. Service excellent.

   It never ceases to amaze me that The Stroom isn't busier than it is. The restaurant is comfortable, the staff friendly and the food is always terrific. We had a function in the Queens room a week or so ago which was attended by 52 people. We had all given our menu choices before the evening (it is convenient for everyone). Our meals were served efficiently and the food was piping hot and delicious. The restaurant was busy and there was a further function in the cellar bar, so on that particular evening it was very busy. On Saturday,l returned with friends to find only 6 other people eating in the restaurant. It is such a shame that an excellent place to eat seems to be overlooked. Prices are reasonable so why not give it a go. I don't think you would be disappointed.

   The Sunday dinner at the stroom is top draw we struggled to find somewhere for a decent dinner but we have been twice now and I would recommend it. We all had the beef sirloin joint which is cooked medium and it is excellent.

   We used to come to this restaurant regularly, and were looking forward to going again. However, we were disappointed that the menu had changed considerably - there were two pages, one of which was a set menu. Choice was much more limited than before. Also, the atmosphere was very flat - to only have 3 tables full on a Saturday night is a bit worrying! The food that we chose was delicious as usual, but we needed more choice. Also, there was a wedding reception in one of the function rooms and the clientele left a lot to be desired - I felt intimidated walking past them to our car, which we then found was blocked in by the owner of the building! We had to go and find him to come and move it so we could leave. All in all, a much-looked forward to night out was a bit of a let down unfortunately.

   We booked early so that we could take up the offer of the early bird menu. Unfortunately three out of four dinners could not find food on the early bird menu to suit. Starter soup, fish, pork main salmon or pork. Not a good choice.

   Very pleased to find the Stroom seems to have found its "mojo". A bit disappointing in recent visits but I am delighted to report that this Sunday it was excellent. The price has gone up slightly, which is good if it means the menu was more extensive and interesting which it was. The started of salmon roulade was lovely and the roast beef was superb. Don't do puddings but there seemed to be a good choice. So pleased its back on track and will definitely be returning. Service was also excellent but we have always found that side of things good.

   The food arrived hot and on hot plates, as always. Extra veg was requested and willingly given and other special requests were no problem for the very helpful and professional waitress. A delightful evening! Thank you to all at The Stroom.

    Superb food : sumptuous butternet squash risotto to start, delightful monkfish and veg to follow and an excellent cheese course. The house red is very good too! Well done Stroom, another first class meal.
